Mac RC Bugs and Suggestions

This thread is for reporting of glitches in the Mac RC, not the scripted in-game RC.

Glitches:
  • Keyboard shortcuts like "command + Q" and "command + W" don't work
  • Windows shortcuts work for cutting and pasting; command shortcuts don't.
  • None of the option-key shortcuts work ("alt"), such as "option + a" to apply the script.
  • Closing the main RC window quits RC completely.
  • Dragging a file in the file browser crashes RC; this can include resizing columns if the mouse happens to drag a file; moving files also doesn't work.
  • Uploading files into the file browser by dragging doesn't work
  • Syntax highlighting seems to be using another language.

Suggestions:
  • Add an icon to the menu bar (at the top of the screen) to display PMs, or display them as bubble notifications in the dock icon (similar to iChat).

Glad to see Mac has finally got an Remote Control Client but forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't it using the Linux Remote Control but adapted for use on Mac? If so they should have done this years ago. It seems the most likely solution to building the Remote Control for Mac.

The problem with most of these suggestions is that the RC has no Cocoa interfaces, it is literally the Linux RC compiled against gtk-osx. Some of these things are only really possible if Stefan is prepared to add some Cocoa code to the RC to support the menubar (which at the same time supports cmd key shortcuts) and Dock icon.

The Mac RC has been added to the downloads on the login server (click Start -> Install Packages -> Developer).

Modifications to the beta version:
- shows a pm icon on the dock icon similar to v6 (click on it doesn't open the PM though)
- disabled drag'n'drop to prevent crashes
- new GTK version although I'm not sure if that is improving things

We have updated the Mac RC: you can now double-click on files in the file browser to open them in the default viewer or editor.

Aha, about the crashes... Happens with me, take a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkGcCdgKsTQ, and btw i know about how to get to the Graal folder just ignore the first 30 sec of vid...

FateDog 12-15-2010 10:57 PM

It keeps crashing on me, and rarely finishes the download.

cbk1994 01-03-2011 01:35 AM

Keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work at all (both with control and command.)

Is anyone else having this problem? Would like to use the latest RC but can't for this reason.

Stefan?

Devil_Lord2 04-18-2011 03:31 AM

I don't know if this was mentioned or if it works on PC but it does not work on Mac, it says upload files(s). But you can only select one at a time.. "I can't see my RC right now because I am in PA again instead of MD so my IP has changed once again. I'll be back in MD on Wed.

Hopefully I can help and find other things..

Admins 04-18-2011 09:54 AM

You can use the * wildcard in the file name field.

cbk1994 07-22-2011 06:08 AM

Since upgrading to Lion, resizing RC windows now causes the entire RC to crash. Any chance you can fix this?

Deas_Voice 08-13-2011 11:28 PM

Can't use RC in OS x Lion, opens and closes a second after.
Unpacked the app and ran rc-bin in terminal, this is the results:
NPC Code:
######@MacBookAir:~/Library/Application Support/Graal/rc/Contents/MacOS$ ./RC-bin
dyld: Library not loaded: /Users/stef/gtk/inst/lib/libgtk-quartz-2.0.0.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/######/Library/Application Support/Graal/rc/Contents/MacOS/./RC-bin
Reason: image not found
Trace/BPT trap: 5

please don't hurt me for using a mac =3
it's not mine either, im borrowing it!

Admins 08-14-2011 01:12 AM

That library is normally included in the app package.

well, the lib is there, but it can't load it... maybe because it's trying to find the user stef?

Edit; Running the app outside of the folder where the client downloads it, makes it run perfectly fine. maybe this should be looked into.

Deas_Voice 08-26-2011 08:44 PM

thought i would make a small list of what needs to be fixed,
because i'm not sure how updated the first post in this thread is.

i also found a .graal/rc/ folder in my "home" (user?) folder containing pms made from RC and the control2config.txt file (should be moved to the Library/Application Support/Graal/rc/ folder (this is also where the RC zip ends up when you download it)

also the default font size is kinda tiny, there's room for a bigger font size (eg; Server: randomserver, Players: 0 and 'connected to NPC-Server')

Admins 01-23-2012 08:45 PM

Tip from Skyld: On Lion you can still resize windows by clicking on the upper-left corner (everything else crashes it because of incompatibility of the used GTK version).

Admins 02-01-2012 08:58 PM

Update: updated the Mac RC (actually only one line in the startup script) to correctly run from paths which contain spaces in the name.

Admins 02-09-2012 12:19 AM

Update: uploaded a new version of the RemoteControl for Mac which works on Lion. It doesn't crash on resizing anymore and the shortcuts are back (now uses Mac shortcuts like Cmd+C/V)

Works great, thanks Stefan :).

Also some feedback on the new Graal version for Mac? :)

The keyboard shortcuts all work except for undo and redo. They both still use control instead of command (ctrl+z and ctrl+shift+z), but they do at least work.

edit: also ctrl+f

Admins 02-12-2012 06:59 PM

The Mac RemoteControl has been released: now supports drag'n'drop between folders in the RC, and also drag'n'drop from Finder to RC for uploading files.

Deas_Voice 02-19-2012 05:03 AM

awesome ^_^;

Deas_Voice 03-02-2012 11:40 PM

Suggestion: make it possible to open more then one window of RC instances from the same app

bug: cmd+z is bound to ctrl+z
Edit: didn't see this:

i made this sort of possible by adding a '&' to the exec line (at the bottom) in rc file (open with textedit, or similar) in RC.app/Contents/MacOS/ and made a alias (shortcut) to it on the desktop

no need to make multiply rc app files :)

Deas_Voice 05-29-2012 08:15 PM

i was just wondering where the heck the PM's was stored because someone signed off just when i was about to open the PM he sent me.
i found them in "~/.graal/rc/pms/".

i don't like that location at all, as it should be in "~/Library/Application Support/Graal/" or even in the application itself, which would be "../Resources/pms/"

It shouldn't be stored in the application itself. The appropriate place would be in the same folder as the client (in Application Support).

I'm also having that issue. Also, I find the syntax highlighting to be off, some what annoying.

Tim_Rocks 08-13-2012 10:31 AM

Okay, So I figured out how to fix the syntax highlighting if anyone is interested.

So using finder, locate your RC and open up its contents. Then once you get to graalcolors.xml, just open it with any default text editor.

PHP Code:

~/Applications/RC.app/Contents/Resources/language-specs/graalcolors.xml

Then add the following line into graalcolors.xml, just make sure you keep it inside the style-scheme brackets.

PHP Code:

<style name="def:string" foreground="#C000C0" />

Enjoy (Strings was the only thing that bothered me, there's still a couple other fixes that could be done)!

Thank you! been so annoyed by this :)

will rep later (:

Edit: played around with it and added functions aswell.
PHP Code:

<style name="def:function" foreground="#32B3C1" />

however, if you just add that in, you'll have [], !, @, =, ==, etc also colored
so go into graal.lang and change the stylename of these, into whatever you like, i just added a "2" after function like such:
PHP Code:

<pattern-item _name="Operators" style="Function 2">
    <
regex>[-~^@/%|=+*!?&amp;&lt;&gt;]</regex>
</
pattern-item>

<
pattern-item _name="Array Operators" style="Function 2">
    <
regex>(\[|\])</regex>
</
pattern-item

Tim_Rocks 05-05-2013 11:01 PM

Stefan, if you could do me a solid later and update Mac RC with the patches posted before my post; that'd be great. Just downloaded RC to another one of my Mac and the syntax was off and I had forgotten how to fix it till I found this thread.

Thanks!

Can you post your graalcolors.xml file?

Why, too lazy to actually add it yourself? ;P
