What do you want to know?

Luda 09-29-2009 11:23 PM

What have you guys done so far?

I just logged on to see bushes grow back quickly, some weird nuke bomb with a crappy gani and arrows that bounce off when you shoot them at bushes.

James 09-29-2009 11:31 PM

omg bushes cant be picked up!

Not quite, the Custom Systems inwhich you can pick up bushes, hide under them, have your nickname hidden, throw them etc are not public yet,
only a couple of small things left now though.

But for the record, that took one night.

DustyPorViva 09-30-2009 12:32 AM

lol NPC bushes.

Geno 09-30-2009 11:24 AM

wtf noob bushes.

Gos_pira 09-30-2009 11:29 AM

Wouldn't having lots of npc's on screen cause massive lag? Isn't the regular bushes good enough?

Not with the custom HD which we apparently need.:asleep:

xnervNATx 10-01-2009 03:00 AM

post to know what is being made, next post tell how ****tty stuff that was made are, if ur not happy then y ask?

WhiteDragon 10-01-2009 03:36 AM

We are trying to make the systems flexible enough in order to use them for later development rather than rewriting code for every quest/level/event.

We are not trying to be dogmatic about it and perfect the systems -- just something that works well now and will hopefully work even better later.

this was not a concern 4 and a half years ago so I doubt it is a concern now.

alskdjfhg 10-01-2009 01:23 PM

Huh, I came to this thread to see if this server had any updates? None according got the posts I guess. :[

ff7chocoboknight 10-04-2009 08:21 AM

so do you think the Playerworld Administration will "allow" such history pass their inspection, hopefully less strict from 2 years ago.... What kind of updates does it take to upload levels that have already been created.... I mean everyone has the old levels..... What else besides transition from Old Graal to New Graal?

Basically the main issue regarding reuploading old content has been compatibility. The jump from GS1 to GS2 would be hard enough but Classic's management insisted on throwing multiple custom systems ontop of that so really conversion has been dubbed "more trouble than it's worth" (though you have to laugh at the fact that a full conversion would have been completed if management kept at it for all these years).

Then there is quality. Visually, the levels of Classic cannot hold a candle to those seen on other servers. Things have changed, the server might have been acceptable in 2004, but does not meet the standards of 2009. Though I don't entirely agree with that, it is what the management has insisted.

Yes, but like I said, having History has far more meaning then the quality they expect. The server many people grew to love wasn't because of quality, It had a meaning to a lot of people. It had meaning to me, when Graal 2001 came out, there were many reasons why I started playing on the Gold Server, but after a while, everyone except for newbie players went back to Classic. So their expectations may not change, but the fact of the matter is, it's not a playerworld. It was the beginning of Graal, it shouldn't have been removed in the first place.

Most of the people that the server holds meaning to are long gone by now. They were either initially drawn away when the game became P2P, or the ones that stuck around were repelled by the stagnation and failure that has existed for over half a decade.
Combined with how the state of the entire game and development community is now, there hasn't been any hope for the server beyond those who still cherish their positions on it.

I'd bet old quests could be converted in a couple days of work and the overworld could be done in large chunks of 'find and replace' on the old scripts. The old LAT team didn't hand code every little thing so there is no reason to convert everything one by one; there is a ton of overlap and copied scripts that could be converted once and found and replaced over the entire set of levels.

I like the old levels :(

Mass Text Replacer (MTR) is a software program that lets you search for a particular word or phrase and replace it with another one. The advantage of MTR is that it works over several files at the same time. In fact you have the option to choose the files you want to modify or just select entire directories. Mass Text Replacer will just look inside them, changing any occurences of your selected text with the one you wish to put instead. With the fast paced changes of today, webmasters especially will need to change entire sections of their pages constantly. Sometimes they will need to change hundreds or thousands of pages, and with Mass Text Replacer they can change them all in one go.The special features found in this software over similar programs is that MTR will allow users that have a lot of text work to do to be very quick in completing their work. The special features in this release are:* Users can select which files to search through and modify* Entire folders can be selected with a single click* Text to find and replace can be entire paragraphs or for example tables in a web page* Replacing the text in all the files is started just as easily with the click of a button

Who Should Use Mass Text Replacer Mass Text Replacer can be used by various people to complete different kinds of jobs. See the following list for examples:* Professional Writers — Modifications and errata can be changed easily over several documents.* Webmasters — Changing page layouts, affiliate adverts and content can be done in seconds instead of days.* Programmers — Changing a piece of code over a number of program source codes is just as easy.* Marketing Staff — It will be possible to modify brand names and special offers inside tried and tested adverts and sales pages.

It wasn't really P2P either that hurt Classic. It was more of the new servers. If It was just Graal 2001 and Graal Kingdoms, Classic would still have over a hundred players during the day. The fact of the matter is that when the new servers came out, there were quite a few people who went from Kingdoms and 2001 to places like Era and UN, I can't remember all the new servers that came out in that point of time. Then all the newbies were going to the servers with the most people. Still happens today. Theres usually over 500 people online, the top 3 servers are Era, UN, and Zodiac (What the hell is Zodiac?) I think the last time I played was 2007. Maybe early 2008.

Something like this was tried in the first place before the NPCserver was introduced, it wasn't close to successful.
