cast change
so there's two levels of cast time now. wands cast time, spells cast time. this makes spells take longer to cast than ever. and now u can't spam spells. or quick cast although i don't mind that being fixed.
with this being said u need to be about .5 speed faster than your opponent to have enough time to cast a spell before you are hit by either a sword or heaven forbid a bow. and if u get poisoned GL casting anything. this makes being a mage in a pvp setting in close corridors impossible. and on a map still very difficult. the problem is everything interrupts a spells casting ( not to mention the chances of fumbling spells). including poisons affect. these interruptions can cause a character to freeze for multiple seconds allowing free shots and the loss of atleast half a mages hp. i've noticed the priests in the dungeon and the crypt still have this freezing problem when casting, however. they're spells still cast. my suggestion is. make the casting system more similar to the priests where the wands cast time is the amount of time the melee player or whoever/whatever can interrupt the spell. once the cast time of the wand is complete and the cast time of the spell itself begins it can no longer be interrupted? |
This was still an issue before casting time was added to wands. Adding a casting time to wands made it even more ridiculous to cast.
And I agree to this or some sort of fix to make mages be able to keep up with melee |
I would say remove cast time from the wands and only require a cast time for spells. I honestly do not understand why there is a cast time on the wands anyway.

Yeah I was a mage for like 6+years and with the addition of cast times on wands actually working I switched. It's hard enough as it is with people stacking resistances and getting off the cast especially when poisoned.

When casting time was broken so that all spells casted instantly when hotkeyed Mages were still unbalanced. When they had cast time fixed (which should have been done) they weren't given any buffs to match that.
I was the highest level Brigid priest for a few years, decided to go melee since it's really the only option that solves all problems of being a mage. |

I think that all animations of spells (for the most part, not earth to dust or some specific spells like Holy Word) should be removed.
When I imagined casting time I would have liked to have seen Holy Word's animation lasting 1.7 seconds had I been wearing a Wand of Sorcery or a sped up animation that lasts .5 seconds had I been wearing Wand of Agility, not 1.7 seconds then 2 seconds for the animation. |
Spell animations are what usually takes up so much time. But they do provide you with an early warning that indicates what kind of spell someone is about to throw your direction. So I don't think they should be removed.
If I recall correctly, casting time was added to wands because certain spells have short or non-existent spell animations. This allowed you to spam spells like magic bullet so rapidly that it just came down to whoever would dish them out first. It made fights really boring, and totally unfair for melee players. However, because casting times were added to wands instead of to spells that needed them, the duration of a cast is now the sum of both casting time and animation time. |
