Lets do this Graalians

The time has come. We need a new classic server. And im the guy thats going to bring it to you.. Over my time i've worked on Atrius for over 6 years now. I saw that it attracted alot of players, but would never make it classic due to Era. Even though in my oponion Atrius was just as good.

Its time for me to and my colleagues to develop a new server thats going to attract players to Graal once again. I'm sure you have all heard this before but im going to do it. I've been playing graal since 2003 and havn't seen a really good server since then.

In your eyes, what server would you play, and do you think would attract newcommers? A modern server? A GK styled server? A zombie server? A military server?

We need to do something about our Graalonline community dieing, and honestly if you care, you'll work with me on achieving this goal of a new server. Graal is one of my favorite games, I dunno if I suffer from an addiction of it, or the fact that i've developed good friends off of it. Who knows, but I know its time to make a server that new kids will play, and us oldbies will be interested in playing. :p

Please share with me, what would generate the most source of players. With my scripting, leveling, graphic, and gani skills. I plan to achieve this goal. So please work with me, and let us come together for once, and actually agree on something.

I want to design that server, thats going to bring what once brought 200+ players in unison. And im the guy that can do this.

Clockwork 01-13-2010 08:54 AM

No you're not >:(

But, if you wanna try, Classical RPG with an Iphone port, play your person on the PC and Ipod. Something like Darkages from Nexon would be lovely! <3 Thx.

Imperialistic 01-13-2010 09:04 AM

Something like Babylon 8(

Stefan beat you to it by putting Classic iPhone into the Apple App Store. /achievement

Vima 01-13-2010 01:12 PM

... or you could help me on AEON. Look at me? I'm as passionate as you. I couldn't find the staff I needed - I started learning how to make images and how to gani, just so that I don't have to depend so much on other people.Anyways on we're very close on AEON now, Me & Deas are seriously working 3-5 hours per day to get it finished as fast as possible and I would love to have another NAT since I feel bad for pushing him so hard. We also need GFXs & Gani Makers. Don't want to ruin your thread, but I know you want to make a new server to "save Graal". I think you'd do a better job saving Graal by developing on the few server that has potential.

Besides, wasn't there a classic server who was on the Preview list not too many months ago? Don't remember the name. But I got impressed by it. Try to apply there?

Dnegel 01-13-2010 07:02 PM

IF someone make a server that's based on Miami city with beaches and such like in GTA:VC then I will start on Graal again.

Will never happen though. >_<

Soala 01-13-2010 07:15 PM

If anyone can afford paying again and is willing to revive Azure Skies then I can maybe finish it.

Imperialistic 01-13-2010 07:23 PM

Vima does have an excellent point, I'm not here to brag about Aeon, but Aeon is something different in unique.. The Modern half is nothing like anywhere else, and the classic half is sorta unique in its own way. It does have potential but uhh, not sure how its going to work out.

Strap on your boots. As for someone who said "I'd commit suicide" if Graal died, why wouldn't you want to see progress on Graal? ^^

As for Aeon, I didn't know you guys were still working on progress. I'll log on and check it out. I have alot of stuff that could be of use.

Crono 01-13-2010 07:44 PM

lol aeon is the opposite of "unique", nice to see vima still going strong on it though so whatever.

We dont really need a "new classic server" and this mentality of "LETS ALL GO DO OUR OWN MINI PROJECTS ^____^" is what got the server tab in the trouble it's in to begin with. In the old days people worked on the public servers, if they wanted to become staff they became staff there first and side projects second (unless they suck, then they would only work on side projects).

What kind of server do we need Crono?

UN is Classic
N-Pulse is soon to be RPG
Zodiac is RPG
Era is Modern
Val is RPG

What do we need Crono, more RPG servers?

by the way, val isn't really an RPG

Although the days of downloading mini quests and worlds/weapons to look at and use offline were sexy.

I don't object to someone making a playerworld, but based on the past few years you need to commit to keep trying for 1-5 years.

I think there is still a need for some NEW CONTENT that'll last. Iphone graal is irrelevant to current players as it's just rehashed content. If you can provide new content, please do.

Part of me thinks however you should look at every failed project for the last 5 years and spend a few months negotiating with those people to use their content then glue it all together in an understandable form, edit and add to it as necessary then take it from there.

There is a concern about starting with a blank piece of paper when WanDaMan for one is probably sitting on about 6-7 nearly complete overworlds. I know the levelling is usually the easiest to get going and complete, but I'd suggest not even making your own levels as most fail at the quest/scripting/graphics stage, so it's better to cut to the chase and start there to see whether it has potential, as there is no point if the whole part cannot be complete.

Dnegel 01-13-2010 08:39 PM

Val is a like LARP but in a game.

DustyPorViva 01-13-2010 08:46 PM

Val is a dress-up server and play pretend server :P

Hiro 01-13-2010 08:56 PM

i've been saying we need new content on graal since i came back to the forums, and the closest i got to making it happen was armageddon

i've lost much faith in graal's developers to actually make something. in fact, i'm about 99% done with any sort of development or in starting something up because i know that i'll be let down by developers

CharlieM 01-14-2010 03:29 AM

so basically we need a collaberation going
We have every kind of developer on these forums, most are at the top of their game.

Instead of making everyone staff lets make a server collaberation, just figure out an idea, level artists would make levels (Such as collabs have gone before each person selects a square and builds on it), It would all have to mesh of course, Scripters could make scripts on Test Bed and whatnot, Graphics artists could make graphics, Gani Artists could make ganis for the graphics...SFX can be made for the stuff...

It's really not that hard if everyone was to pitch in and do what they want, instead of having it as a job, it loses the fun when its a "job"

I believe 70% of these developers that can produce good work is busy doing other projects. Alot of the top notch scripters are pretty much busy with GDT, same with Graphic Artists.

I would love to help out, but I'm currently way too busy on N-Pulse to even think about another project.

great, lets start another new project that will never get completed and spread development even thinner than it is already.

so on and so forth.

Do ya catch my drift?

Clockwork 01-14-2010 04:54 AM

I'd gladly work on a new rpg if we worked together.

fowlplay4 01-14-2010 05:00 AM

It's a lot easier to do projects when there's you know..

A detailed project plan, and design.

Should be a requirement when asking for server development help.

Nataxo 01-14-2010 05:51 AM

Something new Classic-Tab worthy is enough for me to be honest, I can play any server.

Just do something and stay focused and motivated on it.

WhiteDragon 01-14-2010 06:55 AM

There have been multiple good UC start-ups, some taking old-school ideas from SNES; others coming out with new ideas, even amidst a number of genres being covered by the main servers.

When was the last time a server got on to the main server list? Not for awhile.

The problem isn't the ideas. Even the most simple ideas can be made into amazing games (and often better than the more complex ideas).

What is the problem?

There aren't many players. Therefore, not many developers either.

But looking at the roots of Graal, or any grassroots project, raw manpower isn't needed to succeed.

What is needed to succeed?
  • Teamwork. For as long as I've been here, the community has always been fighting against itself one way or another. Even within servers there is sometimes conflict. Ironically, we all share the same core goal of making Graal succeed.
  • Dedication. What kind of project succeeds when people aren't putting their sweat and tears into it? Far to often do people give up on servers with great potential.

** ~ The Happy Place ~ **

Thousands of players sparring, pking, shooting, questing, and playing with one another.

Developers working in absolute unison towards their unified visions.

Getting to the Happy Place
  • Cyberjouers, PWA: There need to be less servers. Please. I know this goes against Cyberjouer's business model. Stefan, Unixmad, fix it. Or at least let us help! Maybe fill us in sometimes!
  • Got ideas? There are already plenty of servers out there that could use them. Become the number one contributer of ideas to a server and you'll be remembered.
  • Developers: You're probably the most important people. Don't let your work go to waste; work on projects that will go places. Nothing is more exciting that seeing your work in the hands of hundreds of players.
  • Managers: Take the server's vision and make it true. Coordinate. Competition is healthy; anger isn't.
  • Players -- the newbies of today are the pros and developers of tomorrow.
  • Players -- Graal is only here because of us. We can make it better, too.

Those are just some quick thoughts, and it is certainly not "the solution" or some manifesto.

I'd like to hear what you guys think.

Zzzzz...Alright, this thread is going no-where...

I'll make an offer to see just how many people would really collaborate: I can subscribe for a server no problem and make it a server for us to collaborate on. It would of course be an RPG (sorry x3, I'd rather have an rpg if I'm paying for it ).I know the steps and plans to create a simple rpg to the point where it's a simple base for us to build upon. But I wanna know, knowing that we could start this tommorow, who would actually work on it.?

Tldr; Who would work on an RPG server with meh if I rent the server?

You and some others should all just work on Delteria Dev instead, to be honest. :)

Val is an RP server. It's not much of a "game" at all, the visuals are just aesthetics as everything is text based.

We still have yet to come to an agreement on what server would fit in the next classic spot.

Ney for Classic
Ney for Modern

Im thinking along the lines of a RPG server, sort of like Val, except with a hint of Graal Kingdoms, and a touch of something new.

You can rant all you want about starting a fabulous new amazing server -- but the problems I stated in my post are real.

I have serious doubts of starting a new server when in reality all it does is unnecessarily spread out the dwindling development talent we have.

James, I don't want to attack anyone, but it is starting to get on my nerves. You clearly have ideas like a number of other people in this thread.
You said multiple times you want to "save Graal". We both want to do that.
Starting a new server is fine, but only if it is absolutely going to have high quality and be completed.
But, grabbing a couple of "passing by developers" won't result in a strong end product.

Want to "save" Graal? Then work where it counts. Some players have been doing the right thing, which is why we are still here. I think we can do better.

TheJames 01-14-2010 08:07 PM

I agree with you 100%. Theres a big strew of talented developers out there, that are seperated working on different projects.

Although on the downside, there arnt as near as many developers that there once was, some time ago. I blame the price to rent a playerworld. It generates money for the game, why would they charge us? I understand that yes, if the price wasn't so high, we'd have double the amount of playerworlds we see in the UC list.

I feel that a person thats actually interested in a playerworld, and designing, should have to make up a description of this, and the accounts of who he has working with him. Or something along the lines of that.

I think Stefan should have a big say in what he would like to see. Along with the players. But then again.

Another topic that interludes with this, is the death of Graal. Why do you think its dieing; I know why. Look at the top servers, log on any of them, and try to obtain items as good as any of the older players. Its not going to happen. I dunno, but if that was me, i'd surely log off too.

So when this server is made, it has to have the stable economy that no server seems to have. I feel that'd attract the most amount of new and older players.

Stop being philosophical :/ It's always posts like this that kill off any hopeful outlook in these "threads". I don't want to "save" graal or work where it counts or do the right thing or read you're long post about how you think we should act.

I merely suggested that we start an rpg server and that I would host/manage/gfx on it. I asked who would work on it, and the question was almost completely ignored. Now, my dedication is detriment on the amount of help I would have, and obviously teamwork doesn't come together when everyone is simply trying to be the genius that knows all the answers ~.~...

Ty Cloven, you'd be a great addition, but apparently the only one.

@ whitedragon, I simply rather spend time leveling up/grinding/pk'ing based on stats, levels, spells and skills, than go bowling or spar.

The development community isn't that small, in fact they fill the majority of the forums, and I know quite a few whom don't even do anything. So don't assume you know the facts and numbers about how 1 server will "spread" the dev's to thin.
