Show your work ;)

Yeah I didn't feel like seeing if there was a thread like this.
Made a level after 2 years or so of not doing so

Lets see yours :)

Why is gaben watching?

Anyway, nice level - neat floor pattern and great symmetry overall.

weeway 08-31-2011 06:40 AM

Thanks :) And this level is for a GAT on UN, Gabe asked me to put a statue of him somewhere in the level, and that seemed like a fitting place for him.

Started a level but realized I wouldn't use it after I finished so I'll post what I've done.

EDIT: I might have been cheating a bit, I was using Dusty's layer tileset.

I feel as though someone has to post a bad level so I'll be that someone... behold!

It's not bad! I suck at cliff tiles aha.

Seen worse. You got some errors in your cliffs though.

This thread in addition to my boredom forced me to make a level at gunpoint.

Vertical bridge sucks balls.

That is actually a simple but great level. Very Zelda-eque. Only complaints would be the lack of grass detail when you move away from the trees and the potential of trapping someone on top of that cliff if you were ever to expand on the level.

Two of my very favourite levels I've created in the past - I really enjoyed re-vamping Bravo Online too !!

maximus_asinus 08-31-2011 09:10 PM

Second screenshot is still just as great as it was a few years ago when it was posted. You're still the best LAT IMO.

PhantosP2P 08-31-2011 09:21 PM

You guys are wonderful LATs, but why is it I never see anyone using a custom tileset? It's impossible to make a level on Valikorlia without some sort of doctored up set of tiles.

I want to steal your fundamentals :)

weeway 08-31-2011 11:08 PM

Thoughts?

Why use a custom tileset when the default is so eye-opening and beautiful?
*end sarcasm*

Also, @weeway, it looks pretty good, but too much symmetry bothers me. That's just my perspective though.

You should get rid of the symmetry. Otherwise, neat.

Technically Wan and myself were using custom tilesets, be it minor tweaks for variation's sake.

If someone were to continue Dusty's project of developing a transparency-for-layers tileset based on default you could do pretty much anything you want without making other custom tiles. Graal fully supports layers with V6, if we could just get an artist to push tilesets into the next generation that would be awesome.

maximus_asinus 08-31-2011 11:34 PM

Oh and ignore Regretz, he can't LAT with default so he hates on it.

DustyPorViva 08-31-2011 11:35 PM

My tileset was customized, but I didn't end up using it to its fullest capability.

...You mean facerolling on the keyboard isn't how I'm supposed to LAT?
Dangit. I knew I was doing something wrong.

I think of these messy and chaotic style levels as being a substitute to compensate for genuine creativity when it comes to things like clever use of NPCs, interesting characters, entertaining say2 messages etc, which I consider to be the things that really bring a level to life.
I realise there are those that do consider it to be creative, which is strange because these levels are mass-produced and don't deviate much.

WanDaMan 09-01-2011 12:54 PM

They look horrible; I hate the castle border tiles being used together (the big & small ones).

Now I feel obligated to finish. I love tiling but I can't bring myself to create something and never use it and it isn't like anyone else can unless they use Dusty's tileset.

As long as it's fun it's cool. I still make some levels from time to time, and they never end up being used. I just do it for fun.
