Idea:
Post connection speed requirments for g2k2.
Obviously if your connection isn't very fast it won't be worth paying for. Becouse when you try to kill something you will sit there attacking it and if your lagging or something you won't notice it is actually attacking you back until your dead... Happens to me all the time so don't say it isn't so. Im on a 56k. too slow. And yes I try running up to it attacking it and running away as fast as I can... but I still always end up being attacked once or twice... and yet I don't see the damage I got for a few seconds after im away from the creatures... This would prabably apply to other situations where it's vital for you and the rest of the world to be in sync.... on any server... |
It's kind of common sense don't you think? I mean, you don't ride a bicycle in a motorcycle race...
Just like you don't play graphical online games with huge spells and tons of people, with a dialup. |
Its not your connection speed. Its your GFX card and amount of RAM you have -_-
I have cable, but 7MB of vido card, and only 53MB of RAM. Thats why I lag. |

I have a GeForce3 ti 200 and 512 mb of crucial ddr ram. is that enough? I lag a lot |

What the heck does huge spells have to do with it? it's no worse than swinging a sword or setting a gani. that sort of thing is all clientside. and there aren't exactly ton's of poeope playing. I used to play EverQuest and I never lagged nearly as bad as I do on graal. EQ has thousands of players. |

You would of if you inflated your tires. ;)
And to get back on track here so one of you moderators don't close it (:() If you got a nice GFX Card, you need alot of RAM now. :) And yes, on EQ, you don't lag, yet here you do. Reason? They are a bigger, more organized company of developers with more money. So you can see, they can get it all. |

Yeah that is prabably part of it, they are a big company. But that doesn't change the fact it only takes a byte or 2 of data to initiate a whole chain of clientside events on everybodies machine. Spell slowdown "should" be totally clientside lag. Unless it is super poorly coded... And I already stated I had more than enough ram. |
There should be some sort of requirments as 2002 I doubt is seen as ''High Graphical Online Game'' compared to alot of games which is why people may buy as they think it will work and be lag free when it may turn out it isnt.

Diablo is high quality. And it hardly ever lags.

Mind you there was only two of us racing. :( Anyways it doesn't only go by connection speed. Other factors like RAM, processor speed etc come into it so if your computer sucks cable probally won't help to much. |

Diablo Isn't really massively multiplayer. |
Aw well let people continue to pay for a game they don't realize is way to laggy for them to be playing.

Well I think lag comes from the way graal is coded.... the way I belive it is coded is code added onto code... example: I make a game that you can go around cuttin stuff up (graal) and then I think it would be cool to add in some tasty lights to make it sexier.... what I do is just add some extra code and modify my existing code just a tad bit... in the long run that is going to hurt me because it will take longer to execute certain added on things when it could have been fixed by rewritting some of the base code to incorperate that from the core :) graal I belive is coded by adding extra things to a base code that is still very weak and needs to be rewritten alot of the lag comes from bad code.... a game like this shouldnt lag so much... only time lag would be expected (At least for me) is when loading a level er somethin like that some lag comes from bad vid card/bad connection/bad computer speed these are all factors but work arounds to these problems can be made instead of telling everyone to upgrade their computers |

2) Rewriting the base code is the only real way such a feature could have been added. Programming is pretty open-ended but there are still only so many ways to solve a problem effectively. 3) The actual efficiency of the code has almost no bearing on the kind of problems reported in this thread. 4) The code is far more efficient than I ever expected it to be. I've pushed the Graal engine time and again with my projects and I've been surprised by just how well it has performed. |
then I assume too much my good man
with such a feature the only way to add it wouldnt be to rewrite the base code... maybe make a few modifications to the code but I guess it really dosent matter :) I really dont know what the problems with the code are... or even if there is problems... for all I know.... it could just be that the servers are connected to the internet with shoelace string but the fact is... I really dont know... I was just using examples and offering insight into what the problem could be... btw... Quote:
