GUI Idea

Hello, Symbonia here. I just wanted to tell you guys about an Idea I have, and tell me what you think. (It will require Stefan to make a couple new scripting commands)

Ok, I wanted to make a completly new GUI (Grapical User Interface) more like a RPG game. With some new lists, Experiance, Weapons, Items.. etc.. But this list will complete the whole screen, there will be viewing space in the middle, but on the sides, there will be a frame, with some lists, viewing areas for weapons etc. Now, the new commands would be mouse commands, like clicking, draging, and mouseover. So you can arrange your Lists, for weapons, items.. and you could click on a item, and drag it into the playing area, and it would drop the item. The scripting will take a while, for navagating through-out the GUI, but this is a idea I have been thinking about for a long time.

So, Good or bad?

Possible except with mouse support on the current system of NPC Design...

Andor_Admin2 12-11-2001 04:39 AM

Yea..

you dont think Stefan could add that in as a new command?

like..

if (mouseover && id=blah) {}

and some draggin ones,

if (mousedown && mousmove=left) {}

stuff like that. I mostly need it for dropping and arranging items.
And stefan could even add it into the game directly, so with a normal item list, you can arrange your items, instead of asking a staff member to do it for you with there RC.

It isn't really necessary to have that though, you could do just as well with the keypad, couldn't you?

Andor_Admin2 12-11-2001 04:45 AM

Well..

You could use Keypad. But mouse would be alot more easier for players, aswell as the scripting.

I have so many ideas for this GUI, its hard to explain them all. If you have ever played Warcraft II, iI want to make it like that, but not exactly the same way, but same textures. And I would like the player to be able to view all of his/her attributes from the Menus. And be able to access them, and change them around to his or her liking.

Hey, Symb. I can make a GUI for you. No mouse support, but oh well. I am about to create a GUI template and I wouldn't mind in helping.

dude i bet you play Ragnarok Online lol, cuz thats exactly what they use: drag 'n' drop for items and you can move the windows around and it shows your stats and stuff.

Boco..

Hey, you would like to help? I PMed Stefan, im just waiting for him to reply about the new commands. But till then I want to make some Graphics. But with that I cant do that either, im at our local library and can not do any of that stuff.

Sorry

But if you want to make a Graphic for the border and menus, go ahead. ^_^

BocoC 12-11-2001 08:22 AM

I'll include support for different skins.

Andor_Admin2 12-11-2001 08:25 AM

Ok

Well, I guess we might aswell work togather on it ^_^

Im just saying that I cant do anything as of now, I have no access to nothing. I may be getting a new monitor like sometime this week, or next week. I have no idea, or maybe my mom is waiting till christmas, I have no clue. But I really would like to make a Owntastic GUI, like REALLY good ^_^

I may even add options, like for volume control, and sound control, turning off some of the displays, like exp, and time, etc. ^_^

But, alas, we can't.

All you would need would be 2 events, and 2 (maybe 1 array instead..) variables

Events:
mousedown
mouseclicked (prolly don't even need a mouseclicked, but it would save a little bit of script needed to make sure that a function doesn't get called over, and over, and over again, if they hold it down)

Vars:
mousex
mousey
(or...mousepos[0-1], 0 would hold the x value (in pixels) of the cursor, 1 would hold the y value, if the mouse is left or right of the window, than the x value would be -1, if it is above or below, the y will be -1)

It'd be great...I'd love to have mouse support

Andor_Admin2 12-12-2001 02:14 AM

I know

It would own, and there is some mouse support in graal already.. if you open your INV, and you click on a item, it selects it. So if Stefan can script that, im sure he could add some new vars and commands no proplem. I PMed him about it, so lets see if he will go for it. It could open alot of new things for Graal.
