PM Removal!

Well, there should be an option in serveroptions.txt which allows you to turn on/off PMs, like this:
allowpms = 0

(0 for false, 1 for true)

Murasamune needs PMs to be off to truely integrate the messaging system, and to make things more like the time setting...

I mean, who could instantly send a message to someone in far older times? Not the common person...or anyone for that matter ;).

Spanko 05-05-2002 03:55 AM

It could be done with magic, I guess. Though, of course, not everyone is able to use magic.

Kaimetsu 05-05-2002 04:10 AM

I agree, and toalls should join 'em.

Amagius 05-05-2002 08:49 AM

That would be good, as long as not all servers got it.

zell12 05-05-2002 11:20 PM

this is a nice idea, but 2 things, its just an option in the RC, not a .txt file. and second, you wouldn't use numbers, ypou would just use
ppms=true/false
ptoalls=true/false
ptoguild=true/false
etc...

Kaimetsu 05-05-2002 11:36 PM

0/1 is just another way of representing false/true.

An option in RC? It is in RC, which just manipulates serveroptions.txt. If you are talking about RCs getting the messages, they are talking about players sending them.

zell12 05-05-2002 11:40 PM

well, you only want the players to not be able to send pms, so you use "p"pms=true/false...

I suppose, but why can't it go in serveroptions.txt? There should also be an option for RCers to be able to ignore people on the playerlist, or at least ignore masses.

zell12 05-05-2002 11:46 PM

well, you CAN ignore massmessages... and there are little buttions in RC, one of them is the server options buttion. Its not in the FTP no more.

No, it isn't in FTP any more. Just because it's in FTP doesn't negate the fact that it's a txt file. I never saw anything in the RC options to ignore mass messages.

zell12 05-05-2002 11:55 PM

options :rolleyes:

Frolic_RC2 05-07-2002 08:05 AM

Well, basicly players would still be able to communicate...

With animals, they purchase at a shop, they can tell another player that they want to meet at some town. From there they can plan adventures and chat.

I just don't want any masses like:

"COME BUY THIS NEW SWORD I MADE AT THE BLACKSMITH"

I want people to advertise like it would REALLY be done, with signs, and to customers of there shop.

Its REALLY important to remove PMs.

Stefan please allow the option.

zell12 05-07-2002 08:27 AM

Well, it would be nice, mabey make the only way to send pms is through RC.

Not even that. I want to make PMs GONE COMPLETELY.

I would have a Admin Messages section though, SCRICTLY for announcing "RP Events" and server things, such as:

"We are going to be testing something, so you will be warped to a level"

things like that...

Its so we don't interrupt what players are doing, like if they are exploring a dangerous cave with alot of enemies..a admin message could get them killed which leads to complaint.

Thats why I want ALL the messages gone, even toalls, and guild.

As I said animals would be used, and players could actually see them flying to another player, or going through trees, or following paths to get to the player. Once they send the message, they are realease...

So its good to set up meeting places...

But you guys get my point, something like that requires the absence of PMs.

zell12 05-07-2002 08:40 AM

o.O I hope you get alot of good scripters :rolleyes:

Ahh maybe but PM's should be used for OOC (Out of Character) in that case.

There is NEVER a "OOC" on Murasamune.

The NPCs will prevent this. Can you go "out of character" in real life, or any other game for that matter? No...so I'm not allowing it here...only difference between other PWs is that i'm not saying "if i see this you get banned", I'm saying no matter what it will be impossible to not RP basicly.

I mean, most staff won't even get RC, I'm going to make a system controlled by NPCs...only a few (like 3) will get RC rights, and if possible I want the RCs to be hidden from the playerlist, except mine and a few others.

Back to what I was saying...

PMs need to be removed =P.

G_yoshi 05-07-2002 10:25 PM

Heh, I use letterbox view...and hide the map...players would have to leave open the playerlist box to talk :/ But it would does keep the screen a little less cluttered :D

I don't think that's a good idea...

There is always exploits, always.

I do.

I plan on having it all controlled by NPCs, not enforced by words, by tons of RCs watching...controlled by the game like it should be.

Players don't want to do what they are doing? The do something else. You make your own character how you want him, there is not reason to allow players to be "out of character".

And there are always ways to counter exploits ;).

And there are ways to counter the counter-exploits. We could go on forever.

Kaimetsu 05-08-2002 09:30 PM

So you'll have NPCs that react to strings like "Oh, and have you seen Spiderman yet?" ?

Jeff:

That can be done. Add "spiderman" to a list of outlawed strcontains. Make a rule, "circumventing RP-necessitated word blocks and getting caught makes you go to jail." Enforce rule.

Falcor 05-10-2002 07:13 AM

its really not that practical to make certain works (besides curses) blocked. rather phrases. is you do words people will be like jailed becasue it saying. "There is a spiderman in the cave up yonder!"

I'm not going to be THAT scrict about character, I want people to RP but I'm not going to ban them for saying something out of time setting...

I might make a few barriers if things get out of hand but I doubt it, since it will be hard for it to get out of hand...because I mean it will be very hard to contact someone, unless you get there AIM, but then we won't need to worry about things like then, will we?

I'm trying to make an envirenment where it will be hard NOT to RP, and I'm not going to discuss it with you.

This thread is about PM removal.

Kaimetsu 05-10-2002 09:07 PM

I have no idea what you think "in-character" and "out-of-character" mean.
