The PW Problems...

...we've been having lately are getting ridiculous, with alot of the PW's scrapping theire entire world and "re-building" as soon as they get a server...

I think all PW's should have to meet the same standards as when they are passed by the PW review team. If they fall below the standards, they should be given a warning to get their acts togeather within a certain time-frame, and if they don't, should be shut down.

Look at alot of the playerworlds we're having problems with today and ask yourself "Would this PW pass if it were submited to the review team in it's current condition?" The answer sadly, for alot of these servers is... No.

There should also be standards for Staff on a playerworld, behavior of staff, amount of staff to average player ratio, etc.

Every Playerworld should get a checkup and review of progress once a month by a global pw admin or something. This way we could make sure PW's don't fall apart and stay up for months longer then they should.

Just my 5 cents.

the first couple of weeks when you've got your PW up and running are either really hectic or nice and smooth. in most cases, the Owner will become bored and stop caring about his online world and this is just a prelude to corruption, hacking, cheating, and all that stuff. I'm pretty sure that's what players do when they get bored of the server, that's why it's important to bring new innovative and immersive concepts to your PW!

well, that's my 5 cents. ^_^

I'm not talking about making improvemnents, I'm talking about people starting from scratch with a new map and everything and ending up with a server thats under development for months while it's online...

I was just saying, that's how most of the online playerworlds come to be, per-say.

iniquitus 05-26-2002 01:06 PM

Ah, ok I see.

I wish people could take ownership of abused/abdoned servers.

For me, it'd be Rudora.

I hear Alex (The current owner) hasn't been on for weeks and has no intention of getting a P2P account.

The levels over there have lost alot of their old "fun" value, and nothing there that has been added since Fox left has really been good.

I'd love to try and get Rudora to be a good PW again, lately it has 0 players alot of the time...

I have the complete backup of the server back before Fox left, so it could be restored to an acceptable and manageabe state, and I also have the support of most of the former (who left when Fox and I left.) and current (those who remember me) staff.

I really loved that server, I think it's worth saving before it just gets taken down... but I don't think that will happen...

So what was once a great server will be thrown away simply because of corrupt ownership. :(

I even still have the old rudoraonline.com address on one of my servers.

Something needs to be done, but nothing will be :(

Urizen

some things are just meant to be, I guess.

iniquitus 05-26-2002 01:16 PM

I almost feel like puytting "Wanta save Rudora? PM Psyker and Stefan asking them to make Urizen the new owner today!" in my sig sometimes :)

That'd only make me look like I wanted a power strugle though, so I guess I'll just let it die... *sniff* *sniff* :(

Psyker 05-26-2002 09:42 PM

heh, yeah. somebody called me power hungry once when I asked for level 1 global rc access from Stefan, when I can practically blow up every playerworld on the serverlist if I wanted to.

I think that after a server gets put up, aside from being checked now and then by PW Inspectors, it undergoes another "test", where a PW Inspector will look at everything and determine if it still has the quality to be online. If his answer is NO, it doesn't have the quaility anymore, the server will get a warning.

Then the next month the PW Inspector-guy will come on and do it again. If the server had a warning last month, and it hasn't shaped up, then we have a friendly chat with the owner of the server discussing the future of it.

Just my 5 cents.

The reason Alex is "never" on is because he lives in California and I bet you heard this from spark? Yeah well he lives in Europe, quite a difference in time zones there huh?

And the old levels were extremley boring I it may seem like nothing is getting added, but hey, I am trying my best to finish the overworld and add some new stuff, one project at a time!

I suggest you talk with the Rudora staff before you contact Stefan and/or Psyker.

Boring? You have much to learn about what makes a Playerworld Fun, perhaps thats why Rudora is often at the bottem of the server list...

Sticking all the grass tiles you can into a level doesn't make it a beter level. Rudora's old style was fun, and the classic style. Don't even begin to critisize Fox's work, because I'd be very surprised if you could create a world that would compeate with Fox's origional work in creativity, origionality, and quality.

The classic level style is fun because it's not confusing... the paths are clear, and if theres something the player should pay attention to, he/she notices it right away. All these new playerworlds have levels that are cluttered and don't add to gameplay whatsoever.

If the current ownership of Rudora didn't like Rudora, why did they take it to begin with? Why not just make your own PW and see if it passes the review team, I'm sure it would with your very creative slash the 10000 badies style quests...

The only people who care about extravigant levels are levelmakers. Most players like simple levels with quality.

What paths? All I ever saw was a couple weed tiles here and there. And there will be something for everyone, diversity is the key. All i need is some help but no one seems to care, either that or all the talent has been sucked dry from Graal.

Exactly, that's why i said diversity... You'll see, it'll just be a while, unless i can get some help...

Simple is nice. Did you even actively play Rudora before Fox left? :o

Maybe I should start a "Rudora Classic" server :p

That is pretty boring, and yes, i know what Fox's style was/is like.

iniquitus 05-27-2002 12:04 AM

I'm not going to argue with you about this. I've played the new quest on Rudora and they are very boring. I think your playercount speaks for itself

If I could I'd close this thread, it's gotten heavily off topic, partly my fault.

Urizen :o

Xbob42 05-27-2002 01:42 AM

My idea.

Well it may be time consuming but how about the playerworld administration team re-review all of the playerworlds that are currently up.

The ones that are really really bad or boring, take them down.

The ones that are semi-bad, then give them a warning to fix up the playerworld. And review them again in about 3 months. 3 months I believe is a lot of time to get some of them back looking good.

The main thing that I feel should be done is for some of them to be re-reviewed.

dude. re-reviewing the playerworlds online are pretty simple. i can point out which ones aren't that good, and which ones are bars of gold. :(

iniquitus 05-27-2002 02:23 AM

Right, most of the PW team alredy visits the PW's frequently, so they know whats going on, I'm just saying that Stefan/Unixmad should give the PW team the power to take down PW's that don't meet the standards.

I also think it would be cool if the PW team offered a little help to PW's every now and then if they look like they don't understand something-- like the logon messages for example (hehe pet pieve).

PW's shouldn't consume Stefan's time and energy when he's busy working on the software, and Graal Gold servers. Lots of PWs have questions, or issues that need to be resolved, but Stefan isn't the easiest man to reach.

Matter of opinion my man.

And I do agree with the re-reviewing, but instead of just taking the server down... And the PWA HELP OUT! :O! Give suggestions things like that!
