XxxxneosoftxxxX 08-12-2002 01:25 AM

maybe he was talking about the new PW, gal whatever. but it's funny how he never even mentioned what he was talking about.

Flamingblaze 08-12-2002 01:27 AM

Sorry, I was on the phone at the time so I wasn't looking much and yes I mean Galbadia the FF8 ripoff

PurgatoryIE 08-12-2002 01:42 AM

Who cares if they ripped a name from the crappiest final fantasy game ever? No one, thats who. And why do I hate final fantasy 8 so much? Because it's too easy, and ruined the game for me.

And I could have easily made up that word by talking jibberish, it's not hard to do that.

The problem my dear psycho, is that is copyright infringment, meaning Squaresoft may be able to sue.

Torankusu 08-12-2002 04:39 AM

Show us these documents, or trademarks.

I don't see how that's possible, considering a majority of the game takes place in Galbadia.

Dean 08-12-2002 04:45 AM

Hmm? I was just assuming but if you so wish I'll find it.

..But I can't seem to get onto squaresofts site right now....:\

I must be getting old, forget things so fast :p

Torankusu 08-12-2002 04:47 AM

It would most likely be under trademarks on information on "any names used in this game are sole property of Squaresoft and Final Fantasy" etc.

I'll check my FF cases. Unfortunately, I have 7,9, and Ten, but not eight.

Graal518 08-12-2002 05:00 AM

It's in the prologue of the FF8 manual thingy:

At the forefront of a rising tide of
violence brought on by Galbadia's war
declaration is a SeeD cadet named
Squall Leonhart. Serious to a fault,
Squall had earned himself the
reputation of being a lone wolf.
A chance encounter with the free-
spirited Rinoa Heartilly, however,
turns his universe upside down.
Having thrived on discipline, Squall
finds Rinoa's carefree attitude
fascinating. Yet there is no time to
ponder these thoughts, for the job of
dealing with the sorceress behind
Galbadia's irrational hostility has
falled to SeeD and Squall.

Dean 08-12-2002 05:20 AM

Thats not exactly what he wanted.

majority take place in galbadia? maybe you mean Gaia

Dean 08-12-2002 05:28 AM

No thats final fantasy 9 you are thinking of.

BeZeRkEr 08-12-2002 05:40 AM

gaia is like earth..
most games refer to the home planet as gaia

Graal518 08-12-2002 05:47 AM

That's because it MEANS Earth, or something like that.
In Greek (Or was it roman?) history, There was Chaos. Then Night layed an egg which floated on chaos for a while. It hatched into Eros which created the earth and stuff... I think. Then Gaia (Mother Nature) and that... other guy were created and stuff. I don't know, it's been a while since I've gone over it.

Jinx 08-12-2002 06:35 AM

In my opinion, if Stefan is charging people money to play graal, he had better make sure there is nothing copyrighted on it, whether that me Graphics, Midi files, or names.

PurgatoryIE 08-12-2002 07:07 AM

Which is why the playerworld administration team is basically an Research Team also, they should know this stuff off the bat, or investigate into the playerworld while it is up.

That's ALSO why it would be nice if stefan would let us handle with the PWs. I don't know why he bother's with us. He puts servers up and takes servers down on his own, he doesn't talk with Nemesis about these things ethier. We can't do anything about Galbadia, we can't stop it from going up.

-Jinx

PurgatoryIE 08-12-2002 07:16 AM

I believe he just thinks your there for reviewing playerworlds, but even you guys don't get to do that (this case is an example.)

What I suggest is simply trying to contact him, talk with him about the guidelines and the limits of the Playerworld Administration and his limits. I understand he is one of the founders of this fine game, but having the need to control everything usually ends in a crash-and-burn situation.

Torankusu 08-12-2002 07:32 AM

our jobs are pointless.
urge to quit rising.

First off all, that's a lot of power to be able to put up and take down Playerworlds. Second, you need access to servers which are located in France :p Your function is to review playerworlds before the go to him. The only problem is that people are jumping the "chain of command" and going right to Stefan. You need to setup some kind of deal with Stefan to prevent people from doing that because it otherwise defeats the purpose of a PWA :/

Flamingblaze 08-13-2002 02:14 AM

I'd just like to say I whole-heartedly agree with the opinions voiced by the Yoshi fellow.

Heh, well, I keep hearing about all these private servers that keep going up. They should consider themselves lucky because I wasn't awarded such a fancy treat. But seriously, The PWA should at least have to at least review any and all playerworlds before they are handed off to Stefan.

My guess is that these people are afraid of bad reviews or don't like people on the PWA team so they deliberately circumvent them to get their way...Stefan also shouldn't be giving in without recieving a review from the PWA first because sooner or later, everyone and their dog will have a private server just because they didn't want to do things properly.

This could also cause problems since some playerworld owners may take advantage of being private and allow only their friends to play there and put up illegal content.

Flamingblaze 08-13-2002 02:40 AM

Heh Gregory ish cool.

Nitkizi 08-13-2002 02:49 AM

I don't think Square would really care about Galbadia being used for a none-profit game, unless they called it like Final Fantasy or something.

Although Stefan do something about Valk. ripping music from Chrono Cross and using it on their server :grrr: :grrr:

Flamingblaze 08-13-2002 03:14 AM

Non profit? How the hell is Graal non profit?

Opps, I meant that the server Galbadia itself is non-profit.

ZanderX 08-13-2002 05:28 AM

The name is perfectly legal unless you find something on Square's website or in FF8 that says "Galbadia (copyright symbol)".

No, the servers don't make money, but Graal does. While the server's are non-profit, you still have to pay to log on to them.

Technically, anything in that game is their property whether it be names or places, it's their idea which is usually protected by laws. If Graal did not cost money, then sure, it would probably be okay to use that name, but for the sake of not making ripples in the water, it would be best to stay away from it.

Altough it sounds very ridiculous, Squaresoft could launch lawsuit pertaining to it if they wanted to...more than likely, they would win because its their intellectual property. Hell, even Nintendo could do the same but since they don't see the point, they don't appear to plan on doing it unless they are really needing money.
