Feature Preview

This is basically just to show a few combined features that will be within future Quests on Classic, the level itself is not part of a quest although the tileset/theme is for an upcoming one.

maximus_asinus 09-21-2010 03:02 AM

that is very awesome, I have always wanted Classic to do this, even suggested it to Massokre when he was developing that castle quest.

Demisis_P2P 09-21-2010 03:47 AM

Looks really cool. :)
Do the switch and water have to be in the same level?
If not you could make puzzles where draining the water like that floods the level below.

It's not necessary although with it being in a separate level that raises the question of whether the filling/draining should be completed or just starting upon entering the level.

smirt362 09-21-2010 03:58 AM

Draining should probably be a bit faster, but very awesome.

kia345 09-21-2010 03:59 AM

That's beautiful

Demisis_P2P 09-21-2010 04:08 AM

I just wondered "what if you're in the water while it's draining".
Watched the video again to see that you already showed that. Nice touch.

fowlplay4 09-21-2010 04:16 AM

That's pretty cool, it's server-side right?

This isn't specifically although it's a possibility.

for effect it would look better serverside but it would be abused with players draining/flooding levels on newbies.

Seich 09-21-2010 04:32 AM

o.o That's pretty awesome...

Why not have it so "parties" can do the quests together an interact, but people outside the party won't affect it?

It's something you have to be careful in instances where the water level either applies across multiple levels or is necessary to be saved should you log out and then in again otherwise preventing progress, which mainly applies to standalone Questing, but it wouldn't be so much of a problem for quests that are designed to be multiplayer where the strategy tends to revolve around working as a group to travel from one level to another more so than individual wit.

Alure1316 09-21-2010 07:18 AM

Looks very good. I was going to ask if you would be hurt if you jumped down from the ladder, but you showed it in the video so... :D

Deas_Voice 09-21-2010 10:07 AM

looks neat, thought i think it should go faster, is it possible to use it as a cross-way? i mean, like, when it flooded, you can swim over to a platform, where you maybe drain the level or a chest there (you can't access this area while its drained)

I would assume so since at 0:05 in the video he is swimming where there are walls when the level is drained.

ah, yeah, well, hes just swiming there, but theres no areas where u can only access while flooded :)

Yeah but it should be possible.
The walls of that room look to be 5 tiles high. Flooding the room lets him swim over the bottom 3 tiles. So if he added a platform with a chest on it that was level with the water while the room is flooded then it should be possible to do what you're saying.
Watch where he gets on the ladder while the room is flooded.

Very cool and original but why you chose to make the water that weird looking green is beyond me.. also out of curiosity if you were to just sit in the water while it is draining would your position also be altered according to the depth level of the water?

Cosss 09-26-2010 02:08 AM

@Deceased It's in a sewer

Well there's no real implication that the setting is a sewer in my eyes.. looks more like a castle dungeon with a drain in the niddle if you ask me?

The video wasn't intended to imply that it was a sewer, more so just to show the features.

Standing water in a dark, implied subterranean room?

You mean like...

a sewer?

Cosss 09-26-2010 05:38 AM

I think he means a nursery.

that is what they look like

right?

DutchGuy 10-04-2010 12:36 PM

looks are outstanding.
idea isnt original though. The former castle quest had this type of stuff where you had to hit switches in order to flood and drain certain rooms to advance.
graphics are neat though.

The thing about the 2006 Castle Quest was that you never actually saw the water rising or draining, it's something you found once you left the level it was triggered from.

And now for something slightly different:

Again this level is not specifically part of a Quest (while the project this is intended for is progessing very nicely) but just for testing the concept which there are many possibilities it can be used for.

Yeah we've really been slacking the last 4 years, especially the first 3.986 of them that we haven't been working on this.

Crono 10-11-2010 04:36 PM

maximus_asinus 10-11-2010 04:37 PM

Crono 10-11-2010 04:38 PM

maximus_asinus 10-11-2010 04:47 PM

as long as it isn't like those other movies you made me co-star in...

ffcmike 10-11-2010 05:20 PM

Videos shall require the use of the paper bag head in future so other people can star but their identities remain anonymous to prevent arguing.
