V6 is great.

:) No lag, the f3 menu is great. The game opens up quicker, and i can play in full screen without random lag. I don't know what you guys did but V6 is great. But why are people saying it blows...?

Supaman771 02-14-2012 11:22 PM

It depends on your computer I guess, some people think it is awesome and others like me gain no benefit from upgrading.

Speaking of which, I freaking know there is a v6 client... can you get rid of the ****ing 10 second login message. It's a utter pain when you have to reconnect for something like a mining drill bug or a lend.

Tim_Rocks 02-14-2012 11:23 PM

Finally, someone said it.

At first I thought this would end up being a troll thread.

Kind of wish it was.

Yeahhh V5 runs much better

Demisis_P2P 02-15-2012 08:28 AM

V5 sucks.
As soon as everyone switches to V6 everyone can start using 256 different body part colors.
Also they can speed up some scripts to run at 60 frames per second instead of 20.

TheKing 02-15-2012 08:46 AM

The reason I don't use v6 is because of the horrible playerlist (f7). If that's changed into the v5 one (The white one that doesn't look like jumbled garbage) I would gladly upgrade to 6. And I agree with Rogue, please remove the v6 upgrade message.

Fiberwyre_P2P 02-15-2012 08:53 AM

I'd like to see screen recording fixed or removed from V6 :P other than that, it's pretty good.

Also 60 FPS would be awesome.

Press F3 and switch to external playerlist.
You can change the skin of the playerlist by changing your graal theme.
You can use any windowsblinds theme as a graal theme. Mine is a nice black one.

What Demisis, said. Sure, people are entitled to complain about it not being a default feature, but give it a break on the "That is the reason I won't upgrade" speech and go get a damn theme that suits yourself. Continue your campaign to make it default, but don't use it as "the only reason not to upgrade". /my2cents

TheLinkMan2002 02-15-2012 10:22 AM

how does one change his graal theme

That and the funny fonts are the reason why I can't stand it. Changing the theme doesnt address my major problems with it and it's more than just "OMG ITS DIFFERENT I DONT LIKE IT".

No doubt. Some server's haven't altered their scripts to fit V6 fonts, which in their defence is a stance to have functionality brought over from V5 font-wise as it is quite annoying at this time, although if I recall the whole idea of this font style change was to make fonts between Linux, Mac and Windows (most common OS's) uniform so they looked the same no matter what system you got on. So I don't hold out much hope for that to be "fixed", although Stefan does seem open to the idea due to it's lack of actual need for constant modifications/updating with new versions. But for those who play on servers that have conformed and don't have these font issues, I think it's ignorant to base their desire not to upgrade solely on "I hate the playerlist/menus".

Also, I'd like to ask one question: Why is this in the Era section? Is there something I am missing? Otherwise, I'll move it to the appropriate forum. Just wondering.

Don't think anyone is pretending that's the reason why others aren't upgrading, but it seems to be a common one.

There's also the fact that UDP is disabled with V6, an important feature among sparrers.

Emera 02-15-2012 07:41 PM

Maybe Graalians just don't like change! Jokes, but there's a lot of cool features with V6 that completely outranks V5 with.

There's no need to call "jokes" on that one, to be honest. It's a pretty obvious fact that change is not something a majority of Graal players take to very well at all.

It's great that the game is being made more efficient across all platforms, but what are these cool new features?

I'm very likely missing some things, but at the top of my head I can only think of new body colours (good but not an entirely new element to the game), the ability to change default walk speeds (which doesn't affect me as I use scripted movement), the ability to set an emoticon by a built-in function (which can be scripted, though pointless as it would become obsolete), the ability to offset chat. Minus the ability to use UDP with sword combat and it's worse off in terms of competitive gameplay.

I'm pleased from a developers perspective as I won't have to worry so much about client lag when scripting, and external windows being scripted rather than hard-coded will speed up the release of future versions, but from a players perspective it doesn't fill me with excitement.

tbh pointless (from the perspective of the user) changes is something no one likes on anything ranging from games to sites like youtube and facebook.

WillaWonka 02-15-2012 10:10 PM

instead of change... let's call it, new options. So that things like the GUI can be shifted between to gauge a person's preference.

cbk1994 02-16-2012 02:42 AM

It would be nice to see a good graphic artist develop some nice profiles for external windows. I don't think mimicking the OS is the right way to go—all the attempts I've seen have failed and just look like a cheap mockery of the original. Maybe it's possible to do it right, but I'm yet to see it.

im rly not an expert in this field but won't this kinda turn into a problem since many ppl have trouble staying at 20fps? i personally don't but i know that many ppl do due to poor computers

good thing, there r loads of tryhards who switch udp on and off after they lose. it becomes hard to know how soon before you have to shoot them, especially if ur already having to cope with euro lag

It's good to not have UDP where the main combat is projectiles yes, because they are communicated from player > server > players via the normal TCP, while player coordinates are communicated directly from player > players via UDP, without the server acting as a relay.
It's because of this time difference that UDP definitely would cause some confusion on a guns server, or even a server with serverside sword-based hit detection. It would be good to be able to force disable it in Era's case, whereas it's a useful tool for a traditional sword combat server.

bloodykiller 02-19-2012 10:39 PM

ya there shouldn't be an option to turn it on/off
i know of people (i.e. luke######) who abuse of this all the time, they definitely need to change it now since loads of ppl r finding out how to abuse this on here lol

What I'm saying is that there should be a server option to disable it regardless of a players selection.
Though with it being removed from V6 this would end up redundant anyway, unless this was implemented:

bloodykiller 02-20-2012 05:06 PM

if sum1 is using v6 against me i can still turn on UDP (considering i'm on v5, as many others still are)
this is rly just a reason not to change to v6

But for those of us who are able to maintain 20+ fps, why not?
My guess would be that it wouldn't have any effect on people whose computers can't go beyond 20 fps, they would just stay where they are, where those with modern computers can enjoy the benefits of them.

bloodykiller 02-20-2012 10:39 PM

i agree, screw the poor hail the rich
