Do you remember...?

APRIL NINETEENTH 2000.
April 19, 2000 (11:58)

Important Information

All accounts have been deleted. Please click HERE to register for a new one. The real reasoning behind the mass wipe lies deeper than you think. There are two major reasons and then several less obvious that I will layout on the table now.

The first and foremost action that prompted us to erase the account occurred several weeks ago when a system bug allowed some curious onlookers the ability to view and record all the account passwords. Within this compromised environment we felt it necessary to reinstate the security of player accounts. Since then, we have taken steps to provide for one-way account password encryption.

The second reason for the wipe was the prospect for a new generation of account record keeping. In an effort to bring better support to our players we needed to link the given email addresses with the accounts themselves, thus creating a dynamic bond between customer support and player satisfaction.

The lesser known problems that impelled up for a player wipe were the masses of extra life containers & un-regulated NPC weapons that long time players still used since they obtained them over last summer. Since then, these unbalanced items were removed but newer players could never reach the same level as the older accounts.

I do so hope this, now balanced environment, will just as enjoyable as it was before. As more improvements come to Graal in the future such as the New World Project and more driven standards in level composition and NPC scripting, we can not promise that there will never be player wipes again. Although I do not see any of these in the near future, they will come when needed.

this was the last account deletion, it sucked. the passwords we used to have made much more sense unlike the new ones. I remember mine it was like abbot32oven, it was quite awesome. Anyone else remember the deletion. No more bottles :(*

DeathChill 01-16-2002 12:35 PM

Er no one here remembers this (almost no one) most of these people here stared after 2001 came out hence WAY after the account wipe.

AlkarenHyralt 01-16-2002 12:35 PM

I wouldn't even hear about Graal until about 7 months later.

Chrismas 01-16-2002 12:37 PM

i remember i was suuuch an idiot back then..... oh wait i still am. thilly me

ZanderX 01-16-2002 12:41 PM

psihunter 01-16-2002 12:58 PM

I just hit the servers of Graal around the date of September maybe

Rented_Human 01-16-2002 01:05 PM

i didnt realise the accounts were deleted.. but hey i cant remember 5 minutes ago so what do i know

Qwert616 01-16-2002 01:07 PM

Nope, I wasn't playing on the main servers at that time.

konidias 01-16-2002 03:51 PM

Was that the time when Classic was reset completely?

That's when I quit classic and started playing 2k1 :)
There was no F-ing way in the world I was about to start all over on classic.. I had the items and money ever since I started playing on classic, even when I left for 6-8 months and came back my stuff was still there.

Then all the sudden *boom* all gone.. "oh it was for a good reason" hell, there is NO good reason for me to lose everything I worked for. >P

why put so much effort and work into something if in the end, you'll have nothing to show for it?

craig_bomy 01-16-2002 08:08 PM

i remember when classic accounts were done, but i never played on classic, i only played a little bit in npulse, it was kinda hard seeing as the only computer i had was in school

grim_squeaker_x 01-16-2002 08:11 PM

I don't remember that since it's about 5 months before I originally started playing Graal.
It must have sucked though.

kyle0654 01-16-2002 09:09 PM

Yah, that kinda sucked. I got everything again though, and then it sat in my account until the last wipe...and I haven't felt like getting everything I had again, so now I have pretty much a sword on classic.

Shard_IceFire 01-16-2002 09:31 PM

lol I think the last time I played on classic was when it was just called "graal" and when it was the only server online.

Shorty2Dope 01-16-2002 11:31 PM

I don't remember it.. it was sometime during my 'break from graal' I played graal for a month or 2 then quit for like 6 months, then I think i played for a month then quit again.. came back around august 2001. :)

Psyker 01-17-2002 05:59 AM

yeah, i remember that.

then my friend told me to join raven's nest and my account got deleted again. :p

You mean RaVeNs fLoCk? Yeah, I remember that account wipe too. =P Got my first account taken away because of that.

James205 01-17-2002 06:18 AM

It didnt hurt me at all, because I only played graal like twice a month at that time, so I would loose all my account passwords anyways.

Tyhm 01-18-2002 07:31 AM

Well, at least Classic won't be facing any more wipes for fullheart reasons.

What, you thought the heras were just there for fun? NPCs can be moved, but if you even push a chest 1 tile with the editor, it becomes a new chest and resets.

Nastazio 01-18-2002 07:34 AM

I remember...

01-18-2002 07:36 AM

what year did they make Night/Day on graal/

Torankusu 01-18-2002 08:10 AM

I started when it was called Main Server in version 1.4*, and Kheldron was still up.

Kasuagi 01-18-2002 08:16 AM

I started when Mithica and Bravo Online (free) were up...

don't remember how far back that was

Loriel 01-19-2002 12:06 AM

I hate account resets! :(
I had the spiffy password abbot5moon before the evil wipe came. Next time, I got something starting with Em[cryptic stuff] and had that until I was banned by Mafukie because my account was messed, Stefan had to delete and readd it. Then I had my favourite pass for a long time, I even kept it after Galen deleted my account because it had adminpowers on it, some person gave them to me because I was LAT of Kharlia back then... instead, I should have gotten a Loriel_Kharlia account. So Galen readded my account, gave back my classic fullhearts, and gave me my Loriel_Kharlia account with the same pass (yey!). I finally changed the password when the accounts database stuff was leaked. I changed it, and later changed it again after all the stuff was fixed.

Aaah, the memories.

I actually stopped trying to get my classic stuff back after the last account reset there, but I still play there sometimes o.o

.oO(Graal staff was much more organized back then >.< doing so cool postings about resets and stuff)

Kasuagi 01-19-2002 12:13 AM

you can learn a lot about the Graal history if you find certain sites

I read from one site about the whole "Age of PACHUKA"

it's sort of fascinating

Admins 01-19-2002 12:53 AM

I don't remember any account wipe. The last time
(before summer 2001) the classic accounts got reset
was January 2000, but you didn't lost the password.

Admins 01-19-2002 12:54 AM

Its definitely a fake message!

Torankusu 01-19-2002 12:55 AM

Supernick?
