Alright boys, it's time.

I think we need to bring the old forums back, or at least the concept of them. God only knows where Curtis is, so I've decided I'll step up to the plate to get this started. It's important to note that this isn't a strike against the official forums (it absolutely has its place), and if I'm breaking a rule by suggesting a counter to these forums, I apologize in advance.

I know all the old dogs remember the good times and epic threads that went down on that forum. Personally, I think it stimulated the activity - and any way we can head in that direction on the server I'd like to see happen.

I'm willing to chip in USD to make this happen. Who of you out there is familiar with administrating?

You could do this:

1. Pick a piece of PHP Forum Software. I.e: phpBB, SMF.
2. Get free hosting at 000webhost and setup the software.
3. Get a free .co.cc or .tk domain to point to your host.

If you want to drop actual money on it you could then:

5. Migrate to a different web host (I.e: Dreamhost, Site5). They typically offer a free domain name upon registration as well.

why would you pay for your own section on a dead forum

Although the separation from the Graal forums to an independent forum site could be a good addition to Era, why don't you save the money and hassle of buying a domain and setting everything up, and take after UnholyNation and the idea of their in-game forums. I am sure that your scripters have the skill to make some in-game forum idea come to life as good or even better than UN's and would be easily accessible to the whole of Era without having to even open a web browser.

I can't for the life of me find that screenshot I took years ago (Probably the problem, long gone or named something stupid like "lol") when Curtis responded to one of Kinetaro's long-winded posts with something along the lines of "I've been rolling it around in my head for a while and I've come to the conclusion that you are in no way an interesting person...". Good times.

Anywho, nothing new has happened to Era. It's been the same story as always: 20,000 managers before the year ends, each with their own views on "What will fix Era" which then conflict with the next manager's thoughts on "What will fix Era". Same thing, different year.

Hard to say that it stayed the same, lol. If anything it seems like it has gotten a little worse. They definitely could use a bit more creativity.

Well, by "the same", I mean it's been the same problem. It's just exponentially grown as a problem and therefore the results of these problems has exponentially grown as well. As for CEO of Graal, nope. I was in charge of the PWA and Accounts at one point, but short of moving to France and getting a real pay check to start my own bread-buying and coffee spilling employment, I think that's about as high as an average one of us lowly players can hope to get in the structure.

Yikes. Do you still even work on Era? If anything I wanted to try and get back on to help bring it back to its glory days, if that's even possible.

Definitely sit back and watch my old game gradually slide down the gutter. :(

I was a PR on Era up until about 3 weeks ago, maybe 4. I've lost track of time exactly. A lot of stuff has happened since then IRL so I never took much notice.

the unofficial forums were terribly bugged, many people (including myself) were not able to sign up for some strange reasons. doesn't surprise me they miserably failed

Two USD would be enough to get you started on a simple webhosting plan. Then just use phpBB or SMF.

I'd honestly be happy to throw that tiny sum of money into the mix if people are going to use the forums. I'm not really getting a clear picture of if it's a good idea or not from the posts here though. I'd also need people to moderate the forums and also keep thing updated and in check.
