New to level design...
Hey guys, I have decided to try my hands at level designing. I have experimented with some levels, but nothing amazing yet. Any good tutorials I should look at? A tutorial on how to do outsides of houses would be great. Also, to get opinions on levels here I just take a screenshot of them and post it, correct? Is there like a command to take a picture of a level because I am running on a netbook and the whole level can not fit in the area of a screenshot.
I hope someone can respond to this :noob: |
There's some limited info here,
http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=47045 with most of it still being relevant. To take a screenshot of a level press alt + 1 in the level editor while in "play mode". Really though, the best advice is always to keep practicing. |
From the level editor click "Play" then press Alt + 1 and choose a place to save the screenshot. Alt + 1 takes a screenshot of the entire level without the player in it. Alt + 2 will take a screenshot of the visible area including the player and other things (hearts, AP, etc).
As for tutorials, try this list. EDIT: Beat me to it, Crono :(. |
Thanks guys, you are truly the best :) attached is one of my first levels, although the darkness is set, it is not visible in the screenshot

I think you are doing great, if that is what your first levels look like. Just keep it up and soon you will be awesome :)

pretty neat for a first level :)
|
Fantastic, nicely done :D! Great job
|
Nice Job pi ;)

I like how even though this is your first level you've hand-detailed the floor -- that's good practice. It's also a good first level in general, but a shame that you've gone down this kind of style, though unsurprising and not really your fault.

Those chair graphics look like **** and nothing like the tileset The way you just use random tiles for your decoration removes any visual contrast between walls and floor and makes the latter look way cluttered Most people who make levels are ****, do not try to imitate them |
Thanks guys for all the feedback, I did the flooring like that because I have seen previous party levels with that floor. I will take that into consideration and possibly redo the flooring. Since some of my npcs are not visible in this level, the chairs are darker in game (dark red) I don't know if that matters.

Oh, and guys. Do you recommend buying a mouse? I'm using a trackpad, and I have noticed that I'm kind of slow with it. =P

Well, I'll get a mouse soon. I recently made some levels for Classic iPhone that have just been released. =D
|
I'm not very familiar with classic-style levels, but they seem too open.
|
I left a lot of space because usually around 400 people will be in these levels at a time =P but I should add more tables and stuff
|
UN corrupting LATs one year at a time. :(
|
UN style is just terrible.

I'm glad you bumped a thread to provide us with such an insightful post.
|
You're welcome.

I think classic levels should be smaller :O not cramped though, just smaller. Remember - you don't have to fill up the ENTIRE level editor screen xD Also, kinda unrelated, but I feel that there are too many players on there and its WAYY too laggy x.x
|
True Classic levels shouldn't really consist of that whole "Red Carpet, Brown House Bricks, Wooden Stakes, Castle Carpet Edges" style, UN corrupting LATs one year at a time like Crono said.
Still it's a nice level for what it is especially for a beginner, my suggestion to improve would be to more evenly spread out furniture/other objects, try not to over-crowd one area of a level while leaving the other side empty, makes a level look more visually pleasing to me. |
Well, when you really think about it, its actually kind of amazing for a beginners first or second level. Its also pretty lucky to be hired on Classic iPhone with no experience at all xD

Well I mean I worked with Stefan for like 3 years. I've made levels since the year 1999 on Graal. I'm known as one of the best level makers to play Graal.. a long with Wan, Bird, mmmmkay and others.
