New level editor.

I don't like it that much now. I liked being able to move tiles and move the guy in the level editor at the same time. So much better than dragging to an edge, scrollbarring, and then placing the tiles, and having to fix up whatever you dragged (the green grass showing. :\)

Couldn't agree more with you.

Torankusu 01-25-2002 04:18 AM

I got really used to it and liked it, and now it's gone.

Gangster88 01-25-2002 04:19 AM

ahhh that sucks

Kasuagi 01-25-2002 04:19 AM

maybe if the screen moved as you moved the tile...

Torankusu 01-25-2002 04:22 AM

Ah,
I SAW a big cursor right when I pressed f4, but a second later it disappears.

Slaktmaster 01-25-2002 04:44 AM

I want it back as well. :(

It was like that for me too.. now I see the cursor thing.. its pretty much like the player is, you can click and drag it around.. I'm not sure about moving with arrow keys.. I didn't check..

Gotta love the level control thing though (pathway generator example)

Pathway Generator?

Torankusu 01-25-2002 04:54 AM

I saw the cursor after I mapped the levels and had them connected, but i still don't like how it disappears in un-mapped (inside) levels. :\

Waltz5 01-25-2002 04:55 AM

?? What's this big cursor... I see normal cursor and old style.

Androk2k1 01-25-2002 05:01 AM

BOOOOOOO new Editor is bad! It's Evil! LATS are dead from now on! Superb Levels can be generated automatically and that means any NAT cabn ebe LAT and all LATs have to be come NATS or get fired due not being needed!

So much for me trying to creat Super Beutiful server... so long dreams of Level land... Guess that's the end of it...

Sir_Gareth 01-25-2002 05:03 AM

HOLYZ COWZ THATS NUTZ THAT PATH GENERATOR

No.. with this new thing it looks too generated. You can really tell what was and wasn't.

Torankusu 01-25-2002 05:04 AM

i don't see a path generator? Where is it?

feivel 01-25-2002 05:05 AM

What are you talking about path generation and stuff??
what is that??
what about generating elvels huh im ocnfused!!!!!!!

The menu with the NPC's.. all the way at the bottom.

Sir_Gareth 01-25-2002 05:07 AM

Predefined Objects>Go to bottom>Select Sand Path

Torankusu 01-25-2002 05:08 AM

Ahh.. I see.

Solareon 01-25-2002 05:11 AM

gotta go check that path generator out, I might be ableto make cool levels and stuff

konidias 01-25-2002 05:12 AM

Yeah but the path is just an example.. it can be scripted to not have so many big and small rocks.. the scripts are in the levels/npcs/ folder

I think it's great.. now you can just draw your trees and paths and swamps and cliffs and...

I think it's very cool.. it's still gonna take good LATs to make nice looking levels.. just because this thing does all the tile work doesn't mean you can just scribble all over the level and be a pro.

I can't see how you're angry with this.. it makes things so much easier.. being a pro doesn't involve having to tile things one by one.. it isn't even about using millions of different tiles.. it's about design.

Solareon 01-25-2002 05:14 AM

path generator > all

with the old level editor and the guy it would rox sox

If the cursor worked with unmapped and inside levels, I wouldn't mind using it.

You're right. It's going to save ALOT of time if you know how to use it. ;D

Androk2k1 01-25-2002 05:20 AM

BTW I think they took guy off because of us...

Konidias... that's the problem I am pretty bad NAT in unscripting stuff and I have no idea what is i that script and how to remake it.. that's the problem... any good NAT can now make levels... he can change it to make something instead of path... like river! And do you know how long time it take to make a good river? I am pretty sure you do 0.0...

What is wrong with that? He's obviously very good if he knows how to change the script to make good levels alot faster.

konidias 01-25-2002 05:27 AM

I plan on making my own dev pack by scripting a bunch of those.. such as cliffs, trees, water, etc.

I will most likely release it here so everyone can use it :)

Sir_Gareth 01-25-2002 05:27 AM

Kondias your still looking for lats?

Good, because I can't read and decipher this one well enough to change the tiles.

Androk2k1 01-25-2002 05:28 AM

*Looks evely at Konidias* You better... Because I know where you live!

Ah yeah well I didn't understand the tile stuff at first.. I pmed stefan and he explained it to me.. basically, all the tiles are read in hex format (although you can use another format)

So for example, if you wanted to get the hex of the shallow water tile you could do this:

When you mouse over the tile in the editor it says "14,24"
then the equation would look like this:
24*16+14

Which would equal 398.. then you can just use windows calculator, punch the numbers in decimal format, and then switch to hex format.. and you end up with 18E

So the end product is "0x18e" that is the hex value of the shallow water tile.. also you can just use "24*16+14" instead of the hex value, probably easier. ;)

Woohoo!

Yakuna2001 01-25-2002 06:08 AM

yes, a cliff, tree, sea, river, grass sand path, and snow path generator would be nice.........if someone could script those and make them publically available, im sure a lot of people would be greatful including myself.;)
