Your ideal server?

What would your ideal server be like for whichever genre you like playing? RPG, Classic, Modern, RP? or whatever other genre you can think of.

Mine would be a RPG in which you can either level through quest or by grinding levels.

I would also like it if there were no hard cap when it comes to leveling ex; When leveling to lets say level 60 it is fairly easy but after 60 there is a dramatic drop off in exp per level but not to the point where you can no longer level. If someone wants to nerd it up and kill things that give very very little exp to level up and get a few more stats then they should be able to. It should take days of grinding to get an extra level.

As much as I like having overpowered rare items I wouldn't want 2 or 3 overpowered items distributed throughout the server like on kingdoms, I'd rather have an item that adds one or two stats more than whatever the best weapon currently obtainable through grinding or questing. It would keep people from whining and prevent people from getting a significant advantage.

Now for dungeons, I'd want dungeons to have different modes and the harder the mode the better the loot but the harder the monsters. All party dungeons would be instanced and all solo dungeons would be pk zones. As for bosses, they should all have stages and during each stage the party should have to do something specific to keep from wiping like run behind something or stack on each other. The whole party must be on their toes the entire boss fight and doing whatever they are supposed to be doing ex healing, tanking, dpsing ,kiting or whatever. When the boss fight is over there should be rolling on loot, need or greed is mandatory. You also shouldn't be able to need on something you already have or use unless everyone in the party already has it or cant use it.

Pking shouldn't have an auto target or have any auto hit skills which imo is really lame. I like running around and dancing trying to avoid people, not just spamming hotkeys when i get close enough.

Stats should be player added, if a warrior wants to put everything in str and vit and none in int then he wont last long when he can't use any skills. Same goes for mages, if they want to put everything in int and nothing in vit then they can deal massive damage but die in very very few hits.

Events are also a must because i love playing ctf on any server and teaming up in pk events.

Guild/Nation forts would also be mandatory because nothing is more satisfying than going into a guild fort with just 2 or 3 of the people in your guild and taking down 6-10 of the enemy and capturing the fort. Some of my favorite graal memories were going into inuia or tralitai with keith and nate and doing just that.

I'm sure a few of you know where I stand when it comes to overworlds, I don't like big overworlds because it spreads the players out too much so an ideal overworld would be 12x12.

I'm sure there's more because my ideas are endless but i'm all jittery and jacked up on instant coffee.

Anyways, how would your ideal server be for whatever genre you enjoy playing

I approve of more or less every single point, rep ++. I think you'll be glad to know that the majority of said things are in place or in creation for Maloria. :)

Maloria has and probably always will be my favorite server. Most of those ideas were based off of time time I spent there.

Hmm, not gonna bother with my ideal classic server since I've attempted that. I'll go with RPG.

A little while ago I was going to make a small RPG "demo server." It wasn't going to much, but it was going to be fully functional. The whole reason for this was to create the base of what I thought my ideal RPG server would be, even if it wasn't an actual full server. I had some basic ideas laid out, but in the end it all came down to putting actual effort into what I was doing. It seems nearly all the servers out there, no matter the genre, put as much effort to get what they want working and leave it at that. Where's the final touch? Where's the details?

First, I wanted to create a responsive combat system. This meant first creating mobs that were smooth clientside, yet secure and synchronized with the serverside. Then there was accurate hit-detection. I wanted players to feel the energy being put into a sword swing and see the response immediately. When you swung your sword all monsters in range would fly back, damage numbers would fly out and bounce around and then you'd finish them off with a nice combo. Why? Because **** like that looks awesome and that's what players want to see. They don't want to have to align their player so their single-pixel hit detection actually hits the monster jumping around the level because it's serverside, even though they have a sword 3 times bigger than their own sprite. Then, finally when making the kill all the experience bursts from the monsters corpse and gets absorbed by your experience bar!

Anywho... then it's just about variety and giving the players options. Why only limit all the players to bash on the same level 5 monsters? Create a large expansive world so players can explore and do what they want. To be honest, in WoW even though there were tons of the same retextured mobs, and tons of say, monsters all at level 5 I felt like I have options to choose from. Didn't want to kill wolves? Fine, I'll go over to this other part of the world and kill bandits. There were TONS of different places to accomplish the same goal, and I think this should be the DEVELOPERS goal. Even if the player ends up grinding, at least they don't feel like it's a grind, ya know?

On top of that, players like to show off. I think a huge key to an RPG server is to give players the chance to obtain things other players can't, or don't have the patience to obtain. In the end it makes them feel more accomplished even though what they did really wasn't much of an accomplishment at all, just a lot of grinding. Then they can go around and show off other players how cool they are and inspire them to want to be different too. However, if you do this you need to make sure there is enough out so all players aren't just looking the same.

Then it comes down to actual setting. Make the world beautiful and a joy to explore. You don't know how important this is. Players LOVE to come across some abandoned ruins to find out that it's infested with ghouls only to then come across a journal explaining the inhabitants demise and that they ARE the ghouls. Stuff like that is awesome. Backstory is a great way to keep players interested on the side. Exploring the world makes going from one grind to the next not so bad.

So... this was more of some mindless babble than anything, wasn't really organized. Don't forget the standard stuff like guilds and parties and all. In the end it just comes down to effort and attention to detail, and of course skill. No offense, but no matter how much effort you try to script and make graphics if you don't have the skill then it's not gonna be appealing. That doesn't mean you CAN'T have the skill, but that just takes more effort.

Hmm. My ideal server is actually completely different than yours, Cubical!
Mine would most likely evolve around the whole WWII theme, it would be a "modernish" server mixed with levels. Basically, take Zodiac and just replace all the weapons with old WWII weapons, and armor with camo's, etc.
Instead of having 3 nations, there would be 3 invented "countries", not going to choose out countries for obvious reasons. The main focus of this server would probably be on the wars that each country has; canons, sniping, boats, bunkers, etc. Each country would have a different theme, one would be 3rd world (Use those type of weapons; i.e. ak47, ak74, sniper, etc.), another country would be more of a city and use the more modern weapons (M16, M4, Sniper, MP5) than the other island would be a forst, with random villages and use the same weaps as the city country.
But! Some weapons require a certain level! You can level up by killing people, or by going on journeys, infiltrating enemy bases, capturing bases, doing favors for towns people. Quite simple.
When you level up, you gain stuff like Agility (Sprint longer, reload faster, change position quicker; crouch, prone) Strenght (Punch harder, hit people harder with your gun, move certain objects) Intelligence (Captute bases quicker, hack databases easier; infiltrating bases)
I mentioned armor earlier, but instead of having old fashioned armor, It would be Camo's, which add the above stats (there are more stats, just can't think right now).

And yeah.. that's pretty much it, I didn't mention PKing, Sparring, Events, but it's quite obvious for those.. you can't pk versus your own country, only against others. But, you can spar versus your own nation.

Oh, did I mention there are classes? Soldier, Medic, Scout, Sniper, etc. And yes! You have different characters, just like Zodiac, so you have the chance to try them all out! :D.
Note that certain weapons are restricted to certain classes, some weapons are not.

Well, that's my ideal server. :)

GK with decent playercount is my ideal server

My ideal server is a RPG Server can't go into details :(

Liberated 11-04-2010 03:29 PM

My ideal server would keep me entertained untill i die, and at the same time would make a real life copy of me to do all that boring irl stuff so i could play that server 24/7.

is on a different game.

Personally I'm both fond of Zodiac's game-play and Valikorlia's role-playing, but a combination of those would take a MASSIVE scripting team to create and run.

I'd actually like to see an action RPG server, an example would to be to take 2 player of battle toads from the SNES, like make your own rooms, have players pick a few characters pre-made(think character selection for a fighter game). You could make it a bit like alien swarm and make it where you level your account to where you can unlock equipment or even better don't and make the said servers gameplay last long enough to where you earn all the things you can while you play like in most action rpgs. Just something off the top of my head.

Sounds interesting. Bit lost since I've never played the game though. Before my time. ;)

Okay. Battletoads is a side scrolling coop action rpg where you have to play through the story beating the hell out of everything basically. Then you take the alien swarm lobbies, take choices of primary/secondary weapons, support items and etc etc depending on how the server would be created theme and all. Then as players would play through the server's content.

Honestly would like to see dusty at a project like the idea i've presented :)
