Wish list!

Since now seems to be a good time to propose new things to possibly implement into Graal, I will post something of a wish list...make amends to it if you wish :D

1. custom tile definitions (ie custom arrays.dat)
2. sprite rotation/flipping
3. multi-layer levels
4. support for JPEG images (sometimes I have jpegs smaller than pngs O.o)
5. more music formats (ie support for modual based music (mod, s3m, xm, it)
6. custom 'S' weapons
7. more shield levels with lots of configurable properties

That is all I can remember for now...feel free to add on :)

muti-layer levels are already done on 2k2

They aren't actually multi-layered.

I said image rotation in another thread, but someone said (Boco methinks) That it would need to use Direct3D or summin (what ever makes light effects work) So not alot of people would be able to see it... but hey... Who cares? It's not going to effect me! :p

Personally, I could care less if some people wouldn't be able to play graal anymore...their ancient machine needs to be upgraded so it isn't so ancient anymore...but most people don't like spending money for new hardware even though it's fairly cheap.

Basically, if your processor is fast (probably at least a 330mhz) enough to prevent offline lag, your video card can handle light effects (having 4mb or more for vram is good), you have more than 64mb RAM, and 56k dialup (not everyone can use DSL, Cable, or some other kind of high-speed connection) then you are fine.

It's nice that Stefan is concerned about players with older machines, but that limiting the rest of us that want better visual effects and what not.

As for Sprite rotation and flipping, Stefan has said something about it needing D3D...there is probably a way to do it without but it's probably easier using DirectX to take care of it...but since most machines the run windows use DX, then it should be fine...how much vram does it need to flip a 2D image?

I lag offline with a 550mhz, 32MB GeForce 2, 256MB of PC133 SDRAM. Explain to me why I lag offline, oh mighty one. :D

Beats me...I don't lag (either that or I don't notice it). I am talking about playing in general, not using the level editor.

I only lag when I have tons of NPCs on screen or lots of light effects or showimgs

Btw, you have a slightly faster processor than me (I have 500mhz AMD) 4x more vram than I do, and almost double my ram (I have 192mb...that is my limit on my laptop)

VyralP2P 01-04-2002 05:40 PM

I got pentium3 800mhz 256mb ram , savage/IX w/MV video card I dunno how many mb I have on it thought , and 500something mb cable modem ..did I mention it has dvd? :D
I wub my comp , and it's a portable comp yey!

  1. Power.
  2. More power.
  3. Much more power.
  4. Bwahahaaha!
Erm.. Nervermind ;P

But seriously:
  1. Using parameters in functions and being able to call custom functions in calculations. (E.G. Dist=DistCalc(x1,y1,x2,y2) after making the custom function DistCalc).
  2. Defining strings without having to use setstring all the time (E.G. this.string="Blabla")

JubeiSaotomeX 01-04-2002 08:19 PM

if graal2002 had a camera thing where you could change the angle (kind of like on breath of fire 3) that would rock

1. addtiledef?
2. Nope... that would suck.
3. Yup. Gimme.
4. Nope.
5. Nope.
6. Can be scripted.
7. Could be scripted too, but would be spiffy.

We have that already

Maybe....

Like RPG maker 2000?

JPGS are better for pictures, not graphics, stick with pngs. they are much better :D

Why? Midis are smaller than those =\

6. custom 'S' weapons

Its been done for New World i believe.

Shield levels? Explain

BlKnight 01-05-2002 01:03 AM

All sounds good. Only thing is its very easy to script new weapons, so that shouldn't be added. Same with shields.

AlexH 01-05-2002 01:05 AM

I wish someone would give me the 2k2 level editor :(

Tyhm 01-05-2002 03:29 AM

Shield Levels:

Currently - shield one blocks arrows and fireballs and spider rocks.
Mirror Shield reflects arrows and fireballs, although only locally: therefore, this is indistinguishable from shield one. It also speeds you up, for some strange reason.
Lizardon Shield reflects arrows, fireballs, and spider rocks. Again, only locally. It also speeds you up even more.

Therefore, the future system should be:
Shield one blocks arrows, but not fireballs nor spider rocks
Shield 2 blocks arrows and spider rocks but not fireballs
Shield 3 blocks arrows, spider rocks and fireballs
Hypothetical Shield 4 (goldshield2.png?) blocks arrows, spider rocks and fireblasts.
Hypothetical Shield 5 (crystal shield?) blocks arrows, spider rocks, fireblasts, and nukeshots.
Hypothetical Shield 6 (force shield?) blocks arrows, spider rocks, fireblasts, nukeshots, and explosions.

Hypothetical Boots 1 gives the player Mirror Shield Speed
Hypothetical Boots 2 gives the player Lizard Shield Speed

It could be scripted, but these are things I think every PW would benefit from....

Not it wouldn't, it could change the size and number of GFX files, if you could flip a sprite you would only need one left or right sometimes... not both...

If I am correct, addtiledef is limited to TWO different definitions. I am asking for a customizable arrays.dat which is not hard since we already have the tile references from setshape2 :p

I prefer mods because I don't need any special kind of software/hardware device to listen to them...PLUS you can compress them and use ModPlug to play them back (.mdz .smz .itz .xmz). I rather hate midis because they suck. I have a sucky card for playback of them and the XG software sucks up resources.

If consoles can do something so simple as sprite flipping, then why is it no possible with graal? It would really reduce image sizes...but only for those that have symmeterical left and right sides. Sprite rotation would be nice because you don't have to waste file space making the different positions or creating a gif that makes it looks like it's spinning.
