"New Posts" Link Issue
 

Just kind of a minor thing, but when I hit "New Posts" to see what's new on the forums it always tells me that I need to wait 15 seconds between searches. Most of the time I haven't even been on the forums for hours prior.

Do we really need the 15 second timer anyway? We have like 30 active users.

I don't see anyone opening the gates of hell by refreshing the search a little more often... It used to be 30 secs and that was just brutal. Pls remove

Isn't this only for when browsing the forums without being logged in?

It only affects non-moderators. If you're a moderator in any forum, you don't have to wait between searches. For us mortals, it's quite annoying, especially when trying to do a real search (not just "new posts").

Also, "new posts" sometimes is cached or something—occasionally you can click it several times in a row and it still works. It's odd.

I thought this was just me clicking it too much and too fast. It's very annoying.

I suspected this before I posted, but dismissed it because I remember having the same restrictions (when it was 30 seconds) regardless of my moderator status. I've lost track of what changes around here, to be honest. Any changes are rarely announced :\

Searches must be limited because they take a lot of CPU time, however the "new posts" thing should not take that much time since it's not a full-text search. I'm not sure if these things can be configured independently.

Considering that only members can search, then considering that we only have very few active members on here, it should have no impact at all if you remove the wait time entirely.

So I guess this isn't getting fixed?

Change it to a 1 to 2 second wait time then.

I just open any threads I want to view in new tabs.
