Squad System Restructuring

I will be massively restructuring the squad system. If you would like to post suggestions please do so in this thread.

Deas_Voice 12-29-2009 03:07 AM

do we get to keep the guilds we have already?

Rufus 12-29-2009 03:07 AM

I wrote this idea out for Daniel before the Squads were released. It's not exactly detailed and could use some revising as I typed it out in RC. Bare in mind that I have never actually played Zone either.

Quote:

Let's say that each dropship only has one exit. Most of them have a couple of different exits, but there should only be one launch to planet selection. There should be another launch pad however. Why? Well, there will be a space ship that orbits the 'Zone' galaxy. The space ship belongs to the, well, for now lets say the squad council.

Every two weeks the ship will take dock in a random planet. Inside the ship will be features such as a squad leaderboard, ways of making squads, etc. The squad leaderboard does not include everyone's stats however. For the two weeks that the ship is docked onto the planet (and on the planet selection screen, is orbiting the planet) the stats for THAT PLANET will be used as the squad stats. The stats will depend on some very-complex-algorithym-I-have-no-idea-about, but it'll depend on the type of planet gameplay dynamics. That way, the squads are being judged on their ability to step up to the challenge.

The first Saturday of the first week will be a tourney dedicated to squads, and the winning squad will get a-hell-of-a-lot of points. This will be a reoccurring event, something to look forward to. The squad with the most points at the end of the week (Sunday) will get access to a special shop or something? Something like that was suggested on the forums. At the end of the two weeks, the ship moves on and docks/orbits another planet. The current leaderboard is reset, the overall leaderboard receives the points that the squads obtained, and the process starts over in a new planet.

My idea is trying to show skills of the players on various planets within their newly made social groups. It also includes squad-only events, tourneys, etc. Gets people using different planets. Every 2 weeks the planet changes, but every 1 week a big event will come up with the opportunity for major squad points.

I like the emphasis on "squad battle dynamics", as well as the prize shop suggestion - I'll keep those in mind.

I've considered some simple things so far. I'm quite confident the restructured system will allow squads to ban members, and for staff to ban players from any squad (discipline). I have a lot of other ideas floating around, but that is the flavour of my thoughts to this point.

Tenchry_P2P 12-29-2009 03:32 AM

a Monthly fee for upkeep to squad and maybe something you can put money into such as a squad safe for example incase you don't have enough money to keep the upkeep so other members can help out, and a system to allow you to buy more squad slots, more slots more upkeep cost. that'd give me something to play for.

eww.. no.

Tenchry_P2P 12-29-2009 03:37 AM

why no? it'd give me something to play for xD i play to hunt bounties right now and that's quite impossible to do, a monthly fee would make people play more to get money for the upkeep :O

hmm.. not a big fee then.
like ~1000 or ~500...
not a big fan of renting stuffs..

Tenchry_P2P 12-29-2009 03:41 AM

hey why'd you think i recommended the squad safe, so your squad members could pay input into your squad if you're low, like just ask em and you'll pay it next time or somit :O

Nataxo 12-29-2009 03:44 AM

Question: Can the leader give their leadership to someone else in the Squad?

I don't like :( though if there is it should be minimal...

Hmmmmm it is a good idea but have in mind that this can open the door to Zone trading, you'll be able to give money to anyone which is currently illegal @ zone.

EDIT: if you can't bring money out then its ooke :)

I like this idea, though if this happens the price of creating a Squad should decrease A LOT.

Tenchry_P2P 12-29-2009 03:46 AM

1k to make a squad aint much,

plus the money would only be for the squad like you put it in and when it auto takes money out for a fee it'll just take it from there, plus it would make it easier to take money from a safe than the player, like the leader puts in say 20k to keep the upkeep going and other squad members can just put some money into it if they want, but you can't take the money back out.

Stephen 12-29-2009 04:01 AM

I like the idea of squad slots. You will be able to transfer ownership within your squad, and I think there will be a rank hierarchy as well.

Tenchry_P2P 12-29-2009 04:01 AM

make a monthly fee i'm running out of options to play zone for..

Crono 12-29-2009 06:57 AM

Still waiting for Zone to remove it's p2p restrictions like it used to be. Subscriptions are merged anyway so unless it's to keep the lifetime classics out (lol hf with that) I dunno whats up.

on topic: i like rufus' idea, whats the size limit for squads?

RevolutionJS 12-30-2009 03:34 PM

Whats rufus' idea?
Sqaud slots should definelty be added, as example.
I got an Dutchies sqaud and a Dutchies II Sqaud, and they r both already full, but I cant play events with them both.

A leader should be able to see how many kills his members made in the past week and in the overall time of his membership.
And he should see more stats of his members like : a precentage of his zone time played On Sqaud tag, and more stats like that.

jkool666 12-30-2009 04:27 PM

First off, if you make Squads "Gold Only" then you may as well just delete them.

Secondly, you should only be able to join/lead ONE Squad. That was how I wanted this idea released when I thought it up.

Adds so much competition to the Squad creation. Some of my best Guild Times ever playing Zone was when there was two big guilds, Lost Souls and Hayashi(t). The leader of Hayashi made a rule, if you join Hayashi you can't be in any other guilds. From then on guild creation became much more of a competition and a lot more fun (until Stefan destroyed Guilds with the No Trial thing).

That would be quite nice, yes.

I think people will be able to join only one squad atm.

This is precisely my goal - make squads more exclusive, make them more competitive, and make them more social. It is the same structure as on classic when I first started playing; Archangels vs. Ventru Vampires. We all had a blast raiding bases, competing in the guild social hierarchy, and trying to keep our kills/death ratio high.

You can make squads have a system like Arena teams in WoW, where you queue up and if there's other squads online you face them, increasing your score, maybe make special weapons/armor/outfits for squad ratings. Then for the fact that there's a low population make it so that they can gain personal points towards their squad by accumulating points every succesful match on a planet based on how many kill/deaths you had. Like, the least you can get for your rating is 0 points a match, but the most you can get in a match is 5(per person) and the most you can get a day is 20(per person). In order to do that you need to have 5x the amount of kills to deaths. So say you have 20 deaths, you need to have 100 kills to equate to the 5 points you can get per match (until you reach 20 of course) the reset would be at a set time per day.

For squad battles, maybe make like 5 different arena areas that aren't huge but decent in size with obstacles for tactical maneuvering. Per squad battle the points you got from winning would be like every member you have left standing at the end x 10 + 100 points then divide it by half the difference in squad score. The losing team will be deducted the same amount of points. If the team with the lower score wins, they will gain a flat 100 + (number of players left x 10) score increase. If the team with the higher score loses they just lose however many points was the difference between the two. (so a team with 1000 loses to a team with 300 they lose 700 points (could be reworked might be a little imbalanced)) Unless they are the same score in which case the score recieved is just divided by 2. The max amount of players in a squad are 5, then there's a 3's team then there's a 2's team. 5 man squads will start with 500 points, 3 mans will start with 700 and 2's will start with 1000 points.

Example: So, Squad 1 has 500 score, Squad 2 has 450 score. Squad 1 wins with all remaining members alive, so they get 50 points + 100 which = 150 / 25. Which means that Squad 1 will wind up with 506 and the other team will end up with 444.

Example 2: So, Squad 1 has 435 and Squad 2 has 435. Squad 2 wins with 2 people left since both teams have the same score, Squad 2 will recieve 120 points / 2 which is a whopping 60 points. But say they play another match against them and Squad 1 wins 1 person left, Squad 1 has 435 and Squad 2 has 495. Squad 1 will recieve 110 bonus points straight up and the other team will lose 60.

For rewards you can have it so a person needs to have the Squad score and then a certain amount of money to purchase the weapons/clothing/etc. We can also say that in order for you to use the stuff you need to keep a squad score of the same or higher (but that could be a bit too much). I think it'd be fair if you just needed to get to the score in order to stay there. You could also work like WoW and introduce seasons where every 4 months the scores reset (you keep the stuff you had before) and new stuff comes out (this would keep people reapplying to get the best stuff every Squad season). Another idea is introducing armor to the game where they will keep your damage the same, maybe slow you down but you get a small reduction to damage (like resilence in WoW).

MiniOne 01-15-2010 10:57 AM

I like the idea but I would think arenas should have different game play. One with Team Deathmatch (Iricia Gameplay) One with Team survival (Guild wars except without the mechs etc) Make it interesting mix up the squads a bit, don't stack with all pros in one squad (that's to the community)

dude2020 08-01-2010 08:39 AM

How is the progress on the reconstruction of the system?

I'd like to see an unlimited number of players be able to join one squad. (Didn't read the entire thread if this suggestion has been made, sorry.)
