ZSnes

I just got Zsnes tonight, and I have a question.

How do I get my screen to be less blocky?
05-26-2001 10:58 AM

gah
the blockiness is the best part
it allows you to see all the pixels and get an idea of how they drew it!

EThor 05-26-2001 10:59 AM

Lol. But it makes me nervous :( ;)

activeconvict 05-26-2001 10:59 AM

Just fool around with the options and your screen sizes, once you've messed with various options, you're bound to get a good one. :D

EThor 05-26-2001 11:00 AM

When I finally get the screen size that isn't blocky, it is about the size of a peanut or something :(

greezi 05-26-2001 11:00 AM

i may sound stupid: but what is Zsnes?

EThor 05-26-2001 11:00 AM

I can't find an option that says "Interpolation" or something. That smoothes it out :D

05-26-2001 11:01 AM

Just ignore it. It's not like it's a freaking PS2! :(

G_yoshi 05-26-2001 11:24 AM

if you are using Zsnes for windows.....set the screen option to 640x480 DR FULL.......you will get the interpolation option

activeconvict 05-26-2001 11:30 AM

I see.

kk. I'll try it

activeconvict 05-26-2001 11:37 AM

I like big screen sizes, it makes it better, and less lag. :o

EThor 05-26-2001 11:38 AM

Thanks G_Yoshi! It fixed it!

(The screen size is perfect on mine)

YAY!

G_yoshi 05-26-2001 11:50 AM

*takes a bow* thank you...any emulator questions...just ask :D

640x480 res is the best screen option...i like using 25% scanlines to give it a nice blending effect :)

EThor 05-26-2001 12:16 PM

I'll also try that...

SSmutz 05-26-2001 12:17 PM

bah, no one uses snes9x...

EThor 05-26-2001 12:19 PM

I would use it, but I heard Zsnes would work better with Win2K than Snesx9...so...pretty much self explanitory...

FatherDante 05-26-2001 02:08 PM

scanlines? You must be kidding me.

G_Yoshi's logic is grievously flawed.
Unless your aesthetic tastes are unnatural, scanlines should only be used to resolve graphics problems on slower machines.
If you're playing an SNES game, my advice is to just expect it to be "pixelated." The SNES was a system for a television, and televisions have extremely low resolution- SNES games always run at 320x240 pixels, 256 colors.

However, if you must know...
You have two options to resolve it if you don't like the pixelated look. Edge enhancement and interpolation.
Interpolation fuzzes the game out so it looks more natural. You can achieve the same affect by scratching up your screen such that light will not pass properly through it. :)
Edge enhancement uses a little algorithm to "guess" at higher resolution by drawing diagonals logically. It looks kind of weird, but also kind of neat, and it does the trick

SSmutz 05-26-2001 02:11 PM

Hm, I'm not sure, if Znes has it, but on my Snes9x, theres a a mode called Super Eagle or something like that, and it enlarges the game screen to fit the monitor, then it smooths out the graphics so they dont look pixelated.

G_yoshi 05-26-2001 02:54 PM

well....the scanlines thing is really just for nostalgia.....i think it looks better w/ scanlines.......the eagle thing is a pixel related thing....i forget how it works......but it has something to do with 3 pixles (red,green,blue)........thats about all i remeber....and yes zsnes does support it.......its like interpolation....i think...because certain gfx resolutions can use it when interpolation is not available.

Snes9x's netplay is easy. Just shoose to be the server or the client. If you run server, have the other person connect to your IP. If your the client, connect to the other person's IP.
