Create desktop shortcuts to your favorite server
Only play one server? No need to bother going through login and such? Well, you can easily create an icon on your desktop to sign directly onto a server.
First, right click your desktop and click to create a new shortcut: http://i44.tinypic.com/14myhia.png Then, in the next window: http://i44.tinypic.com/11ghatv.png type in: graal://servername For example: graal://Era However, for servers with more than one word, you can either just include the first word(like "unholy" for unholy nation) or include the name in quotation marks. graal://"Unholy Nation" Click next, input the name of the shortcut(servername...?), and finish. When you're done, it should automatically assign the Graal icon to it like in the image: http://i44.tinypic.com/2nb8qye.png Then just to try it and make sure it works :) |
Cool and informative. Rep+

Really nice, i even decided to look for a icon generator, to give it a custom icon, not as ugly as the graal one. And pulled one of aeko's icons through it, the site i used didn't keep the transparency though

A quick google search should do. |
I've been doing this for years now, closest thing to having 'Favorite servers', i guess. ^^
|
Yeah I've been doing this as well because N-Pulse is the only server I usually hop on and don't wanna go through the log in screen every time I want to get on player.

srsly, it takes a few seconds to log on and type, what the rush? o_O |
Who cares? It's useful and saves time no matter how minuscule. Let's not turn this into a stupid OS debate.

Edit: To clarify I personally prefer using Linux over Windows but that is my personal preference and will never judge anyone for what operating system they use because it is ultimately their choice and I respect that. I also use Windows myself and have Windows 7 installed on my computer for gaming and some college work if Linux does not provide software needed for the tasks. I will end my statement here and will not mention anything about operating systems from here onward. |
Zenkou had a desktop icon to connect direct to there server an a gfx pic to but u had to get the gfx an ect off the rc
|
Is there a way to do this with opengl mode? I only use opengl mode on my own server sometimes for testing, so an icon specifically for this would be ideal!

I think you can just type: graal servername on linux to hop on that server directly
An addition to Dusty's method, this can be an issue if you have two clientversions (like v5+v6), then you could just do a shortcut to "path\to\graal5.exe" servername and "path\to\graal6.exe" servername The graal protocol use the same method if you look at the windows registry, except that it's tied to the last client you ran. :) |

Ah, wonderful! I could theoretically package Graal up in InstallShield and have an installation tailored for our server specifically.
|
Or you just do it the classic way and click 2 more times to log on ur Server or favorite Server. Damn lazy ppl !!

Its just useless really.
You click on Graal start it and click on ur Server 3 more steps. Ppl should not use every **** to make their life more comfortable. Just use the good old way. You guys are young =) |
Quote:
Also, never sit and make the presumption someone is young for such a trivial matter, it makes you look like the young one. |

Whatever I dont want to discuss about this. You think so I think so. Its still useless in my eyes. Then click 2-3 more times and Spend 1 minute of ur great life. Damn. |
Like I mentioned earlier, this is great for those playerworlds who want to package up the Graal client into their own installer. For example, if I am trying to pitch Valikorlia to roleplayers on other communities, I could link them to an executable I've created that would install Graal, a few of our most-used assets, and a shortcut on their desktop that would take them to Valikorlia directly.
I wouldn't want them to go off and play on one of those other fun servers, they may not come back to me :) |
Quote:
Either way, you completely fail to understand the concept of efficiency. |
I understand dont worry. But still useless =)
|
Im with dusty on this one. Making a shortcut to save some time isn't being lazy, Its being efficient. Why you want to waste time getting onto a server the extended way confuses me. Answer this please:
If you had a whole pile of equipment at the bottom of a building and you had the choice of taking the lift or using the stairs to move it all to the top knowing that after you finish you can relax at your leisure which way would you choose and would you call it being lazy or being efficient? |
Quote:
So Graal opening is so hard that you need to relax after it 2 hours? Omfg come dont post anything again in the forums pls. |
With the example I gave the time differences are different but the concept is exactly the same. Why expend time on something that doesn't need it when you could be playing a game instead.

I keep getting an era like...
graal//:Era application not found Any help? |
Quote:
|
"C:\Users\MyLoginName\Desktop\GRAAL 3\Graal.exe" "%0"
And this means? |
That it's looking for Graal.exe in the specified path. Edit it to match your Graal install location.
Edit: If you guys want to use the Graal.exe to create your server shortcuts directly, you have to include the protocol in the shortcut, making the shortcut location look like this: NPC Code:C:\path\to\Graal.exe graal://Server |
It takes me straight to the login server when I activate my shortcut to Era now.
