Heeelllo everyone...

I think, along with a handful of other people who strive for fun, that Graal needs a widely spread method of enjoyment. Many players have already started finding ways to make their G2k1 subscription more effective, and the post popular way of doing so is RolePlaying.

Unfortunately, Graal is like a small rural town, nestled quite comfortably in the middle of nowhere. Nothing changes much, and its citizens either try to make the best of their lives or let themselves be caught in a web of sameness. In Graal, the same system applies. Some players log onto the game solely to PK. I don't exactly see the fun of watching a player spin around and fall down, but obviously these people do. However, other players, specifically the more intelligent of the bunch, try to engage in public events and roleplay.

But sometimes, these two types of playing intertwine in a mass of tangles that are about as messy as a 3-year old's first attempt at eating. Today, I witnessed about 3 or 4 PKers storm into a stable where a couple of players were RPing. The once placid moment turned into an every-man-for-himself rumble with a barrage of fireballs flying everywhere. These PKers shouldn't be disrupting other players' fun. It's completely unacceptable. Yes, Dark Man X has tried to change Graal's code of conduct by instating a 1 hour jail time for anyone who disrupts an RPing session. Again, Police are taking it into their own hands to settle disputes. However, the only eminent solution is to somehow spread RPing throughout Graal in a fun, positive manner.

So, the question is... how do you think Role Playing should be encouraged (not enforced) throughout Graal?

Well said Pago *claps*!

Tyhm 04-17-2001 09:23 AM

Make PKers into Baddies.

Fai 04-17-2001 10:03 AM

You should be invincible if you have Gold AP.

You aren't pk active, so why should you be killable?

Tyhm 04-17-2001 11:29 AM

Bad things happen if nobody with saint can be killed...for starters, they find a roundabout way to kill anyway (putNPCs are still succeptable, I think). Or, if everyone's a saint, nobody can PK anyone because noone can be killed, so nobody can lose goldname, so, um, something bad happens there...I dunno, it's late.

The Amulet of RPing, at the peak of Hero Mountain. When activated, makes you invulnerable, but you take 1 damage every time you fire another weapon or swing your sword.

Well, Pago, I think something that would encourage Roleplaying is a sophisticated role play friendly kingdom system where players could interact seperated from players who don't want to role play and...
wait a second... we're getting one of those! :D

Pago 04-17-2001 07:20 PM

Oh, sweet :)

I was thinking... maybe Graal could have a guild based on roleplaying, and the guild meets regularly just to have fun and roleplay. Anyway, if people who aren't interested begin to see the growing popularity of the guild, they'd probably want to know what makes it so popular, and they'd be interested in joining. :D

And while we're at it...

I RP. I have an owner (sorta), and I'm in the Bomy Family. I also have a day life.

Get up and do chores - 6:00
Take a nap - 3:00
Work for money and give people tours - 3:30
Sleep - 6:00 (PM)

GexGecko 04-17-2001 08:10 PM

Another thing...

The kitties were attacked while staying at Valder's, and yet HE DIDN'T GIVE US A KEY AND CLOSE THE DOOR! We were RPing, too. We kept running on the roof and stuff. We even "caught a whale" while RPing! Jeez!

I think we need some hierarchy in Graal,
so you will not just kill someone, because
then you will not be able to enter some
areas on the server anymore because people
are fighting you bad guy and disallowing
access,
like a castle guard will not let you in when
you have killed him some days ago.

So when you just kill all people you will
not have many fun. You will try to be
accepted by some kingdom and then fight
for them. People who are killed by some
knights of the medieval castle will go to
the enemy and fight for them against the
medievals...

In the current state of Graal everyone
is the same and has no real aim other then
going around and speaking with people,
and when you are bored you start to fight.
Events are a good thing to keep people
interested, but it would be better to make
it so that such events automatically happen:
castle owners let people in their castle and
let them fight for prices (money or the princess),
or they hire some people who play the
'dear' so that the royal family can go hunting
etc.
Because the kings have some source of money
(e.g. farming on their lands) they can give out
money for events.

FatherDante 04-18-2001 05:27 AM

It would be cool if Kings could award feifs to their servants, then the servants pay them back with excessive taxes! ^_^

When a person in a kingdom kills too much, the players should discourage it ("Murderer! Banish the murderer!") That way the roleplay system would naturally balance itself.

The beauty of it is that the players will be able to determine acceptable behavior based upon what roleplaying encourages and discourages, without the interference or need of "higher-ups"- the exception would be non-roleplayers who don't care about anything like that, they could simply be seperated, one way or another, from the roleplayers.

The obvious authority apparent in "royalty" would need to checked, but nonetheless, they could certainly be influential, being able to decide who would be given duchies or awards of land and titlage and whatnot.

Tyhm 04-18-2001 07:05 AM

Ooh!

Not the deer, the Dragon!

Get one guy to go around with a custom graphics NPCW, kinda like a Bomy but way bigger, maybe 2x a player's size, get the G2K1 Gfx team to make a big black dragon, and everyone's gotta shoot at it with their bows because it's too high up to hit with swords, and it can breathe spyfire like a horse!

It could have Bomy style health too, so it takes like a hundred hits to kill, and maybe you gotta shoot the Dragon-player to make them fall down, then slash them with your sword to kill?

Maybe they just have a goldname so they're naturally invulnerable to swords?

That'd be WAY more fun than a deer hunt!

GexGecko 04-18-2001 09:37 AM

HEY!!!

Me and Drake are young dragons, don't dare bring up that idea!

FatherDante 04-18-2001 09:42 AM

Oh man, oh man alive, Tyhm, that sounds like more fun than a barrel full of monkeys!! :D I could just imagine being the lucky one that gts to go "RooaARR!" While everyone else whacks on him!

Not that I'd want to be the dragon, I'd rather observe. :)

04-18-2001 01:22 PM

YES

grim_squeaker_x 04-18-2001 06:43 PM

Blah.

If I saw that dragon instead of trying to shoot him with m bow I'd run away as that has proven to be a safer way of dealing with dragons.

Rekad 04-29-2001 05:08 AM

Q Tip

being the Dragon, I would have more fun that a kitten with a q tip, but I think the dragon should be able to do some really cool things that will make people wanna kill it, like make it fly around like the airship--err... I mean spaceship on oldmain but it could shoot fireballs at levels and the level would be hit randomyly with fire and then it can fly down so players can see it and attack

GexGecko 04-29-2001 09:43 AM

Yah...

It should be able to burn playerhouses, etc. down. Then I'd crush all graal! It needs a revamp! And everything else is/would be boring!
