Uploading Files
I know this has been talked about time and time again, about why we have 64k restrictions on files. But this is stuning growth of playerworlds becasue you can't upload your tilesets, your map images, etc. I think it would be a good improvement if we were allowed to upload files at most 512k in size if they were the following extension:

.gif
.png
.mng
.txt
.gmap
This would make to so you could avoid thing slike sharing exe files and MP3s over graal FTP, while still keeping the environment frendly for creative playerworlds. Those playerworlds which are found abusing this, would have it taken away and be limited to 64k. Sound like a plan? |
hmm
I'll refer you to this section in "newfeatures2002.txt"
- files bigger than 64k can be downloaded, which means that big tilesets and maps can be updated without releasing a new Graal version; to display the status of a download you can use the script variable downloadpos and the message code #D (filename) Yes...that is in there. Can you imagine that? |
he means graal ftp *on playerworlds* not the downloading in game from the server
|
On Babylon we have some files that are bigger then 64 kilobytes.
Someone got Stefan to upload them. Players are also able to download them without any problems :) |
We already know that files bigger then 64k can be uploaded by Stefan and the others, and can be downloaded if they are over 64k. We want to be to upload GFX files over 64k so that we we can do it ourselves and not having to wait 3 days for Stefan... :o
|
This is needed for atleast some playerworlds =\ but it would be nice If all of them could upload these entensions w/o limits, or with a 512k limit (more than enough)
|
I'm all for that. If it gets abused, that PW gets taken down. Simple enough, and it keeps the PW headcount down. :D
|
too bad stefan rarely reads the Future Improvements. I'd probably have more luck in the bugs forum having a topic "Graal is a trojan!!" or something, but I tend not to work on deception.
|
I think that Stefan should just designate two files for uploading large files, one for the tileset and the other for the map, because those are really the only things that will be bigger than 64k that you'll be needing to upload on your playerworld frequently. So if he designates the file names playerworld_tileset.png and playerworld_map.png, these will be the only files that would be allowed to be uploaded that are over 64k.
Also this is good because if someone tries to change the name of a .exe file to playerworld_map.png, it would be noticeable that there is an error if players try to use their maps. |

Yeah. I got midis bigger than 64k. =_=
|
*hrugs* I really dont even know why it was restricted. When we had to use FTP, we didnt have restrictions.....
|
Maybe he could make it a right in a new exe version.
Also he should add a prompt when you uploaded a file that is already there asking if you want to overwrite it. |
