[Custom] Inside House

A customized design inside of a house. Big thanks to Dusty for all the tiles he's contributed!

Finished Update:

Tricxta 08-03-2012 10:07 AM

Those rug tiles look really out of place, and you only just get away with the floor tiles.
Level wise I see nothing to complain about it other then it being bland.

Edit:saw the door *oh my*

Imperialistic 08-03-2012 10:28 AM

None of the tiles seem to flow together, very poor effort.

PrinceDark 08-03-2012 11:14 AM

The level is alright except two things. Top right corner those tiles look messed up. And two the floor tile graphics don't look good. The house interior design is ok.

ff7chocoboknight 08-03-2012 12:37 PM

Why is such a large level so empty?

What do you mean the rug tiles are out of place?

Non-helpful comment, useless argument.

I was thinking about getting rid of the random clutter near the door as well.
However, you don't think the wood tiles fit in?

Next time I will only make a level where you can only walk straight up and down.

Well, he has a point. It's a common mistake to make your levels way too big. Imagine you being inside this room, shifting proportions from your own body to that of a Graal character. Huge, isn't it? What for?

Brilliant job on the tiles - I like it a lot.

Excellent job, I'd like to see the level with a few lights in too if you have time?

Kamaeru 08-03-2012 06:47 PM

Very good job using tiles for their intended purpose.
Don't listen to these guys saying that it was too big, it's not.
If you were to try and proportion inside levels to be realistic in size you would get something very funny looking.
The way you did it is superb and functional--exactly as it was done in A Link to the Past, which the tiles are obviously based on!
Whatever Nintendo did with the tiles is the right thing; Nintendo created the format to function a particular way.

No matter how much nicer than this a level could be made to look, none could be done more proper. You are a better level designer than the naysaying posters in this thread.

Don't generalize, please. Also, it's obviously not too big anymore now that he has put something in that empty space. You can't deny it was before, though.

I'm terribly sorry, but I don't think that'll work out. Give it a shot.

I shrunk the level a bit more and happy with the results.

Indeed, I haven't even noticed that you reduced the size. I like it.

Final update, for this level:

ff7chocoboknight 08-03-2012 09:10 PM

Now there's a level I can idle in.

Well done pulling it together. Nice job :)

ff7chocoboknight 08-04-2012 12:27 PM

Reminds me of an old project I once worked on. Good job.

Matt 08-04-2012 04:19 PM

looks good ^^

Kamaeru 08-06-2012 06:35 PM

I see your point about it being a bigger space than the player needs to walk around in.
But, level tiles are ultimately to be put together to create a level (duh), which has two functions:

1) Playing in

2) Looking at

And both are important. Nintendo developers at EAD would chuckle at your ideas of minimizing level size for purposes of functionality, and the main reason is that your tiny functional levels take up a fraction of the screen and don't give you anything to look at or potentially explore unknown secrets.

I understand that content density is what you're going for, but content density does not mean leave most of the level black.

(this is directed at Crow)

This guy's levels are the jam and you guys are just jealous.

Crow 08-06-2012 06:55 PM

I didn't even say that he should make it as small as possible. I only said it was too big. He actually reduced it in size and added more content, which helped a lot.

Also, jealous? I don't want to act arrogant or anything, but I don't think I have any need to be jealous.

I checked it out; it was a straight-up suck fest.
Try less hard next time, or play Alttp again.

Do you see the guys over there? *points towards the horizon*
You know, the ones with the "Don't feed!" signs. I wonder what they're for. Hmm...

xXziroXx 08-06-2012 07:03 PM

I like your second level, Shadow, but my ideal level has little to no unused space.

Best level I've ever seen: http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...78&postcount=7

This one was a bit tricky. The level was needed to be elevated by the stairs. Thoughts on this one? :p

I lost all respect for you with this post. It's quite selfish to have a boner for yourself while bragging and not even to mention that the level you referenced is ~2 years old.

I feel like proving a point that way is alright. If it's not, well.. I don't really give a damn what you think about that. Kamaeru said we were jealous. I said I wasn't. I then linked a level I created. That's all I really did. If you can't take that, something's wrong with you.

xXziroXx 08-06-2012 11:08 PM

I think your floor tiles doesn't go along with the wall tiles at all. They're nice, but they just don't match.

Guess that's the second time you lose respect for someone this week huh.

Cubical 08-07-2012 01:35 PM

Hiiiii everyone

Kamaeru 08-07-2012 05:35 PM

I would try making the south wall in the bottom area of your level match the rest of the walls! The way it is now makes it look the there is no wall there, or that the wall is diagonal so that you couldn't see it (I know that neither are the case). You could either increase the size of the level (which appears to be a dungeon-esque level so that wouldn't hurt it especially if there were supposed to be enemies), or your could make the south walls upper and lower joined.

On another note, sweet level!
