setlevel

This is very urgent. We need setlevel back. Classic is destroyed more than I guessed it. No excuse now. We hope to get ready with the NPC Server at Christmas, but until then we need setlevel back.

Loriel 10-20-2002 04:14 AM

setlevel was declared as not supported at the end of 99, Stefan said. You should have got around to use setlevel2 since then, I guess.

Com013 10-20-2002 04:36 AM

Can you read what I wrote? NO EXCUSE! I never read that in newfeatures2001.txt, and I rarely used setlevel either.
I was online for 1 1/2 hours and got like a thousand PMs complaining, asking for help, ...
People are even loosing their heras when they try to trade them to fullhearts.
I can't go online anymore until that's fixed. (Atleast not without getting PM-bombed). Sorry if I sound mad, but I fear I've lost my nerves.
So I really can't need your "it was your fault".

Deep breaths Com.

I'll batch it all from setlevel name to setlevel2 name,playerx,playery;

Only downside is that'll require using the .nw version of the levels.

Com013 10-20-2002 06:58 PM

*Took the deep breath*
Converting the levels to .nw would create other problems.
My solution is to add an emergency message and a report level command. I already uploaded it.
I just hope that no hacker will destroy the server strings now...

Tyhm 10-21-2002 04:43 AM

*shrugs* 'kay. Dun see how. If we batch .graal to .nw in all NPC scripts we should be in good shape. Then add a line to the system that setlevel2s from .graal to .nw to move all the accounts at logon...but however you wanna handle it.

Com013 10-22-2002 01:27 AM

Ok, here are the problems with graal->nw:
  • some scripts are doing stuff like if (strequals(#L,level1.graal)).
  • other are using strings for warps
  • and now the most important: you'd have to download/upload 6000 levels twice. The first time when you want to do the setlevel conversion, the second time when we do the NPC Server conversion. Your way "I convert and upload all the levels I have and you copy your changes over them" doesn't work...when I added playerhouses I deleted the levels from my harddisk...
I fixed 37 levels or so already...

Why the hell did you use setlevel anyway?

Jeff 10-22-2002 04:04 AM

To put it simply, Excalibur:

(1) Many of the scripts predate setlevel2

(2) It was thought that only setlevel was needed, if X and Y were being kept. Now we all know to do setlevel2 level.nw,playerx,playery

zell12 10-22-2002 08:39 AM

is setlevel2 serverside now?

I thought setlevel warped the player to 30x 30y?

It only changed the level, which is why some old scripts could do something like

playerx=32;
playery=32;
setlevel level.graal;

syltburk 11-05-2002 08:53 PM

.graal

???

I have Java Zelda...unfortunatly it crashs after playing it for some minutes. But considering the fact that there's just one very small quest it is not such a problem.
