MAJOR Changes are coming underway on Murasamune

Well, first off I got a message to everyone I am helping, or at least was trying to help. I can no longer help, maybe a few little suggestions and help on small things you can't figure out, other then that I cannot help.

I will be way to preoccupied with the new updates I plan on doing to Murasamune.

I admit, during the last few weeks Murasamune was in fact near the state of death. To many small things I didn't like, and replacing the small things (such as the bodies) required more work then I thought I could handle (new ganis, new templates...redoing basicly every graphic I have).

The scripting side of Murasamune is perfect. Its the graphics I am having alot of problems with.

I plan on redoing EVERYTHING. I am going to redo the tilesets, redo the bodies, heads, armors, EVERYTHING will be redone except the NPCs.

I wil be showing screenshots of base stuff as I move along. Once new bodies and such are all done, I will be making Murasamune a stealth project, no public updates.

Eventually, upon release, the website will be released as well.

A note to PW testers:

My new plans for Murasamune step COMPLETELY away from Graal in EVERY aspect. When I get done, it will seem more like it is a single player experiance more then anything...I just want to say fear not, heh I have BIG plans for making the classical single play layout into a multiplayer experience.

Final Notes:

Eh...about the 4th time I'm redoing everything? I lost count...but with the things I have learned, and the things I know I am capable of, this WILL be the last and the most incredible remake I do of Murasamune. This will be when Murasamune gets released...

Just look out for updates, I will be positng frequently on these forums with the many base updates I plan on having. I will let you know which update will be the last as well.

Wish I could release more info, but I want everything to be a big surprise. I will release nothing about anything but graphics, just to let you know.

Thanks for reading that, if you have any comments/questions/suggestions please let me know.

I can't wait. This sounds good. Good luck!

royce 07-13-2002 02:07 PM

Ok, no matter what everyone has said about this server, I think it's the best out there. I loved all your previews. I will deffinitally be putting on some killer hours on this playerworld if it hopefully gets up. I wish I could contribute, I am only good with levels though. Well, Good luck, hope you do well.

Frolic_RC2 07-14-2002 01:13 AM

I dunno what to work on first, I made some cool looking body concepts yesterday, but I'm thinking tileset...

Which would you guys rather see first? =P

In other words bump.

If I could match you're style graphics I would try to help but I can't :( Good luck.

As soon as you get body templates done post em and I'll try to make some more for you.

Glory 07-14-2002 01:48 AM

Corupt: if your redoing everything bodies tileset everything i wouldnt start over by working off the graal tileset or even the zelda tileset if you can just make a completely new tileset and work it from your mind or find one on the internet to work from this would help get away from graal alot

I have never worked off the graal tileset...everything I make is from nothing.

Cid_Night 07-14-2002 01:57 AM

why would u wanna get away from the graal concept, i mean ya making a new tileset is cool and stuff, but its still a graal game using the graal engine...dont stray too too far

Glory 07-14-2002 12:31 PM

Corupt: better yet soulblade you i know you already want to get away from graal you want to show graal up lolz

so why dont you take some online tutorials and make your own program game editor whatever since your redoing everything why not just leave from graal and start with completely your own program then you would be able to get your game online
some time in the near future and maybe after awhile charge people and then the money rolls in and youll be sitting in your lazy boy chair countin your benjamins and living large

(well thats my dream anyhow why I don't take my own advice I don't know, but I might...)

trust me soul as much time as we pw makers put into our pws we should be making money off of it i mean yeah the pride you get from people liking your work is good and everything but its not that much i mean your putting time from your life into making this many many many hours have been spent into it why not make some money off of it so you can get a new comp a plastic squeezy toy that makes the high pitch dog noise or anything you want lolz

atleast if you go this way you won't be working some dead end job asking the person in the car of the drive-thru "Would you like fries with that hamburger?"

sigh.. but make your own program then goto a cheap computer store or whatever and buy some comps to host your online game then set it up and you got the hook up

your work will be soemthing you love to do not many people have that and they feel like their life is a waste trust me you'll thank me for this advice I mean you prolly already been thinking bout it

but anyways i've typed to much but I just don't see the idea of makign a game off the graal engine that looks nothing like it and it will attrack people from different pws to play yours becuase its different why not attract them to your own online game and make them pay if they like it that much or whatever

i know a buncha yall are prolly thinking shut up corupt lolz I wanna con soulblade cuz his pw is gonna roxor and im gonna get to play it for free!!! or however yall say stuff but whatever you get the point just do it

[edit]paragraphed so it won't hurt mmmkay eyes (don't say I don't care about ya mmmkay I don't want girls lookign at you when you have to goto the eye doctor and get soem dorky bottle cap glasses just becuase you read my very important post)[/edit]

Faheria_LAT3 07-14-2002 12:50 PM

mmmmkay: I insist on not reading such large posts which are not paragraphed, burns the eyes.

- I have average programming skills. It would take me a year or more to get good enough to program an efficient online rpg with level editor, etc.

- It would cost tons of MY money to buy servers to run at home, and a T1 line needed for the game, or buy remote servers and pay monthly charges for them.

- I would get harrassed by Graal players telling me my game is a Graal ripoff.

- I would get discouraged if I get stuck on a programming problem and quit the project.

- I want to make the best playerworld Graal has ever seen.

- I also want to set a standard for pw's to come. Once an excellent quality playerworld has been released, people will think twice about the half-as*ed playerworld they want to submit.

There are my reasons. I'm sure SoulBlade can vouch for a few of those reasons anyway. Sure, I would love to own my own online game and profit from it or whatever... Maybe once I have saved some money, and I have ran Oasis for a while, I might consider moving on to my own online game project. But there are WAY too many amateur online rpgs being made that will never finish. (especially the ones made in Visual Basic for crying out loud)

Heh wow, I think you covered most of them.

Perfection has many different forms. The form in scripting, I would say, is it gets what you want done, exactly as you want it done.

Thats what the NPCs in Murasamune do for Murasamune.

If you think there are no bugs whatsoever then you're either very good or very naive. And I'd add efficiency to the definition of perfection - NPCs that perform their function are fair enough, but a script that'll run without slowdown on 99% of PCs is better than one with an equivalent figure of 98%. Personally, I don't think I've ever coded a perfect NPC longer than a few lines.

Would you like to know what? I don't give a crap about your dream world where everyone competes in scripting. I care that my scripts work the way I want, if you have a SUPER slow cmoputer they may not work. I don't care, I'm not going to waste my life and my time making these scripts 2 lines long, its already taken me long enough to just make them.

So just lay off, do people see the scripts? They see how the function, and mine function the way I want. Thats ALL scripts should do.

Spark910 07-15-2002 01:27 AM

I really want this PW online.....

I'm not faulting your scripts - I've no reason to doubt that they do all that you say they do - I'm just saying that "perfect" might've been something of an exaggeration.

Sounds like a tautology. Of course scripts should do what they should do, but efficiency does matter too. Not that I'm accusing you of writing inefficient scripts - I'm just pointing out that there's more to perfection than simple functionality.

Alright seems reasonable. Perfect was a overstatement by far, as I doubt a script could ever be perfect...

The truth is I really don't care about making them ultra-efficient, in the long run the player won't be able to tell a difference in how well everything runs.
