Diamond Shop

People have been mentioning quite a bit about how diamonds are losing worth, if are not practically worthless already (save the store resale value). To use up diamonds, and possibly increase their worth as a trading item, what about making a Diamond Shop?

Quite like the Event Shop, only with diamonds. For the moment, seeing as how EA/IWD's are rarer to find in shops, having those in the store (from a range of 25-100 diamonds, or something of the like) would get more in circulation, and allow EAing of armor to be a little more plausible again, particularly for new people (if the diamond price is decent). Since we use diamonds to prepare weapons, this could be a bit of a connection, and extension on that idea.

The shop would probably be a "higher-tier" one, much like the more expensive spell shop at the top of Tanarthia. But it would provide an alternative, and new use of diamonds. The shop could possibly be eventually extended to other, slightly rare-ish items, or could just be one for weapon/armor augmentation.

Thoughts?

Afterthought: Unless I've forgotten, i'm surprised there isn't a diamond shield, and likewise other pieces of equipment (although there is the sword). Perhaps it could be a new decent set that new players can craft? Stronger than say, Golden Plate? Yet lighter? Or to be bought at the Diamond Shop?

I can totally see where you're coming from, but giving players easier access to items like EAs and IWDs again would be completely backwards to the whole "fixing GK without a reset". You're not supposed to get EAs and IWDs easily.

What GK needs is a plat/diamond shop that sells special armor specifically made for that store and to be worth the price it's bought at.

The player-run economy and the huge amount of EAs and IWDs is why GK's economy sucks.

Alright, I see your point. But how much do you believe an EA/IWD should be worth? Say its 100 diamonds, thats 25,000 platinum using the 250 base. While not particularly hard for a player with DoPV to obtain, to EA one armor piece to +12 at that would be 300,000 platinum , or 1,200 diamonds. What do you think would be a reasonable price to get one armor piece to +12?

An armor store could be pretty cool, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of crafting a bit? Maybe some of the basic armors we have now could be sold: silver plate, golden plate, and possibly some starter boots and the like, and the better ones to be crafted?

Well, if you're trying to fix without a reset, and quite a few people have a lot of equipment +12 already, unless they trade it, it makes it much harder to the new player to obtain decent AC, and they probably couldn't afford to trade for the +12 equipment...

Perhaps they could implement a quest or two, to be able to +1 some of your equipment for low level players? That way at least there is access, and you can't over-abuse it to get god equipment.

Has it been changed? I haven't been on for a bit. Last I recall, diamonds were worth 250 platinum coins to the store, that's what I was basing it on.

They should be so hard to obtain that the seller can price them at whatever they want. +12 and a ton of slots are everything that's wrong with GK

Hmm, alright, say we go with that. How is melee supposed to compete with magic? Or do you recommend a complete revision? If so, what do you suggest?

Just as a thought, if IWDs are that hard to obtain, perhaps every phy level you get, or two, your damage should increase by 1? That way there is some point other than WC? (Sorry if this is already done, I can't particularly recall)

Well, few EAs would force a character to obtain "good" equipment, suited to their job, but in that case, equipment should reflect the character using it, ex. robes giving pow/magic bonuses, while low ac. Perhaps equipment should be trait-specific, or more trait-specific based. That wouldn't be all that bad actually. Then heavy armor would be for combatants, and light thieves couldn't take as much damage as them, so would focus on either ranged, or quick moves.. That's not bad at all actually.

I'm confused as to why +12 gear ruined the economy when there's people that never really had +12 gear and still made it through fine. I see EAing your gear moreso as a novelty to the wealthy then an economy ruiner..

The problem I mostly seen over the years is that there's all these diamonds and ECs in the economy and no way to really use them, why?

Because they weren't part of the pathetically lop-sided pk

Diamonds are ONLY worth ANYTHING due to the fact that players need them for preping. EA's didnt ruin the game..it just gave old players more to do. The thing I believe to have caused the economy crash was 2 reason. The first and biggest was the FACT that certain event masters would only give out EC's and GK's in order to buy them back for themselves. This caused certain players (with high power already) get even more power and money and items. The 2nd is DOPV. I love the alch myself and I use it (you have to nowadays) But this recipe gave players unlimited plat (which brought down the worth of dias)
I don't think the dia shop would do any good. In fact I think if DOPV gave *less* amounts of plat, and we LOWERED the drop rate of dia's and brut's it would fix some things.

EAs/IWDs let players keep pushing their "stats" higher. That is all the justification they need to be blamed for ruining the game.

Huh? Pushing your stats doesn't equal economy ruining. The fact that every good item is only givin threw events ruined the economy... Has nothing to do with EAs and IWDs...

It forced other people to make the same financial decisions to keep up with the higher average stats.

What do you think of the idea of a Diamond Shop Sky? You said yourself you didn't see why there was no use aside from prepping weapons for diamonds. Do you think a shop where you use them would be a decent outlet? I'm not saying put EAs or IWDs in there, but something?

Diamonds seem to me to be an item that is rare-ish (or should be) why not receive something for them? Like bartering? In case new players come on, and there is a diamond shop, instead of obtaining thousands of platinum, they could perhaps save up 20 diamonds from either of the HHs, or T-Rexs, and go and get something decent, to progress them. Perhaps a Ring of Fighting, or Combat? Or something that is almost the equivalent, but not quite? That way, RoFs, and RoCs, don't completely lose their value, (store-wise that is) and new players can get to a "decent" stage.

I'd like to see diamonds used more in crafting, i'd like to see more crafting altogether, since crafting takes time to collect materials, and thats really the initial fun of GK.. When you have two peices of a red dragon amulet fragment, you are INSPIRED to get one more to finish it.. this inspiration is what keeps us playing.

"Inspiration" on GK. Rofl.
Also, buying IWDs!
