Saving a tileset?

I know you can't save a tileset in paint, because when you go to the tile editor the tileset wont show up and it will be all black. Yet, I have Paint.net and I don't think thats works either from what I have tried. Are there any FREE programs that will allow me to save a tileset properly so I can use it in the offline tile editor?

Well, you can save as a png in mspaint and it will work in Graal, but for some silly reason the Level Editor needs a certain type of png, or a gif. I think it's 16bit pngs? I don't remember.

I think you can do it with Paint.Net if you select the 8-bit option when you save as png.

It will work online. However if you want to view it offline you will have to save the image as indexed or 8-bit mode.

Usually what I do is I have two versions: one version for online that is unoptimized(if I go over the 256 color limit, so my tileset doesn't end up getting compressed/messed up), and an optimized/8-bit offline version saved on my computer. I use the offline version for editing levels and such offline, while the online one is uploaded with all its colorful goodness.
