new server

a year and a half ago the server was ont he east coast and my ping (from europe) was 150-180ms, then it moved and it became 200-250...now it moved again and it's 250-300....
it's not only me, everyone is having problems with this and the worst part is that every 30seconds or so there's just a big warp fest (due to lag spikes) with bullets flying everywhere and no chance to dodge them

Dragon551 05-07-2012 01:42 AM

Go on...

BlueMelon 05-07-2012 02:05 AM

Its moved again? How do you know o-o

It's a weird day when I am on the same page as bloodykiller, but I have to admit that I've been discouraged from logging in these days for the reason that it seems every time the machine hosting Era and the like is changed, my ping just goes higher and higher. Whatever the move, it's not helping. Literally the opposite in fact.

Crono 05-07-2012 02:03 PM

i believe the playerworlds on PC were moved to the west coast (really dumb thing to do) while the iphone servers are being kept on the better south (dallas, texas) servers

I'd love to hit whoever is behind this.

If the servers were on the west coast, the aussies would be very happy about it.

50.23.136.183 traces back to Minnesota and then it says "Host of this IP: [?]: iphone7-3.seattle.legende.ne"

Maybe I'm reading it all wrong?

Zodiac does report:
Quote:

Zodiac (Server): Crono 181ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 170ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 180ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 180ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 180ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 181ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 211ms
Zodiac (Server): Crono 170ms
When I use pingtest and point it at Washington I get 197ms while a test on Dallas reports 135ms. Then again showlag on iClassic also reports 180ms so I dunno man. :(

Tim_Rocks 05-07-2012 05:17 PM

Aw man, I hope Tk doesn't quit over this. I'm gonna be so sad :(

the server is so bad that even though it's closer to australia, their pings r getting higher too.
the server in dallas is bs, the only "decent" one they had was the one on the east coast which changed 12-18months ago

Felix_Xenophobe 05-07-2012 07:50 PM

pls move servers bak 2 europe

taylor 05-07-2012 07:57 PM

It's a pretty big difference for most players; my latency has at least doubled, as it has for many others.

We did an in-game poll a few days ago:

Since the server moved to Seattle, has your latency increased?

http://uploads.graalcenter.org/uploa...35.19%20PM.png

Obviously results are going to be somewhat biased toward the extremes, but I think it's clear enough that most players would prefer the server be hosted in Dallas.

Tim_Rocks 05-08-2012 04:41 AM

I don't know about you guys, but I'm probably going to lose a lot of sleep over Tk quitting. I'm just so devastated.

taylor 05-08-2012 08:07 PM

I agree ^

bloodykiller 05-08-2012 08:17 PM

i though u guys were of the theory that lag helps me pk

Fiberwyre_P2P 05-08-2012 08:55 PM

Whose decision is it to move the server?

I don't doubt the results are in the right ball park, but that looks like a leading question to me.

It's negligible. People have been complaining about it for a long time now.

bloodykiller 05-09-2012 02:45 PM

the ridiculous part is that every1 complains about how laggy era is and the servers keep getting worst. stefan should decide if he still wants to work with pc servers, otherwise he should consider selling graal or just the pc part of it

No doubt that there's a difference, but considering some servers don't rely on serverside related scripts a lot it will vary. I can see how it's a problem on Era, but on a server like Zodiac its a bit less noticeable. I do agree though, it needs to be moved back to Dallas...or preferably even the east coast. There's no reason why a game that has a majority USA/European playerbase would be hosted on the west coast where it should be on the east coast or south at maximum, which is the norm on competitive games.

On top of this we also had the server backup lag issues that a lot of players will confuse with this higher latency.

bloodykiller 05-10-2012 12:23 AM

new york is the same latitude as naples (almost at the very south of europe), therefore the north east or even eastern canada would be the best options.
server quality is also an issue though

Crow 05-10-2012 07:11 AM

It's pretty hilarious how I get better pings to my VPS, which is sitting in Phoenix. Actually, no, I guess that's rather sad.

This is how we're all connected (inter-continently):
http://www.submarinecablemap.com/

They definitely should go with New York if they want to please NA and EU the most.

taylor 05-10-2012 04:23 PM

California > All

Supaman771 05-11-2012 12:59 AM

Yeah uhh.. my average MS used to be 90-130, and would never jump even if I refreshed stuff.

Now it jumps between 100 and 200 constantly as a range... goes steady at 110 then switches to 180 and goes steady for awhile.

Demisis_P2P 05-11-2012 10:39 AM

Move the server to Australia.

new york or anything close to that would be the best option for everyone, and i doubt that there's a substantial price difference compared to the seattle servers (for servers of the same quality)

There isn't, servers are cheap in any of the major cities in the continental US.

i rly shouldn't be getting 250-300ping

Demisis_P2P 05-13-2012 02:39 AM

u shouldnt be getting anything except a bullet to the head irl. ur disgusting filth.

Demisis_P2P 05-13-2012 02:44 AM

I'm sorry that was over the top.

Damn, Tk's is even better than mine.
But mine is still pretty damn legit, and I've not gone under 150ms since the server change.
150-200 average now.
