Linux Cyberjoueurs location

Why don't you base your office(s) in USA? Graal is in the English language, and a huge percentage of the player database is American. (sure there are Canadians and Australians but there is a larger American percentage overall)

I just find it odd that a company in France is making an American game. That's like a Japanese car company making American cars.. it doesn't happen.

There are many benefits to having the company located in the US. For one, you could get servers close to your location that you can maintain. Two, you could hire a lot more staff as many talented people that currently develop things for Graal live in America. (again not all, but many)

The biggest reason is the time difference. This game is obviously aimed at people that speak English. It would make it a lot easier on Cyberjoueurs staff to be able to update things during US daytime, without having to sleep during the day and work at night.

Not to mention it would be a lot easier to make Graal products, and make deals with other US companies, perhaps for advertising or whatever. Of course, this move would only be logical if the current staff didn't hold other jobs outside of Cyberjoueurs. Otherwise the team would be living in the office eating crumbs and tapwater. :p

True, but I think it would be a good step if they wanted to pull in more customers.

TheFrozenFiend 07-24-2002 04:09 PM

Move to England.

Ill let you rent a room in my house as long as you let me use your super speedy servers for downloading stuff off the internet. :p

Kaimetsu 07-24-2002 06:22 PM

Grim Squeaker:

There's nothing odd about French companies making English games, it happens all the time.
Besides, offices and land in Northern America is as expensive as the first Rolls Royce. (Well not really, but you get the idea)
Besides, since Graal is the only MMORPG which allows completely custom development by players, they can still attract players, no matter if their offices are in the US or in other places.

Plus, if they did want to become partially based in the US, it'd be better to just hire a server and a sent a few of their staff to operate it, it's far less expensive then having to move around all the current servers and offices.

Domini 07-24-2002 06:24 PM

Possibly because of American laws?

And it would make more sense to move to Quebec then the US.

Sony Playstation?

AlexH 07-24-2002 08:37 PM

He can't please everyone.
If they move the offices to America it will change their whole lives because they will have to move to America.
Imagine you moving to France to live, it would be difficult.
The time differnce is nothing.
If they move to America other people will suffer the time difference problem.
You can't please everyone.

mrkriton 07-24-2002 08:49 PM

If they plan to move to America they would need to worry about the immigration laws and Green Cards and stuff. Besides they could try to have seperate office's in America or something.

Valder 07-24-2002 08:55 PM

It would make more sence to move to canada....my family has a few acres of land up there, maybe they would give cyberjoueur some for a price ;)

screen_name 07-24-2002 08:59 PM

but they live over in France, why move?

OMG! What about the Bomy Zoo?! Or the Gralat Candy shop?!

AlkarenHyralt 07-24-2002 09:31 PM

Moving to the states would make them more available, yes, but it would also mean that people could just show up their office any time, when they may not want them to. In paris the chance is decreased highly.

Besides why move? They have everything they need in paris.

Should game companys like Squaresoft, and Capcom move here from Japan?

mrkriton 07-25-2002 12:43 AM

I agree with you AlkarenHyralt. But if they ever would plan to move to the US, they best move to Connecticut. We are small but we are l33t.

Have you not heard of the SquareSoft USA Headquarters? Plus SquareSoft is teaming up with Disney to make an RPG. I didn't beleive it either until I saw it for myself. It's out in Europe already and its called Kingdom Hearts. Here is a link that I think works.. http://gamers.com/game/1068033

Maybe Cyberjour should team up with another small group and they could probably do something

DeathChill 07-25-2002 01:52 AM

James: Sorry to burst your bubble there Spanky, but most of the good cars are imports.

Squaresoft has a Location in the U.S I believe its in New York

AlkarenHyralt 07-25-2002 03:17 AM

Yes, Square and capcom have US Offices. I should have further defined what I meant; my apologies.

SquareSoft's main headquaters is in japan, that's where all the devolpment of the games and such are done. I was speaking more along the lines of them moving that office here.

Aknts 07-25-2002 03:29 AM

Look at neopets.com

They started off with the staff being 2 people in Britain, then they moved and moved the entire thing to California, two years later, they have a huge office building with dozens of staff, servers that barely ever go down, and sponsors out the wazoo. Now they are marketing merchandise.

I never said good things aren't made in foreign areas, but cars weren't really that good of an example because you don't need to know a certain language to drive a car (most cars anyway). A better example would be an animation company. How many Japanese animation companies do you know that make American cartoons? They are basically all japanese style cartoons (anime).

I'm just saying that if the majority of their players are American, and the language is English, it might be better to just be in America. Plus if they moved somewhere like California, it's like Silicon Valley with tons of people that could help out.

By the way, japanese car companies don't make american cars. They make cars that are imported to america, but american made cars aren't like japanese cars. (Ford, GE, etc) You don't see them making Ford trucks in Japan.

DeathChill 07-25-2002 04:47 AM

I'm not sure what this would accomplish, besides them living here now. (which does what exactly?) Maybe they have a better chance of getting sponsors here though..feh I don't know :(

LordHelmut:

There are both Positive and Negative sides to the move. The negatives, in my opinion, outweight the good. Like others said, one problem is the fact of money. I mean these guys arent rich (or we would have better servers) so of course that would be costly. It would be time consuming. It would take them away from there homes and jobs. The only positives is the CHANCE of more promotional stuff here. Like someone said, they would be bombarded by visits and such.

Oh and some random statements are...
Someone called Aknts Spanky and thats Konidias. Why is Nightmare Before Christmas (best movie of all time) in a game and what does it have anything to do with anything? This movie was made by Tim Burton without any disney OR squaresoft support. Why has it been added in?

Birdbird_0 07-25-2002 11:19 AM

Because they know if they did, they would see a fat man at their office door named Stefan Kovalik with curly black hair trying to get in, mainly to sit on the employes.

Actually, there are a lot of Japanese companies which are financing new American factories owned by them that produce American cars.

Also, did you know that a Lexus is simply a souped up Toyota? An Infiniti is a glorified Hyundai? Most of the "luxury car" brands we know are built off of the frames of Japanese cars, simply souped up and "luxurified".

So, in essence, Japanese car companies do make American cars.

warp2ukew 07-26-2002 08:13 PM

What Alkaren said about people coming is true but what about needing a card to get in or something? Maybe access to the lobby of the offices would be available but you would need permission to actually meet or go in the offices themselves. MOVE THE OFFICES TO RIDGELAND,MISSISSIPPI AND STEFAN MOVE INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD RIGHT NEXT TO THE BIG SCHOOL NAMES SAINT ANDREWS SO I CAN COME TO UR HOUSE AND WE COULD HAVE SLUMBERPARTIES PLAYING GRAAL ALL NITE =D

shuvit_up_yur_bleep 07-27-2002 01:41 AM

Move in with me, all i ask you is for me to use your super powerful RC's and 15% of what you earn.

LOL:D

CyberX 07-27-2002 07:37 AM

Don't move. No need. Me, red-face.
