another level
I took what you guys said, and tried to use it in the making of an island.
http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/...ri/island1.png again, any tips or critisism welcome :) |
you used the wrong tiles for the cliffs (sides)
EDIT: You know you can post everything in one same thread, right? |
Its all 3 colors... brown, green, and blue. And theres really no texture at all, the tree is plain, the water is flat, the grass is flat, the roof is flat. Also the windows look like a totally different wood than the rest of the house and look out of place.
There are all mostly tile problems, not level problems though. In the level, the cliff sides look wrong and it seems to be just a random house on a mountain with no purpose. |
Okay thanks :D
And I think I'll do that Soala... Now I'm gonna make a pics1.png level, see if it's any better |
The grassy areas look a bit empty, perhaps make a sand path leading from the house to the cliff edge?
|
thththE Cliffsfsfs SUCK!
dedeeetailing is awfuullllll! |
I was gonna upload some pics1.png levels, but I forgot...
Anyone want me too? |
sure why not
|
I'll work on it tomorrow
In the mean time, we fixed up the island. I like it more. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/...land1-edit.png |

I think you're relying too much on the same decorations to fill too much space. You pretty much have nothing but a huge green field filled with nothing but mushrooms and flowers. It doesn't look natural. I don't know if this is a problem with your tileset or with your methods. I would like to see what you're capable of with default pics1, or some more complete variation before I say more about your techniques.
|
Well-
http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/...level-pic1.png i'm honestly not sure of myself on this one. don't bad-mouth the path, I lazied out and decided to use the path generator NPC ~~EDIT Just realized a few more details I could've done too make it better. |
You need to use edges more. Layer your grass, it looks flat and unrealistic.
|
Needs a vocal point. Maybe more importantly, needs a purpose. I suppose the vocal point would follow from that.
|
Go beyond a single level canvas and make a small GMAP (2x2), perhaps a town setting or an accessible house on top of a mountain with paths leading up to it.
|
Don't throw in random detail for the sake of detail.
Like the....idk what they are called, leafy shoot things. They are everywhere! Don't fill in space with nonsense for the sake of taking up space. :P (Give that space a purpose, or at least fill it in with detail that makes more sense. Blocking roots everywhere doesn't help anyone.) |
Everything has been noted :D
Fowlplay, I think i'll try the town/small gmap idea, when I'm done I'll post it, and a link to a nifty gmap creator I found somewhere on the forum. ~~~EDIT Here's the first level of 4 for a tiny gmap http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/...ap-forum-1.png |

And you need much more detail. I don't like the grass around the house much, it seems odd that grass would go around a house like that exactly. Overall Rating: 2/10 Why? You used SOME detail, but I think you can improve. :) |
Personally I like the lack of detail, It's rather quaint, though the major issue is the house... It looks rather bleh, Like I can see a welcome mat right there on a wooden ground. Other than that I agree about the top left corner :P
|
Heh... The left corner is um... I forgot that part XD
I didn't scroll far enough, same with some of the dirt I see what you guys are saying now, I think I'll finish this one up later and then keep going |
Might want to take into consideration that half of these people are used to UN style of "****-leveling"
Plus I'm sure very few have actually ever designed a server or any level with a unique leveling style. |
