Era HP Upgrades

Since the last reset there have been "quests" — little 5 or 10 minute roadblocks that you do after starting Era to get to 140 HP.

I've replaced the quests with a health leveling system. The way it works is that for each HP level you reach, your maximum health is increased by one point. The first level takes 25 kills. To get to the second level, you need another 36 kills, then 49, 64, and so on. The maximum level you can reach is 40 (for 140 HP), which requires a total of almost 20,000 kills.

To view the number of kills you need to reach the next HP level, say "/hp". There is also a yellow bar at the bottom of your health bar which shows your progress.

If this doesn't work out well, I will revert back to the quests. You won't have to do them again.

We will be hosting PK events all day to help start everyone off.

Rwawr, now Era is borrowing ideas from Atrius hehe

Supaman771 06-30-2010 05:09 PM

So.

The levels between 1 and 20 seem useless, and those between 21 and 40 are also useless based on the 15, 20, 25 gun damage range that is currently used. This makes a good incentive to go PK and all, but also turns deadly weapons even deadlier. I couldn't beat deagles when they took 6 hits, try it with 4? I guess this will grow on us, but being used to 140hp for over a year then dropping randomly kinda cramps your style. Yano?

Edit: Level 6 so claymores don't 1 hit you, lookout!

Even though this idea is neither unique nor impressive

Shards-Of-Fate 06-30-2010 06:44 PM

Reminds me of San Andreas. (I'd like to see more of that.)

Fulg0reSama 06-30-2010 06:48 PM

PKing now has a purpose? Good job chris.

papajchris 06-30-2010 07:03 PM

i don't know if i like this idea simply because having quests forces players to go to all corners of the map (including the sewers). Infact i feel like your dumbing down the process to get 140 hp because players are already going to be pking so as long as they do what they are doing, they will get 140 hp. Theres no exploration, no having to think, etc. Furthermore, whats to stop a group of friends from just killing each other over and over? is there a limit that doesn't give you credit for killing the same person in a row?

It's a good idea if you wanted to have achievements like un or maybe even have ranks that are based on kills. But that about it imo

Liberated 06-30-2010 07:06 PM

Maybe make the quests add 5 hp each, and make the other 20hp obtainable by PKing? People will go for those other 20 hp points.

Not really, the only point of PKing is to get more hp to have a better shot at PKing.

Crono 06-30-2010 08:19 PM

20,000 is too much...it also makes the strong even stronger with noobs standing even less of a chance as it becomes harder and harder to kill those with high HP. :3...interesting direction though compared to the annoying quests.

There's no advantage of having 140HP over 139HP, and the amount of kills to get from 139 - 140HP would be almost 2000.

I don't think there'd be any difference in the number of hits you could take with any gun between a player with 136HP and one with 140HP. To get from 136HP to 140HP, you'd need thousands of kills.

So really, the max amount of kills you need to be at par with the strongest players is not 20000, but thousands of kills less than 20000.

Crono 06-30-2010 08:45 PM

i mean the overall system makes the strong even stronger with noobs standing even less of a chance as it becomes harder and harder to kill those with high HP.

Seeya 06-30-2010 08:57 PM

Epic idea.

It's the exact same difference that has always existed on Era though; 100hp vs 140hp.
And that difference is only 2 hits with the strongest gun, 3 hits with the weakest.
A far cry different from UN where it takes a noob 26 hits to kill somebody who has max health, but only 2 hits for them to kill a noob.
Or Zodiac where it is impossible for a noob to kill anybody even 10 levels above them, and players that are even level 30 can get 1 hit killed.

fowlplay4 06-30-2010 09:07 PM

Hidden incentive to buy the +10 HP Upgrade, i c what u did there cbk.

The difference is that here on Era you now need to rely on killing other players to gain HP. The good players will stomp everyone else first and reach higher levels of HP while the baddies and not so good players are stuck trailing behind. This system initially gives the strong a bigger gap. The quests on Era gave some even ground (NPCs), it's not the same thing as this.

On UN and Zodiac your hp/power doesn't rely on killing other players, but NPCs.

What stops people from farming kills from trial accounts?

There are some protections that don't allow this and most problems like this. I won't elaborate.

swift 06-30-2010 09:45 PM

This is retarded. If you're gonna make health this way then all guns need to be lowered in damage.

I can die in 4 hits from a god damn desert eagle, Bombs from pyrotech now basically take out 80% of my health if I get lamed.

Everything needs to be lowered in damage if you're gonna do something like this. Like 20 damage guns to 15, and 15 damage guns to 10, and 25 damage guns to 20.

Bombs also need to be nerfed. It'll take me 20,000 kills to get full HP again where all damage used to be based off of. That's alittle bit less than double my kills @_@

Logababy 06-30-2010 11:38 PM

Nooooo! Then Era will turn into graal ghetto!

On classic servers like UN, the person getting a lot of kills will most likely have low AP, making them easier to kill.

But graal ghetto copied 95% of everything they had from era. So era would initially be copying itself. wat

Also, I think we should just go back to having 100hp.

DeCeaseD 07-01-2010 12:32 AM

This. ^ I mean, since when do people level up their health? *Gangsta: "Yo son, I just shot you.. 2 times in da head n you ain't dead?!", *Me: "Sorry man.. I just leveled up to 10, I have 110 health now, it takes an extra shot.".. >_<

Not the damage, just the speed of each gun...Guns need to be modified and made slower if Era's planning on sticking with this new hp feature. Dodging bullets will be a must in PKing if you're dead in about 4-5 shots.

slower :oo:? Any slower and you'll be able to outrun them...

edit: if you're talking about the fire-rate (not the bullet speed), then yeah, I agree.

Donark 07-01-2010 03:06 AM

Add the kills we already had :D

That is a fair point but tbh it depends on how effective the other systems are.
If the gang system works properly then ideally most people who get close to the 140 hp cap will be taken into gangs and spend most of their time fighting other gangs whose members will also be closer to the 140 hp cap.
Leaving players with lower hp to fight other lower hp players instead of getting stomped by the older players, who arguably would stomp them anyway regardless of hp.

In the end it's still only two hits, and soon you'll be able to buy a gralat potion to circumvent that anyway.

HE DOES! and so do I. But that's beside the point, I guess I like this idea? I dunno. It's a huge change from it being REALLY easy to have 140hp to where it will now take months to get there for most players.

salesman 07-01-2010 05:25 AM

I heard that the first person to reach 140HP gets a free MP5

I had 29k kills before this was implemented, thus was instantly at 140/100hp when logging in. Where's my MP5, dood??? lol

I think the thing most people have to realise though is the fact that with every system, there's going to be pros and cons and people are going to really take a kick at the cons for a while until something else comes along that they can kick at. I say give it a whirl.

xAndrewx 07-01-2010 08:07 AM

maybe should've waited for reset??

Tim_Rocks 07-01-2010 08:48 AM

I like this update, but i also hate it because it's hard for a lagger like myself to actually get kills.
