Setting Comments via Script

The title says it all

Is there a way to set a players comments via script?

cbk1994 04-01-2012 02:25 PM

Unless a way has been added recently, no. I requested one a while back.

I do believe there is way. I remember it being done to my account on Aeon about a year ago. Ask one of their staff members with script access?

it's addressed in the thread already linked. It's possible to do this via opening the player account file, but giving the NPC-Server write access to player accounts opens the NPC-Server up to wealth of abusive abilities like changing staff rights and folder rights. It's reasonable to allow read access so you can retrieve comments, but there's no good practice way to write to comments

The NPC-server can no longer write to the accounts folder anyway, even if it has rw folder rights.

I think UN actually did have RW access to accounts from the NPC-Server for some pointless scripted comment viewer. Not sure if changes could actually be applied though.

I think at least one player had their account blanked out by NPC-Server rw access as well but maybe something else happened to him

Aren't comments saved in text files? If they are you could just edit the text files <3

They are, but they can't be modified via script:

That's completely pointless, since pretty much anybody can modify them through RC if they have the rights to ?_?

I'm saying that it's pointless not being able to set comments via script if you can do it using RC anyway.

It's not pointless at all, it's one of the few good changes they've made for security.

Your post was ambiguous. The reason you can't set them via script anymore is because the accounts folder can't be written to via script, which, as Ziro said, is good for security reasons.

I would like to see a proper way added to set a player's comments via script.
