Problems with Graal - Not Staff related

Something I've been meaning to ask, and well never have gotten a straight answer yet it has been a problem with others as well...

Seemingly you "lag" but yet people seem to think you move faster. Eg. You are moving slow on your screen and normally you'll be faster, but for some reason their are times when you are slower than normal. If anyone else has experienced this problem, just let me know

I didn't experience this until I changed my processor, motherboard and ram....yet sometimes I move so fast, other times it's slower than anything and it's like i'm on 56k or something. Quite weird, and if no one else has experienced such then I guess I'll be doing some tweaking with my machine.

Just thought I'd ask since I experience this and it's hard to even get on the game to move so slow when normally i should be faster than how I move.

This happens to me at times :\

I got cable and I always move slow. But, you guys know how much a pent II processor with like, 6gb or memory and almost or close to no RAM won't be very helpful.

Funny how more people have these problems in spurts...Like it happens then it doesn't

Right now it's not happening...but I know when I stop and play again it'll be slow...x_X

Someone on N-Pulse just asked the same thing

Solutions are to have things running in the background or something...it's weird...maybe having a good computer for graal isn't beneficial...cuz I have an old 233 and I run constantly quick on there but I have lag...yet it's better performance...than what I have now...

I only lag on G2K1 and G2K2. I don't know if I lag for other people though.

if you just got a new computer and oyu are haveing this problem just open windows media player and try to play an more than likley you should go alot faster.

I know you are one of them Soto...I'll try to see if there is a bug or something wrong with this...Because something has to be going on for this to happen

Soto the technician! ^_^ my problems are all solved :) thanks :P

btw I am not sure because you know I had XP on my PIII 700 and I ran pretty fine with that...laggy and such but now running other things to actually not lag....awkward

I have that problem at times and run Win98SE sometimes its Fast (which it should be with a AMD XP1600 cpu) amd sometimes I am slow and get my butt kicked. It is odd , haven't figured it out yet. I agree it may be a background program running , yet I cut the firewall off but leave the antivirus on unless Norton is causing it. Who all uses Norton that has this problem? Please post if you do use Norton.

hmm well..I know that when I played npulse around a year ago, for like a month...I would lag at night with DSL, but during the day I would be fine...Then I got networked...and haven't lagged anywhere at anytime since...

*too lazy to read all replies*
some people seem to misinterpret what exactly lag is...there's a difference between lag and slow downs. if u press alt+4 u would see ur bit rate, its the amt. of information being sent to and from the server (or so i think.) when it hits 0 is when u lag, u will still move ur normal speed but everything and everyone would seem to be frozen and everyone else would see u standing still. evntually it would speed back up and you'll see everything happen like in a split second...sometimes u even get warped on walls if u attempted to go through a door on 0. now.....slowing down, this is where ur PCs processing comes in, u would slow down in areas with alot of light effects, npcs etc...reason being 1) u have a slow processor. 2)a lame video card with no ram. 3)crappy ram in general XD
while u are slowed down on ur screen people would just see u walk slowly on theirs but the walking gani would move normally on theirs cept they would see u take like 5 steps to get to one tile. all transactions of information from the server to the player and vise versa would still take place like normal (sword hits/losing hp etc)

edit: bah! i just read the replies...if running another program works then its probably a very weird bug =/ my theory is that it gets ur ram running since it will be required to run that program at the same time. oh well..thank god i got a good 2ghz processor with 2 gigs of ram XD

--Chris-- 10-09-2002 10:37 AM

forgot to mention, the bit rate depends on ur internet connection XD

Crovax_Dark_Lord 10-09-2002 01:57 PM

I have a good computer with a good graphics card and good ram, but I lag on other peoples screens, its fine for me and I've only lagged to 0 twice so far (one fatal...) is this the same problem, or another?

--Chris-- 10-10-2002 01:20 AM

0 is freeze up XD if ur bit rate is really low then all information transactions like mentioned above would still take place but just at a slow pace, eg: touch a door and it doesn't open til the next 5 secs. some people just say u lag when they get their arse handed to 'em in spars XD so if u got a good pc and a good bit rate (internet connection) then they are talkin total BS. btw, the 1st time u enter a server or a level u would experiance some lag or slow downs considering it would have to load all the npcs etc.
