aim and graal

Hello, when ever I have graal open while im logged into aim, my aim gets all messed up, I cant see what people are saying to me, and the only way i can usually fix it is by restarting my computer, now i'm co-owner of a server and I have a lot of people to talk to, and I have things I need to check that they send to me, but its really hard to reset the computer every 10 minutes, is there anyway to prevent this from happening?

That means you do not have enough memery to run all thoughs progs you run... Buy some new memery and put it in and it will work just fine :)

aires_graal 12-09-2001 10:04 PM

price?

would that cost a lot though? Hmmm maybe i should go though my files and get rid of all this junk i have...... i dont even know what half of it is for hehe

12-09-2001 10:09 PM

Well depends which kind of memery you get..... probly around 20 bucks... But if you close all programs that you are not using while running aim and graal it may not do that no more. Can you tell me how much memery you got in your pc and what progs you usually run while it does this?

aires_graal 12-09-2001 10:18 PM

ok

it has 128... i usually run graal, explorer, and sometimes paint programs. Lets see..... and msn messenger

well graal, explorer and aim should all work... But I know if you run msn with thoughs it will take up alot of memery... You shouldnt run paint programs like adobe, or paint shop prog while running graal or any other programs.

Yes. You can talk to the Graal players, and answer their questions while chatting on AIM.

I dont know anything? You mean you dont know anything... He is running out of memery thats why aim messages wont display the message, idiot.

SkooL 12-10-2001 11:01 AM

You could always ditch AIM, and download ICQ. :D

Er1c 12-10-2001 11:05 AM

IcePick is right, you need more RAM. There could be programs running in the background slowing you down too, so uninstall any programs you don't need or use.

adam 12-10-2001 04:07 PM

I do not understand... sorry :(

Yes I do agree with icepick here. Also most paint programs like psp and adobe take up alot of memory, can lags you alot when there starting up. I wouldn't run them while having graal and other stuff running. Graal can be enough lag on 128. I need more ram for mine soon. You can get PC2100 DDR 128mb for $19, or PC100 128mb for $9. Just depends what type of ram you need. Its very cheap.

royce 12-11-2001 05:42 AM

hmmmmm......one of his programs is having a problem on his computer. It closes all programs on the Computer except explorer....it may say that there aint ne programs open besides explorer but those programs are taking all that ram to close down...belive me this is true.....What programs do you have that starts up with your computer?

You need a DDR-compatible motherboard to get DDR.

Why would you want PC100? Get PC133...

Ummmm a lot, my mom has about 10 programs that open at start up, and i have aim and msn messenger. I know a lot of people who have the same problem i have though. so i dont know.....

royce 12-11-2001 01:13 PM

press ctrl+alt+del and list everything that says there as a opened program....DO THIS RIGHT AFTER YOUR COMPUTER HAS STARTED UP!,NOT I REPEAT NOT AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN PLAYING AROUNG A BIT! the caps are for so we dont make a mistake...And Zander could be on to something too...Also could you give me a list of your hardware currently on the system?

Admins 12-11-2001 08:33 PM

I think it's not a memory problem,
it's a problem of windows GDI resources
(and general windows resources) because in
older windows version it was limited and global
so when loading an image into DirectX it takes
resources (which are not completely freed when
deleted the DirectX object) and creating windows
take resources and all that stuff,
so after some time you get problems with icons
on the taskbar or on explorer or programs like
ICQ or AIM and Graal will say 'Canvas doesn't allow
drawing' or so

Kumada 12-11-2001 10:01 PM

when i have graal + aim open it makes my computer crash and i cant opens any folders

van_01 12-11-2001 10:36 PM

graal and aim seem to work fine when both open for me.....

I know, I was just giving a price range of how cheap it is. DDR is good for AMD boards which is what I'm getting.

OR TRILLIAN.

royce 12-12-2001 03:20 AM

no offense but trillian sux....i couldnt live with trillian instead of aim......no file transfer, no direct connect, no file sharing!

12-12-2001 03:30 AM

Umm it is a memory problem... I opened alot of progs and it displayed the message, but then I took all my memory out accept for one small stick of memory and then tryed opening a hole bunch of progs like I did before, and when someone aimed me it didnt display. So it is somewhat related with the memory.....

Does the 'Parameter is incorrect' error message happen for the same reason?

Hey, smart guy. Not only do you need to get off the drugs and realize you never replied to the other thread in this forum that I want you to read since I proved you wrong and made you look stupid, you apparently don't know that Trillian 0.7 has file transfer and direct connect.

Warcaptain 12-21-2001 07:58 AM

Are you running ICQ or anything else laggy?

Because if you are, it will lag very bad.
