New Player Frustration

I really didn't want to make a QQ thread. But i think this has to be brought to light.

I just started playing Zodiac. I logged on the server, have absolutely no idea of what i would see. I was plopped into the Unstick me area, given the choice of a class path to take and a sword.

I walk outside, and i am killed by a random player.

So im thinking. Okay, right outside the starting house, are a bunch of pkers, so i need to find another way around. I figured out there were caves connecting to the unstick me house and i found a way around the pker area outside the unstick me house.

I exit the cave, and another player kills me.

Even though i managed to kill liches to gain levels, i am no longer able to gain exp from them. And when i try to venture out to find stronger monsters, other players just kill me and i end up back at the unstick me area.

Plus, none of the monsters i killed dropped any items, or gold, or anything. So i am unable to buy any skills or new weapons. Its a disaster.

I really like the idea of the game, but from my perspective, playing it seems to be too much trouble to deal with.

I was the same way when I started playing. You pretty much have to sell items you get from monsters at weapons shops to get money for weapons.
The player pking is very annoying, I know. It took me forever to level up because of it, and I got killed so many times. I was determined though. :)

Zodiac is terrible, there is no way to success at the game unless you trade/sell.

I did. I got to a high level before I started selling/trading. It just takes a good while, and I had to ask a lot of questions to find stuff. I like Zodiac

liches sometimes drop bones, I sell them @ the general store for cash

Well what advice can you offer me, since i'm new and i really don't know how to level my character or anything for that matter. :p

Right now at the moment, I'm mining, though for what purpose is beyond me. I also decided i want to be a ranger, unfortunately i don't know how to obtain a bow.

Sell the mine rocks in the mine for money if I remember correctly, and sell things like bones and such that you collect killing stuff for money at weapons shops. I think you can get a bow, and weapons for your class in a house above the unstick me house, a little ways up.

Also, last I played, the FAQ staff were very helpful on Zodiac, at least they were with me.

The best solution to the annoying PK problem, in my opinion, is making the PK aspect of Zodiac optional. There's enough mindless entertainment in the dungeons, for some of us.

It is optional, If you don't want to PK, stay inside.

@OP- Do you have armor or anything? I will get on graal and give you some stuff if you want, I don't need it :S

Well aren't you in luck, I am working on a toggle so you can get newbie protection and enjoy a safe leveling experience up to 50!

Obviously there will be restrictions to prevent active toggling resulting in abuse of the system.

Until then consider taking a different route out of the main OSL.

Uh, you pretty much have to venture outside to get to the inside places that you have to go to....:\

I could see a benefit in having town areas as no-pk zones while different zones allow for PKing. Perhaps also provide a safe (but costly) way to travel between towns which allows you to avoid PKing. Thinking Mages Guild/Silt Strider in Morrowind =)

Ah thank you! I can't wait. :D

Also, anyone know where i can find an Aqueous Essence? I been sending out mass tells all night and still no luck on buying one or learning of its whereabouts.

Make friends asap, without them you will always be singled out and PKed. You should be killing crocs now, though. The server is poorly designed, if I see you on I'll give you some gold to buy skills and will probably have some newbie friendly weapons. :]

I don't like this, Graal's pk system has always been great because of how little it's restricted. It should be toggled for low levels, though, because unless you're level 60 and cmped you won't stand a chance.

Just like to add that im level 32 now and working on being an assassin (Ranger didnt work out too well. :P)

I'd like to give a big thanks to those who helped me and gave me advice on this thread and great big thanks to those who came in game and supported me!

Ty guys, its people like you that make this community one of the best ^^

We also have a wiki that is updated frequently which is helpful to some people, http://public.zodiacdev.com/
