Personal Uploads

I stole the script from FP4 Zodiac, but then added it to work on Era iPhone the server

HTML Code:

http://loginera1.graalonline.com:8080/submit.html
The code is converted from PHP > GScript (will release at the weekend maybe- for other iDevice worlds, it will be on iClassic shortly)

fowlplay4 04-11-2011 11:12 PM

I freely gave you it, not sure why you said stole. The form could use an HTML update, and some CSS though.

Interested in the GS2 functions Stefan made to set the transparencies.

cbk1994 04-11-2011 11:12 PM

Shame it's not running on Grattpd, the world's best GScript webserver.

xAndrewx 04-12-2011 08:16 AM

HTML Code:

function onReceiveDataPackage(newdata) {
  temp.lines = newdata.tokenize('\n');
  //Fancy stuff
  fiximagetransparency(str) (returns boolean - set's all pixels which match the upper left corner to transparent, I think you'll need a restart for this)
}

Before I release it all, I'll ask Stefan if its ok to add it to the code gallery

I'm not sure yet if we should post the http-server code. Please no questions on the price if you don't really plan to submit graphics (I'm sick of people complaining about other people buying something in Graal).

fowlplay4 04-12-2011 04:23 PM

If it's being used as a 'sink' after it's sunk enough money the cost should be lowered as well. It made sense to charge more for a tedious manual process but now that it's almost entirely automatic the price should reflect that.

Keep in mind, It's hard for any PC player to support the monetization of a feature that's been free for many years. Especially considering the fact that the player has to put in the time to make the graphic as well.

There's already an HTTP server posted in the Code Gallery. I just wanted to see what function you used to set the transparencies on the graphics. Perhaps you could add a function to fix the body palettes (I.e: gif2mng.exe /b image.png) as well.

What if you're somebody that has actively been working on an established Graal project for 4 years straight, and are concerned for the sake of that project that the pricing strategy across Graal globally may be detrimental in the long run?

Stefan will be concerned about playerworlds when there isn't anymore being made.

Stefan, we have a right to know the pricing, as A.) Some of us play Iphone Era B.) Many of us are your employees.

You fail to see that playerworld staff are more important to Graal than you are. When a newbie comes onto a server, it's not you that shows him around spending hours doing so. It's not you dealing with the complainers. And it's certainly not you creating the servers. Your failure to see playerworld staff as employees will unfortunately, hurt you. We are the bridge for the new players to come and enjoy Graal. Quit thinking your above everyone.

Andrew, please put iPhone- at the start of all of your Era threads. That would solve some problems, anyways :)

You don't even play Era, why do you care?

I do, and i know many others do. When i logged on UN after their reset a few years back, i forgot where all the quests were. A staff member walked me through everyone. Thats the type of behavior that gets new players attached.

I can guarantee you no pr member on era has ever spent more than a few minutes helping a new player

I'll do it if the price is right.

I've actually helped a couple players when I was staff. I even gave some random new player my GG to give them a small start in the game. It's really the little things.

That's what a PR is for right..?
That's what they've been hired for, for the past 2 years at least.

That's what they're hired for, but they only do that part of the job for the first week then they just idle on tag and only worry about trade logs and scams. I never see prs helping new players, ever.

papajchris 04-14-2011 05:55 PM

I can't speak for the current PR's, but when i was a PR, i use to PM every person under 30 hours a welcome message explaining things, and if they didn't respond (I assumed this didn't know how to use pm's) i would warp to them and talk to them in person. I was going to assign the PR's accounts to PM frequently (ex: Zoo might have had accounts starting with A-C). However, considering 90% of the accounts are graal#### i never really assigned it. But the point is, the PR's can and will do it, IF the PRA asks them too. Sometimes a PR cant think of new ways to help players. Heres a couple things i have done/seen done:

-PM new players
-Look for people who are new and introduce yourself as a PR (NOTE: Not everyone knows a PR is a staff member!)
-Walk around the mines/beach and talk to players who are making money the honest way
-Hand out small amounts of money to new players to purchase an AK or simply ammo. (I know many staff who have done this, and that is why its a lie when people say all staff are rich, i never had money)

Theres plenty of things to do, the PRA just needs to communicate with his team.

Donark 04-15-2011 03:02 AM

ya... prs don't do that now.

Is this based on experience or just what others say? I helped out new players even before I was staff because someone did it for me when I was new. ^^

...and I can speak for the staff now. They are a helpful group that know their community and it's needs, and that includes helping new/old players.
please note that in this case old is a relative word :)

I love this so much it was a great idea. I can finally get my music shield uploaded!
