Indeed.

They are making people say really bad things in Dutch, I know craigus doesn't speak dutch himself but i told him what they said but he let them go.

You like players running around saying bad words and what not?

There's always a way around a curse filter

I actually laughed at this thread, honsetly.

Calm down there.

I was simply laughing at this thread because you didn't know how our retards act. It hasn't changed either.

bahamutstevetff 12-18-2009 10:39 PM

nothing worth than what goes on in real life.

This has been discussed to death. If a filter is clientside then those who want to curse can curse, and those who don't want to see it won't have to. It means people won't have to evade the filter, and people won't have to see cursing if they don't want to.

I think that changing the attitudes of the community is much more important (and perhaps more effective) than straight out censoring them.

There's a certain point where server staff have to step in and act. It's good to give players tools like ignore (for PMs and chat) and a clientside swear filter, but that doesn't mean players should be allowed to do whatever they want. Others have a right to not be harassed, for example, and shouldn't have to worry about blocking everyone on the server.

EDIT: And I agree with Rufus, censoring doesn't really change anything besides tensions. Unfortunately, changing a community's personality isn't very easy :p

DustyPorViva 12-18-2009 11:38 PM

I'm not disagreeing. Things shouldn't get too out of hand, and staff should have a degree of involvement in such a thing... but Elk's original post was very vague on the matter.

Very vague, the first thing that came to mind for me was "What's new? That it?:asleep:"

Targetting a new audiencem, getting rid of scum

Crono 12-19-2009 12:50 AM

It's not so bad. Zone doesn't really even have a community atm.

maximus_asinus 12-19-2009 01:16 AM

Dusty, thank you for reminding me of this. I will have to add that feature.

RevolutionJS 12-21-2009 01:33 PM

Kinda true I geuss?

seanthien 12-21-2009 05:56 PM

The foul language part can be moderated, as for the hate. It runs the server. This applies to both gold servers. Hate = competition = motive to play and excel.

Zone turned fruity when everyone started playing group hugs and ctrl+h to anyone that could demolish them. If you think of the past, when people have had fun, there are close to always 2 groups of players going at it.

Doesn't always work. I've recently lost a post to it as well.

The problem isn't the fact that they swear. The problem is some dont restrain themselves, and not swear where it is inappropriate to swear. In too many cases, also, the things said in game are horrible, and they know the punishment usually isnt severe, if at all (speaking about Graal as a whoile here).

I swear in real life, but I have enough respect and restraint to not swear where it is against the rules, or in inappropriate places both online, and in real life.
