We'll, heres my first level attempt, it was an island, but it was rather sorta ill shaped, so tell me what ya think please.

first time level making?
Well a couple of things I would do it fix the errors on the path, and the whole way around doesn't have to be cliffside, make the cliff end off and make a sandy beach or something. And yes the island is very mal-shaped sorta squarish, you might want to fix that.Eliminate some of the plant things, and add more grass type tiles. You could pull a graal 2001 and add light effects to the ground to give it some edge.
Make the path twisty, and use different types of sand tiles for in the path.

Remind me to do that my next level. which plant thing?
*and the path, its hard to make it look good, because they have all the good path parts hidden :-/

you can see why he isn't a LAT, he is more of the type that gives me ideas, and I script them.

TIP:
find the predefined path stuff (DON'T USE IT) just take the little pieces, this way you have all the tiles you need right there.

WHIPENIE4 06-28-2002 09:23 PM

any better?

Cid_Night 06-28-2002 10:44 PM

well i realize its your first time but what you should do before you get acustomed to using the predefined objects to much (i see you used the tileset for some stuff) just study the tileset, find some tiles you like and use em alot, when you get accustomed to your favorite tiles for certain situations u can start getting crazy with em and make it really high quality, i guess this would be whats meant by having a "style"

-edit- a warning, for the island edges like that (not beaches) just use the predefined stuff and once its out there edit it so they fit together correctly, those things are so unbelievably jumbled on the tileset i still cant figure it out, it looks like a pile of brown. lol.

Yea, I gotta get used to the tileset, plus i think that looks a little weird up there. You'll mostlikely see my levels again :-)

Good try at the path, but not exactly, there are some tiles still missing. and your cliff suddenly shrinks for some reason.

SavantMiles 06-29-2002 12:53 AM

path looks better, i would say change up the islands border, its to sqaure make it more misshaped for a natural look.

One word of advice, don't put black on the edge of your levels. Looks pretty good though for a first try.

I think the black is just from his monitor size/resolution.
