Wizards Are just TOO weak now

The whole point of being a wizard is gone! Wizards are too easily killed, they don't have powerful spells to hold a lvl 5 warrior away, and wizards have little HP... That's not good.

Everything was balanced out from start, wizards had powerful spells, but a little health. That's how it's supposed to be. Spells is only wizards weapon, And yet now, icestorm for example, is nothing more then rain! With same damage as rain!

I hate people who complained about imbalance, when there was NONE! Wizards are supposed to be very powerful, but weak at same time, now it turns out, wiixardds are weak, and can cast rains, sheeh.

I know I'll probably get flamed, but think for your self, a couple of spells cast on a warrior lvl 5 do NOTHING more then a couple of scratches!

So please return the power to wizards, There are already tons of time given to melee fighters with wizards 'casting time' and then waiting for mana to go up, why the need for make sall spells seem so weak? RETURN THE DAMAGE!

EXACTLY!
Though I must add that the spells were ALWAYS too weak.
An example-2 icestorm spells on this warrior. He just walked right through them and killed me in 2 hits. I didn't even get a chance to run.
After taking 2 icestorms, he still had more then 3/4 of his health!

And now spells are even WEAKER?!
It's not fair, right, not fair for WIZARDS..
A sword obviously owns magic in this because it hits alot AND can be swung repeatedly and fast.

Make wizards actually something you'd WANT to be!

Personally, being an Alchemist with weapons and magic, I have little trouble .. with monsters, that is. When it comes to fighting actual players, I'm dead. Even though I have the ability to use weapons, my character is no fighter, and relies more on magic .. there is no way that my opponent is going to give me the time to charge up a spell to attack with .. one that will either miss (small snowstorm) or do very little damage (icestorm). Something ought be done, somehow, methinks.

Flameuss 08-24-2002 09:13 PM

i think it was more balanced and better the old way :) give the ice spell a 3 second chargeing time that should be good very small chargeing times :) now i can kill a level 6 wizard with my lvl 4 barb easy

Aestus 08-24-2002 09:49 PM

More balanced before? Please. A wizard could wipe out everybody in the level with one icestorm. It doesn't matter that they had low HP, everybody was dead before they got a chance to attack.

Androk2k1 08-24-2002 09:59 PM

Everybody was lvl 1, And when I was Warrior, I never had problem with wizard killing me... I kille dthem first, and that was before whole nurf the wizard nonsense

hahhaa
only if the level was filled with lvl 1 people
otherwise..they'd survive.

Besidees, spells don't effect you now if you are in peaceful mode, so it's only if wizard is fighting someone... And if wizard is fighting warrior, Wizard has no chance!

That is the whole point of this thread .. that wizards don't stand a chance with their magic anymore!

We did not change the damage of spells, only added 5 seconds charging time for some spells which should be ok. There are actually still spells that seem quite powerful (e.g. flaming aura which you get from Balor or so)

Yes, but still, Wizards were bad enough already, you didn't need to weaken them..

See, this is why we wanted spells to be changed in the first place. What a pity, you can only use spells on someone you are actually fighting.... No more PKing?! Awww, what a blasted shame. Wizzy can't PK a non-mage pacifist anymore. :(

If the wizards had RPed instead of PKing all the time, no one would have complained so much about the spells. We would have been like, "Wow! When kingdom wars start we're gonna win with our powerful mages!!!"

Admins 08-25-2002 02:40 AM

Pling iwll be possibly in dungeons and kingdom wars :)

Stefan... I need to talk to you about spells and we need to come up with something more balanced. Before the non-magic casters were complaining about spells being too powerful because they were lower levels than the caster, and the caster was able to fire off about 4 - 7 casts... it was the only way to do damage. But the casting time takes away from all of that... we need some way to pre-charge spells, or some different way to cast (I have some ideas)

Are you complaining that as a level 1 wizard you can't take out a level 5er? You have got to be kidding me. Sure you're weak from the start, but that's why you keep training. A level 5 warrior wasn't able to chop right through you for nothing.

Another thing, Icestorm isnt' the best thing to be using anyways.

Aestus 08-25-2002 05:23 AM

Gah, just recode the Mudlib and incorporate Kaimetsu's magic system already. That's the best system you'll find, period.

Anything else killed me..

That's why I'm a warrior. The warrior is the golden fleece of classes.

I'm level 6, with lots of HP, full armor, 1+ speed, and I deal 15 damage. If a warrior had a reflect spell amulet, and high magic resistance, sorcerers wouldn't stand a chance either way. ;)

I can't say I like the magic system on 2k2 very much. Mainly the way spells are cast, and the spells themselves. The new gani's are fun to look at, but they do barely any damage.

The thing is, even with the new ganis, it's still laggy. Because Stefan has this thing about making the spells enormous. I still think concentrated spell casting would be better. Where the players casts a spell to a certain location, and the spell is fired there, instead of wiping over the entire screen.

screen_name 08-25-2002 10:22 AM

I know what you mean, it kinda makes me mad really.

Now it takes 5-15 seconds before I actually cast the spell, and most times it doesnt even kill it. :(

That SOUNDS nice, but really it would just make Wizards suck EVEN MORE.

Because spells would hit less. A whole lot less.
You might have a better chance of winning the lottery than hitting a human. Unless you're saying it can lock on to and follow..

That is what I'm saying. You target a player, fire the spell, and it hits them. There could be spread spells, and the types on the server now, but I think homing spells would be better.

Oh, well yea.
That would work. :)

I love the way people try to fulfill the emptiness in their life by trying to convince Stefan to talk to them and/or fulfill their own ambitions. It's almost a guarantee that nobody would actually do something without the thought of having their need for power satisfyed.

Androk2k1 08-29-2002 02:10 AM

The hell are you talking about? Did you just wanted to spam, or is that somehow related?

I was commenting on the general posts that follow a post by Stefan. Posts like "Stefan we have to talk." or "Stefan, I really want to talk to you about this!" or "Stefan I have some wonderful ideas!Let's talk!".

Did you ever stop to think that some of these people are trying to improve Graal?
