Concerning the creation of 2k2 roleplaying history.
I contacted Stefan about this same idea, but I have received no response — indeed, he did not bother to even read the second part of the proposal.
I cannot stress enough the importance of a widely accepted and enforced set of roleplaying guidelines and histories. Without them, 2k2 will quickly degenerate into a roleplaying atmosphere no better than 2k1, with players continuing to invent their own set of gods, locations, ages, etc. This makes for a less than desirable roleplaying atmosphere, and leads to confusing, and usually lackluster roleplaying. Obviously, detailed roleplaying guidelines cannot be created until play mechanics are fully understood, but a roleplaying history of the world can be easily and quickly created by any number of players. What I fear is that people will confuse a roleplaying history with an official storyline needed to be incorporated into the game itself. This is not the case. A roleplaying history will simply set the stage for the events to come. It is a guideline at best, something for roleplayers to base their actions, words, and characters off of. It lays out a timeline of events in the islands’ past, of geographical locations, it lays out a list of important deities and historical figures. It is a set of rules and restrictions, binding all players to one story which can be understood equally by all. And while it is not the same as the Roleplaying Guidelines in that is does not lay out clearly a defined set of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors, it will still serve to regulate character development, to prevent players from creating character histories that would contradict that of another. For example, a player could not include in his story that his parents were killed in a war that is not mentioned in the timeline. However, it is important to not fear you will be suffocated by the history’s restrictions. You are, of course, limited, but not completely. Players are free to invent their own minor locations and events, so long as they do not in any way contradict the history created by the players --- while you could not create an entirely new city for your own purposes, no one would protest a woodsman’s shack in the forest burned to the ground by a rogue sorcerer. Common sense should be administered in cases like these, and in instances of ambiguity, it would be up to the roleplaying community to make the final decision. The type of roleplaying history described above would be created by a small council of prominent and accomplished rolepayers, with all drafts posted for the public’s view on the forums, where they would be revised by the entire roleplaying community, and anyone who wishes to put forth an opinion. This is because a document like that described above will function only with the cooperation of the entire roleplaying. It must be embraced, accepted and enforced by all, or it will fail. The final history should be accepted by a majority vote of the roleplaying community. Thoughts? |

*skims through* Agreed. Idiots suck. Lets ban them for not RPing! ;) |

Read it all, guy, it's important. |
I don't think the roleplaying on 2002 should have a council, it would get too complicated.

yes, indeed. the red socks no NOT match the purple cow. |
Hmmm... interesting. I see what you meant in the kingdom's forum...
But what I meant there about a god killing my rp character's parents comes from an entierly different contenent. So wouldn't it be true for someone not aligned with a kingdom who has crash landed on the island chain making up 2k2 to have a different set of beliefs or gods, yet unable to benifit from it? I'm just saying, not everyone is from this region.... although, what you say should be implimented |

so you are saying the cow is making a statement by wearing red sox? |

Hmmm... I guess creating a few hundred gods could become a problem.... but... hrm.... I'll have to work out my character history, which was, by the way, created long before 2k2 was around :(

*tries to read all, still kinda skims through* Enforced roleplaying? yes. Council? Only if i can be on it, i am like THE BEST RPER EVER. BALOR KILLED MY DADDY N I WILL KILL BALOR'S AVATAR, KONIDIAS! >:D |

Oi. You. Yeha you, Aestus. Mytri was never a Goddess. It was Gryffon's preconcevied notion of a way to interpret that power. Mytri was an Avatar of light. Yea, there was a larger more important RP story I was working on developing, but 2k1's death unfortunatly sidetracked that. And besides, Gryffon was a foreigner, so I still fall into the "Religion Coming from a Foreign Land Clause" ;)

I guess that for now we can call the main island snowmountain Mt. Antora, and the water to its approximate northeast can be Silverstun's Sea.
|
Hmm...I don't believe a set of people should make up a history for graal other than stefan and unixmad. Graal2k1 wasn't really made for RPing in the long run, RPing was placed in the middle of it all.
|
But I'd ask you not to Aestus. I mean, your an easy target yourself. You dont see me calling you a mindless zealot blindly following someone. Well...anymore:D

Point taken. |
I've always thought that 2k2 was just a new world discovered by people from 2k1. Explorers set out, and kingdoms alike, to the new world, and as they devoted their efforts to better the new land (2k1) they detiorated in the old world (2k1) until their presence there was non exsistant.
As for foreign gods and worlds, I would personally not have a problem with it, because it leave another dimension out there for people to play with and imagine, but even this would have certain guidelines. |

And personally, I think we should stick to the gods 2k2 already has. No point in creating dozens of new deities when there's already a set of universally accepted ones. |
You are completely correct, and it this state of mind, I have no thoughts of reflection, however, I do not wish to see 2k1 history brought into 2k2, like KawaiiSaria thinking she's automatically queen of Dustari on 2k2 because she's been ever since the starting of Dustari on 2k1, so she should be queen on 2k2...if you want details...here they are:
(This is on a private Kingdom forum for Kings only) Thread Name: ok, so whohas access here that shouldn't? Galen: please make a list ... KawaiiSaRiA: I should have every right to having access here. As I am, and always will be the queen of Dustari. Even though Arwen is supposedly "queen" which dissapointed me a great deal because no one ever informed me or even bothered to discuss this with me. Dustari is still partly mine. And always will be. DragonX: This is 2k2 not 2k1 O_o Kamuii is no longer king, Aftershock is. A lot has changed in the field of roleplaying on 2k2. Things that were once established on 2k1 can be totally different here. You might have Dustari but on 2k1, not on 2k2 unless of course Aftershock says otherwise... Aftershock: We're trying to work something out :( KawaiiSaRiA: (Replying the DragonX) Not really. I am queen on both 2k2 and 2k1. Many people know this. You cannot just kick me out without informing me first. Me and aftershock are working things out I guess. Hiyoshi: I realize how hurt you must be, because a lot of dumb rumors were going around for a while about some random idiot being Emperor of Samurai...anyways, I thought it was stupid, but then again I realized 2k1 and 2k2 are completely different servers, and it doesn't matter if you owned Dustari on 2k1, this is 2k2, and unless aftershock says you are, or Stefan/unix do, you're not :( Er1c: Uhm, Kings were just selected not long ago... You can't be kicked out if you were never chosen to be queen It's Aftershock's decision if you are queen or not. KawaiiSaRiA: Stefan and unixmad already know that I am still queen of Dustari, even on Graal2002. I was from the beggining, when the first test version came out to public. That is exactly what I'm talking about. It's rediculous. |
Let's face it, it's a postapocalyptic 2k1 in which the kingdoms have somehow survived and reorganized. All the technology is gone, all the architecture is gone, the UGL is sealed off. Let's face it, what is the probability of the geographical similarities if they are NOT the same place? Look at the map....Bomy Moon, Silverstun's Sea, Mt. Antora, the southern islands including Survivor Island, the 2k1 Zormite Island, and all the towns are in about the same places....just like a postapocalyptic civilization trying to reorganize itself. It's certainly newmain, but it looks to be a newmain where the bomies went mad, there was a nuclear strike, or somewhat.......

But that's the kind of thing everyone would need to decide on together. |
I believe 2k2 should be pre-2k1 But whos me?

I think the original idea was that the bomy moon crashes on g2k1, bringing evil bomys which rule the island. The moon crash also brings up some magma which forms the new 5 islands where the humans escaped too.
But may be some more roleplaying-related thing should be introduced :D The technology on graal2001 comes from the bomys I think |

The bomy moon collision and a bomy uprising explain everything perfectly. New towns showed up because human society has had to reform itself. It's actually pretty RP-related as is, not everything has to actually be acted out; much can be implied.
So I'd have to say the evil/rebellious bomies and seismic disturbances from the bomy moon are responsible, along with maybe a few years. It's a perfect explanation for why everything is screwed up and why bomies have taken over main island. It all fits, do I have to make war maps and a timeline to show y'all that this is the most logical explanation to adopt? Anyway, in the end it doesn't matter because the 2k2 world is as it is unless Stefan suddenly decides to generate new gmaps...though for RP it's important to have a backstory. |
(Ronith)
Thats what i was thinking. She's evil! If she comes out queen I'll die. |
It makes sense that 2k2 takes place after 2k1.. as the bomy moon is now the go-kart island, which has been covered in grass and stuff.
After the bomies took over and destroyed everything (or however the story goes) Civilization on Graal went back to the basics... thus, no trains, etc. Although I still think go-karts on 2k2 was bad. :( |
Ok, remove the go-karts..... :)
I originally thought 2k2 was pre-2k1, and then when I thought about it (and read a few posts) I realized the geography was more post-2k1, but....... Screw it. You know what I think? I think we should treat 2k2 as a completely new world. A parallel universe, or a legend, or the "real" world where 2k1 is a legend, or something like that. As for RP history, I love the idea. It will let me create a more well-rounded character. Go Aestus! ...but it's too early to really begin doing it yet. For example, my character will likely come out differently depending on whether 2k2 gets muskets and whatever. I don't like the idea of muskets, I would hate to see them, yet there's that cannon near Bomboria and that's the same technology, more or less...... so we don't really even know what we're working with. I think the history should be out before the final 2k2 (not Alpha) goes up, but for that we will need more information from the developers as to what their plans are. Now, finally, let me admit that as an RPer I don't have tremendous loads of experience, like a lot of y'all oldbies do. But if I can help in any way (brainstorming, gfx, or simply writing the history up in an organized and interesting/readable way) let me know. I'm all for it. Stefan, add a forum for RPing, huh? :D |
I think we should set up an IM, or IRC chat dedicated to the topic open to all who wish to venture forth an opinion. This thread alone has made apparent how difficult it's going to be to reach a decision.
|
scratch everything and start over. New names for all the towns and kingdoms. :)
|
Sorry Asuka, but that's not possible unless Stefan is willing to make a new main island gmap as well. Because it's clearly a 2k1 where the bomies finally got pissed and went to knock the Admin House and all other traces of advanced human civilization and technology (somehow, gocarts got reinvented or spared). Even if Stefan said it wasn't, a new overworld would be necessary to debunk it because people would keep speculating and integrating it into RP, so it's safer to just say the bomies went mad and years have passed.
