why does an showcharacter npc appear as a player and an npc?

Well showcharacter makes a player...I don't think you understand the point of the showcharacter command...

hmmm put some Showcharacter NPCs in the level and message the playerscount (offline)... should be 2 so showcharacter NPC are seen as players AND NPCs... I thought Stefan had fixed this some versions ago but if you got the problem now it doesn't seem so :\

well i suppose if only players and characters can use ganis, i guess they would have to share some scripting.

That's because Graal sees any showcharacter NPCs as both NPCs and Players, I could've done a check to see if the NPCs head was something or not but I was too lazy to add that back when I made it.
