Automatic Restarting of NPCServer

I was thinking that maybe PW owners should be able to restart the NPCServer through some kind of program. I have a few npcs on Frolic that I believe are causing lag and then when I run a test one it crashes the npcserver. This has happened to me about 3 times in the past week.

Or

Just make it automatically reconnect.

Yea, that would also save Stefan the work of having to restart the NPC Server

yes, this would be great

Saga2001 03-20-2002 09:58 AM

yay! great plan!

Well, having the NPC Server not reconnect allows Stefan to restart a new one without the old one reconnecting, I found this in the RC log on Providence:
Time: Mon Mar 18 20:24:42 2002
Stefan is logged in
Time: Mon Mar 18 20:25:03 2002
Stefan disconnects (npcserver)
Time: Mon Mar 18 20:25:51 2002
RC Stefan disconnected.
Time: Mon Mar 18 20:53:05 2002
Stefan is logged in
Time: Mon Mar 18 20:53:11 2002
Stefan disconnects (npcserver)
Time: Mon Mar 18 20:54:18 2002
RC Stefan disconnected.

So having the NPC Server not reconnect will allow Stefan to switch the software to a new version

how about an option to disable npcs server reconnect (only for lvl 5 RC) And then he can update it that way? It would be alot ezer int he long run for stefan not to have to run around to all the server reconnecting the npcs srvers when they are down.

And learning WHY npcs cause lag an how to avoid it, would be a wise choice.

I think I've seen him say once he was working on that, though that was a few months ago.

It wouldnt work
If you make an NPC that crashes NPC server
Then restart NPC Server it will only crash again
...This is why when you crash NPC with a script Stefan/Unixmad has to go on the database remove the NPC then restart the NPC Server.
Giving owners access to the NPC database when NPC Server isnt connected would just be one more security risk hackers could exploit.

Yes it can lag the server badly, like the script
on TDK which has sent tons of MB to the *******
which then disconnected the npcserver automatically,
I needed to fix that problem before restarting the
server.
