Ammo Mods

I think Ammo mods would be a cool way to change up the standard two guys shooting each other with 20 damage guns that do basically the same thing with only slight differences. This would effect Sparring, PKing, Events and Raiding. Basically anywhere you would use a gun ;P

Ammo mods would add positive AND negative effects to your gun. Obviously, only one would be active at any one time.

Some examples of ammo mods that I thought of:

High Caliber Ammo:

+Bullets travel 25% faster

-Reduces spread by 50%

Armor Piercing Rounds:

+If the target has armor: bullets do 75% damage to health AND armor

-If the target doesn't have armor: bullets do 1 less damage

Flechette Ammo:

+Causes targets to critically bleed

-Bullets do 75% damage

Incendiary Ammo:

+Lights targets on fire, causing damage over time.

+/-Anyone (including you) that the target touches can also be lit on fire

Glaciated Ammo:

+Bullets slow down targets by .01 speed for 3 seconds

-Freezes your gun if you shoot too frequently, which makes you unable to fire for 3 seconds

Ghost Ammo:

+Bullets pass through targets, while still doing damage

-Each time a bullet passes through a target, it's damage is reduced by 5

Rubber Bullets:

+Bullets can bounce off a wall ONCE

-You can be hit by your own bullets

High Density Ammo:

+Bullets slightly knock back targets

-Each shot you fire pushes you back and bullets have a significantly shorter range

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some ways the actual method of applying ammo mods could work:

-Buy a mod from a gun/ammo store that applies the effect for a certain number of shots

-Buy a mod from a gun/ammo store that applies the effect to the gun permanently (until a new one is applied)

-Buying special ammo (player presses a key, menu pops up, player chooses which ammo type they want to use)

I love it, the only issue (I think, I'm sure Vimes will correct me if I'm wrong) is the current gun system isn't flexible enough to do something like this. But I would love to see this. Also, I don't really think Ammo Mods should be allowed in spars, just sayin.

Or event's really, could you you imagine everyone using ghost ammo in ULMS / or captain spar?

RogueShatterblade 12-04-2011 04:09 PM

ohey can we have perks too like deep impact and last laugh thatd be rilly cool

Andre2006 12-04-2011 06:03 PM

I like the ghost bullets I'd use those for sure.

I thought guns were balanced for a reason?

Ghost/Rubber would be straight overpowered or 'lame'.
High Density/Flechette/Armor Piercing would be redundant or practically useless.
The ice one would be really useless, .01 is really nothing whilst your gun would randomly freeze. Perhaps if the effect stacked on itself (get combo-ed and hit 4 times, it would reduce speed by .04 for 12 seconds).
Fire one would be hilarious.
But who would use anything besides High Caliber? That's two +'s, and guns are already lame enough to make perfect walls.

months ago this staff team said they were working on gun attachments, lmao..this involves too much work for them, even opening a shop or adding hats to current shops (as promised) seems very hard for this staff team

I don't recall that, It would be cool to have an update like that, but it's not priority.. I'm working on a tutorial for Era, it's pretty adorable.

I would be rather interested if I could be allowed to see this sometime before release, perhaps as a form of beta tester?

Gun attachments are easy. We already have silencers for certain guns, maybe I could design some more. I want to implement a kill award system where you can obtain special mods for your weapons and actually personalize them to your fittings (less spread, slightly more damage, bullet travel speed)

Just need ideas on how it would work/ how players would obtain attachments

If this is really going to happen, please and I cannot emphasize this enough, but DO NOT GROW TOO ATTACHED TO ATTACHMENTS, DO NOT BECOME ANOTHER BORDERLANDS 1 WHERE THE ENHANCEMENTS AND ATTACHMENTS BECOME THE ENTIRE DAMN THING, GYAAAAH! !pissed!

wtf is the use of a silencer on era? xD there r no mini maps lol

iPaul 12-05-2011 09:14 PM

Yeah also make Nuke ammo so era is now ruined

Silencers especially wouldn't work, you can just edit sounds in your Graal folders you know?
Same with any tracer rounds or whatever... my bullets are already pink glowing balls of awesomeness.

There is technically a mini-map.
But I know what you mean, this ain't a fps.

jkldogg 12-08-2011 07:32 AM

Ghost ammo is the best, epic.

This doesn't unbalance guns, anyone would be able to buy these "mods".

silencers are used to not be seen on a mini map, there's no hud on era so itd be worthless, and yeah u could just change ur sound but u dont rly have an advantage anyways if ur gun is silenced..i alternate playing with/without volume and there r no differences

BlueMelon 12-08-2011 06:51 PM

This is a pretty decent idea imo. Would cause a shiit storm tho.

many of fiber's ideas r good but there r 2 big problems:
1. staff duznt work well together usually and this sounds like too much work for them, so i dnt think itll happen =(
2. there r WAY bigger problems, how the fk can u add silly things like the santa shop instead of actually implementing a real gang system, era is revolved around gangs and no1 is raiding now for obvious reasons

bioboi 12-08-2011 10:33 PM

Era needs to have less not more, the only time I ever enjoyed Era and thought it was successful was back in the day of 4 to 6 guns or so. There's more types of guns on the server then people.

bloodykiller 12-09-2011 12:50 AM

that's silly, everyone enjoys new guns to have a better selection and vary, in order to avoid monotony
was era more fun 5 or more years ago? yes certainly, but it was also more fun 6months ago

WillaWonka 12-09-2011 12:53 AM

Just like Alf released 2 AUGs, And they were never heard of again...

bloodykiller 12-09-2011 12:55 AM

yeah alfonso dislikes auctions for some reason..it's a pity he also hates gangs cuz these used to be the 2 most enjoyable activities on era

Sure everyone likes shiny and new things, but it's not what's best for the server. With more "rare" and "new" items released it takes away from what Eras core goal is (PKing/Raiding/Sparring), and puts too much focus into economy, which in itself causes more problems, then fun it adds into the server. With fewer guns there's more balance, realistic and accomplishable goals for new players, and old players alike and it really gives justification to those who think they're "great" players because everyone is on an even playing field.

Not to get on topic, but what does the number of guns on era have to do with my idea about ammo mods?
