A bug in Graal

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I found a critical bug with Graal v5. When I connect, there is no Classic server in the servers list. I can still connect to it by typing "classic" in the server name field, but it is largely underdeveloped and no one is playing.

I've attached a screenshot of this issue. It is always reproducable. Please resolve this as soon as possible as it renders the game virtually unplayable.

Thanks.

system:
MSI MS-1651 laptop
Arch Linux x86_64 (kernel 2.6.32.9)
Intel P8600 Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz 1066MHz FSB
4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM 800Mhz FSB
NVIDIA Geforce 9600M GT 512MB (driver 190.53)

Cubical 03-25-2010 02:53 AM

Classic is UC now.

fowlplay4 03-25-2010 02:56 AM

Your claim that it renders the game unplayable is rather..

Also, Classic iPhone =/= Classic

adam 03-25-2010 03:05 AM

Is this serious? It seems to be, but the postcount... makes me think otherwise.

Classic is Under Construction, hearsay is it has been like that a lot.

I think your issue is that you running on Arch Linux which temporarily allowed in the defective 196.75 NVIDIA drivers into their repos, and onto your computer, due to their rolling release system -- this resulted in your card overheating and resulting in Graal automatically blocking off access to Classic due to the large amount of GPU processing power required to play the latest version.

I'm sorry for this inconvenience but you may need to purchase a new NVIDIA card, possibly an array of NVIDIA tesla in order to be able to play the latest version of Graal Classic.

Have you tried updating your Graphics Driver?

Edit: Great minds with good ideas, planning and progress for Developing servers think alike. (WD beat me to it)

Looks like I have the same problem...
Give me a PM when the bug is fixed :D

I considered that this may have been the problem, but consulting my vast banks of quantum computing knowledge, I determined that the superposition of the state of Correction's card was bound to be interfered with by decoherence; however I traversed the states with a random walk in a quantum error-bounded time of O(sqrt(N)) relative to an oracle, coming to the resolution that the GPU was fried due to the bad driver release.

Hm well from my experience this bug began to occur right around the time we decided to wipe the server and begin building it from scratch, this resulted in us constructing an entirely new set of systems that were easy to work with rather than a hindrance, writing up a storyline basis and step by step Developmental approach, scripting of re-useable resources for both systems and actual content alike, the publication of these resources downloadable as a package in game to appear offline in the editor to in future encourage their use for such things as player houses and help tasks, creation of a new Sparring and Team Events system including the ability to participate in events such as CTF to contribute towards a Community based content foundation, production of Default weapon remakes and advances of them aswell as LTTPesque techniques, and more recently work towards a server intro to pave the way for the starter gameplay.

I wonder if this could be linked.

I don't understand what your edit has to do with anything in the thread.

I know I'm not a computer person, but is there any good reason whatsoever why this can't be developed in parallel with the old Classic still online?

Before Classic went down it was barely sustaining a player-count similar to how Valikorlia and N-Pulse are currently.

After much debate and drama, Bell decided to put the server into UC mode where it is worked on in hopes that when it's finally re-released that it will attain it's former glory. G2K1 is also in the same boat. Will they succeed? Only time will tell.

This was what I proposed before I had even become Manager, Master Storm had a Dev server but was not willing to commit to it at the time and then DarkCloud becoming involved in things really killed it off (planning and long-term was not his forte), by the time we wiped playercount had slumped to little more than nothing aswell, and keep in mind that it wasn't exactly hugely playable before beyond Events (assuming you're not talking about Old-Old Classic which I don't want to argue about).

The point was that it would be a step backwards that enables us to take atleast 2 steps forward, and I still believe we are on course, admittedly it's taking a while longer than initially hoped but considering both the timescale and execution that occured in the years after the introduction of the NPCserver i'd take what we have put together now as a Developer any day, and even if we were to have the privilege of another server being hosted for free (it's not something i'm willing to pay for) the distraction of maintaining the previous version of the server just isn't worth delaying the current server more.

This is partially true, we did not have to wipe the server, we infact had the option of keeping the server how it was and remaining on the Classic tab, Bells ultimatum was really that we put together a new plan.

I don't think you can really put Bomy Island and Classic in the same boat either,
both servers have 2 obvious things in common, one being past glory, and another being they are Under Construction, but we've been quite public regarding our intentions for Classic, what is being worked on -at the moment-, and gradually they have been fulfilled, on a handful of occasions we've had 10 - 20 players either playing CTF or using the new Spar, and such community based activity is something i'd like to encourage albeit on an organised basis in the mean time while the main content is being Developed.

Crono 03-25-2010 05:42 AM

difference is g2k1 is dead while classic is being improved so that it can go back up to the playerlist

"g2k1" or now known as bomy island is more of a complete remake of g2k1

Don't be such a needle**** about it. Just a harmless joke.

But so we can keep on topic here. Yeah Classic went UC due to certain circumstances I can't remember.

I apologize for being the only active adminstrator and scripter during my involvement with Classic, while the Managers became inactive aswell!
I do take the blame on not having enough hope to stick through it and not quit. Maybe then they wouldn't have immeadiately took the server off the list when I left in order to force the management to get their **** together(and active).

If you have that much blind rage towards me to blame me for Classic's demise, you should probably seek help about being so mad over someone on the internet.

We all know who killed Classic, and it wasn't either of us. Take a guess who, it isn't that hard.

I'm not trying to pin the blame of the servers demise on you, I was saying was that you had shot down the idea of re-developing the server from scratch, which you did (though Master Storm had aswell at the time).

Blind rage?,

kind of hard to have hope when in the end, i was tasked with the jobs of so many.
i had to have my team and myself make management decisions that wouldnt have otherwise have been made due to inactivity of the management and natural flaws of having dual managers.
i had to help bail a collapsing gc team, since thors raffle system had created more negative effects than positive.
and all the while, be the only active scripter on the server.

all i wanted to do was freelance script for classic and had been thrust into so much more.

edit: i blame the pwa tbh, put in, not just one, but two managers they know will be inactive ahead of time(thor had already announced his planned inactivity, and storm is storm), for a server that needed a lot of work...

lol the fall of GC was largely due to the lack of initiative on Night's part. He was undoubtedly a great GC Admin while he was active, but let's be honest here that he wasnt active during the last few months of his tenure, which kind of left the team in shambles.

Storm's inactivity was a very frustrating thing, but at the time of the management review, it really was far too late to save Classic.

all you wanted was to freelance script which is exactly why you nominated yourself for manager?

is that really how it happened? I think most people would disagree.

I'm far from neutral so I can't really compile a list of posts without spinning it to suit my own purposes, but I would have to imagine any outsider looking in at what happened in the Classic Forum and on the server itself would see that you:

1.) Were extremely interested in becoming manager.
2.) Somehow decided you were the people's huge favorite
3.) Took it personally when you didn't become manager.
4.) Began posting threads saying you were done with Classic, boo-hoo
5.) Were offered the position of Development Admin by Thor
6.) Released the Card Game or Bowling or something that lasted about 3 minutes
7.) Decided this breakthrough content was the best chance Classic had at revival
8.) Left upon failure of said content
9.) Went back to complaining about those who were "in charge" (you) weren't doing enough.

Sam 03-27-2010 08:30 PM

Moved it to Classic because it's a Classic related "bug". So the classic mods can take care of it ;)

I really wouldn't have cared as long as storm was gone, if you bother to recall, i had been very vocal about having storm removed for years. I've long recognized how his indecisiveness and inactivity was a cancer to the server.
None of the right people(Night, Bell), ever stepped up to the task of managing classic sooner :/.

It was a bit more than that but who cares, the only reason i was mad was because storm somehow survived this pwa investigation with his horrendous track record.

It wouldn't have worked anyway even had i not rushed it, it was designed for the playercount of 3 years ago, not today. Oh well, it was a personal feat for me to script it, I had fun doing it. The testers(Glad, Night, Mystic, Kai) got a kick out of it. Oh well.

MysticX2X 03-28-2010 03:41 AM

The card game was fun during testing. Me and Gladius used to play a ton of games together on nights. The reason it was not fun at the beginning is that not many had the chance to develop a deck with various level cards for strategy. It was one of the flaws of card system how booster distribution was thought out.
