Web/iPhone RC

Hey guys half of my life i am at school and can't use RC because of thier software restriction policy so I was wondering if anyone was up to making an iPhone app or a Web version of RC

Cubical 06-02-2010 06:40 AM

Kuji made one a while back I think.

iSlayer 06-02-2010 10:51 AM

Which one? Can I access it?

cbk1994 06-02-2010 11:12 AM

RC is not a chat room, so I see very little use for such an app.

No but it is a communication and information hub.

I used to leave my RC connected 24/7 so that when I got back from being away or sleeping I could just read what had happened, rather than relying on other people to tell me their own version of events.
Helped a lot when Houdini used to log on and **** with things and try to impose himself on the staff (e.g. firing and banning WarHead for something relatively minor).
After I showed him the log from RC that refuted his version of events Houdini tried to tell me that I wasn't allowed to leave my RC on while away anymore. He started logging on and disconnecting RCs just to see who would reconnect and who wouldn't.

Anyway, being able to give/get updates/orders while you're not at your computer would be handy for people that spend time away from the computer.

AIM nocaps

sssssssssss 06-02-2010 12:48 PM

You can look at logs once you get to a pc for almost any of the needed things to check.

Such thing has already been discussed here: http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...hp?t=134257590

Just because someone is a staff member doesn't always mean you will want to have them all on your buddy list.

make a graal-only AIM, that's what I did.

Then use a decent IM client like Pidgin which lets you sign in to multiple accounts.

Cubical 06-02-2010 11:09 PM

I'd still rather be able to access RC via phone whether it is a web chat or an application. Quite a few things could be handled that way and as I am always with a phone and not with a computer I could do things while sitting in a drive through or when just hanging out at a friends house. I think a web chat for RC is totally the way to go rather than making a new screen name just for graal. Some issues on servers cannot just be resolved over AIM as you might need to know exactly what is going on. Not only that but with more people being active on RC it might compel people to log on RC when they are at their PCs and do stuff just because there is people to 'chat' with on RC.

You guys may not think of RC chat as a chat room but I cannot think of a single server that this does not occur on.

Only the GIRC channels, and /npc chat. Something could definitely be rigged up using requesturl.

RC is definitely used as a chat room.

Nothing like hearing Tig and Storm chat on RC for hours about pokemon card tournaments and strategies.

teamviewer4computer + iphone teamviewer app?
how hard can it be? ;)

Cubical 06-03-2010 06:05 PM

I'd rather use RDP or VNC than teamviewer...

cbk1994 06-03-2010 11:51 PM

Kind of interesting. Works on mobiles of course. The approach I used isn't very reliable though and requires you to have a dedicated account always connected to the server.

Cubical 06-04-2010 12:10 AM

What are you using for that?

I mean did you make that in php and gscript?

PHP/JavaScript. No Gscript involved.

WhiteDragon 06-04-2010 04:48 AM

Looks nice. Consider using Web Sockets to do it all clientside, which wouldn't require a dedicated connection, at least I don't think it would (not sure how you are doing it). Although, using Web Sockets would limit you to Chromium and the latest Firefox nightlys.

Deas_Voice 06-04-2010 09:42 AM

i've heard about this before, but ive never seen it

but i like chris idea better, 'cus using a webapp seems like a smarter idea.

I've seen that as well. Cool, I think, but I can't imagine actually scripting or changing server options on a phone :p.

Cubical 06-04-2010 08:07 PM

Windows Mobile sucks anyways, only losers use it.

'excuse me, but Windows mobile is the first mobileOS on the market from the big companies, just cus applepie got a huge user-base doesn't mean they are the best, between, you even had a Windows phone??

Cubical 06-04-2010 08:29 PM

windows mobile compared to iphone and android is like an autistic kid with tennis rackets duct taped to his hands trying to win against serena williams

I had one for a week.. Then I traded it in for a G1 and I'll never go back.

SKJF91 06-05-2010 10:29 PM

Just bought the HTC Evo 4g by sprint -- they charge an extra 10$/m for a 4g network that doesn't exist in 90% of the us :/

Cubical 06-05-2010 10:48 PM

sprint blows

hows t-mobile?

Cubical 06-06-2010 12:08 AM

better prices, better reception, better 3g, better phones.
edit: also sprints 4g may have the ability to be faster than tmobiles 3g but it isn't

try living in a city with more than 25,000 people - tmobile is last on the list of quality service. verizon being the best followed by sprint. everyone i know with t-mobile says the service is absolutely terrible -- get a sprint phone before you try knocking it.

Cubical 06-06-2010 12:22 AM

Had sprint without a contract for 4 months. I live somewhat in the country and tmobiles reception rivals verizon. Pretty much all the other carriers drop calls sprint, ntelos and att are worthless here.

well in new york city - tmobile has no service what-so-ever... even in the city where i have full-service my friends don't get 2 or 3 bars out of 5.

Seeya 06-06-2010 04:16 AM

I have t-mobile, it's ****ing terrible reception in my own house, i have to walk around to get a connection. When i'm in my office downstairs i don't think i've ever had reception in my life, upstairs it's a battle.

Absolut_Crono 06-06-2010 10:24 PM

I'd like to see something developed too, seeing as how I could be on RC a lot more often while on the go. I always check facebook so it'd be natural to check RC. Also as an fyi, I have both Sprint and a Windows Mobile phone (HTC Touch Pro 2)

I guess you must really hate my phone @ Cubical.

Though I've never had any issues with it ;o
