Medieval Level

This is supposed to be a study. I have already had some good feedback off Kavan, Trimaster and Callimuc, but I was wondering what you guys think? I am trying to brush up on my leveling. Please leave feedback! The notice board and the paper graphics are made by me too.

Looks pretty good so far, maybe add some mossy grass on sides of some walls.

NO? It is a study, and a tidy level, not a place that moss can grow up the walls.

Way too dark, I can barely see it on my monitor.

You can adjust the lighting in there by saying /light <number from 0 - 1>
I am publishing a short 10 second film on youtube so I can show you the level. I have also adjusted the brightness of the level on youtube also.

Why are there puddles of water all over the floor?

It looks like the part in A Link to the Past when you go through the sewers behind the king's throne with the princess.

Ok? Any fool can see they are carpets. And what is that?

Yea. Tons of deformed carpets. Stop repeating the mistakes others show you.

0PiX0 08-29-2011 08:29 PM

The edge tiles for the carpets make it seem like the carpet was created in the shape that you create. I think the carpets need to be symmetrical or define a certain path in the level.

If you have a day/night system, maybe add some windows with light shining in during the day, rather than using the '/light' chat command.

PhantosP2P 08-29-2011 08:32 PM

I think the carpets would work if they were a red color, it is a passionate shade whereas blue makes me sorta sleepy. Libraries / studies tend to have heavy carpets to dampen noise, so good thinking there. The general layout seems good to me, I sort've want to use it for a mage guild now.

I really quickly made two very dodgy light beams, but they really aren't suitable for what I am trying to accomplish with the window effects. I am also fixing the carpets and I see what you guys mean now. Has anybody got any light beam images they are willing to spare me?

I was planning on renting a server actually. I don't know if I can afford it yet, but I had something like this in mind. Although, a few other ideas to go with it.

Or you could come work on Val :)

Here are a bunch of windows (and a few light images) from Val.

What tileset is that? It seems so familiar.
I'd like to see the bookcases all the same size (Width) with some wall breaks in-between, cause it's a bit too much 'wood' everywhere and looks like the walls are made of bookcases.

As said previously the carpeting could be improved. And I don't understand why every table has to be encased in chairs, especially that tiny thing in the middle where the table is the size of a chair.

Anyway I think the only way you can better this level other then what the others have said is work on the actual shape of the level and have it less symmetrical. Where the wall jerks out a bit on the side does add interest to the level but I think you've put it out a bit too much, so work on the shape and make the parts where it move out a bit more subtle. Other then that it's a neat level :)

Sure thing. Work on the shape. And thanks <3

Do you think tileset is a suitable tileset for starting off a medieval server? I have a few ideas, like I mentioned in another post here. I might make a new thread on this topic actually.

ff7chocoboknight 09-02-2011 04:54 PM

The tileset is fine.

Volken 09-05-2011 04:48 AM

it looks like some esteria tiles :O

Volken 09-05-2011 04:49 AM

but i like the level :D

patrickp2p 09-05-2011 06:54 AM

I agree with the others, I can't see it on my comp (well I can but barely :P), and I think you should look at medieval walls and the structure of it, this theme is also overdone. Maybe create something new? :) (Also, you should change the carpets to a circular shape and add more texture, unless it was in a castle or something ,they should be mix matched).
