Playersprite
~AlphaFlame~
How bout making playersprite server side? Do you realize how dumb a dance looks to other players? You just spin around and around... wow. And how about weapons that make use of playersprite? "Hey, I just hit somebody so fast that I didn't even seem to move! w00t! I r king!" Player sprite NEEDS to be server side... unless Stefan is just trying to make us use ganis for the simple yet fun things and have us all with p2p servers... Stefan> CURSES! MY MASTER PLAN HAS BEEN REVEALED! |

Ok, let me simplify...
MAKE IT SO THAT OTHER PLAYERS CAN SEE YOUR SPRITE!! If you have a weapon that is... if (weaponfired){ playersprite=11; } which is the one where they hold out the sword, guess who sees it? Only you do.      |
I remember the Dance Cape on old Bravo. You looked stupid to other players. Spinning around...

*just thought of something* Honestly, who cares? After all, most *note the MOST* scripters don't use playersprite for anything useful. *cough* Maybe for like... a charging animation before using a putexplosion npc, but nothing more complex... Steeefaaan... why aren't player sprites serverside? Too laggy? Or did ganis just snip them out? |

as I understand it, ganis are better because everyone can see what you are doing and they don't lag...very much at least. |

I'm assuming any server, though I've never actually seen/scripted on a p2p server, so I'm not sure how playersprite works on them. And the day you make a gani with random player sprites... tell me will you? |
ahem, stefan wants us to convert to "YOUWILLBUYMYCRAPPYSERVERISM" and screwing NP2P servers is the best way to do that

No. Those stupid dances are worthless. Use ganis. |
you could acually make it random w/ a gani using clever params and such But why make it random? do normal people look like they are riding nothing in mid air while spining around then jumping up and down to do a dance? Lemme tell you if i did something liek taht on a dance floor i'd more then draw a crowd.

*sighs*
You know, dances add a little something called detail in a playerworld. Take bomies for example. If that's ALL there were on a playerworld, just how many would play? And, even though they use ganis, look at the hacky sacks. They're just as stupid as dances really. Anyway, I have actually made a random playersprite weapon... of course, it's "worthless" to Kaimetsu caus it doesn't do anything spectacular like transform the player into a dragon or anything, but at least it's something besides putexplosion all over the place. And besides... random playersprite groups can be nice in drunken effects... likesprites 1-13 and occasionally the sit one. Aaanyway... I didn't ask anything about the dances... that was an example... EXAMPLE! Besides, the only person I'm looking for to respond to this is Stefan... I know it's not the most important thing, but it's just something that might add a bit more flavoring to graal. And here's something I never thought I'd say... Kaimetsu, you're an idiot :megaeek: Honestly, great scripts may be good and grand and all, but if you don't add any small or minor details, then that's just as bad as having no scripts... after all, do you hear anyone still going around still totally amazed by bomies? |
Why make players dance? I mean, yeah, it fun to watch, but for people that actually take their PW seriously, crap like that would not be added. Instead, use ganis to make something that is of "minor detail" :/ You need to realize, that eventually, playersprites may be removed so the things you make should be compatible and easily adjustable should Graal's engine be changed.

Actually I thought the Moogle Dance from XOne was rather well done myself...:megaeek:
Kaimetsu... Viagra... Kaimetsu Viagra? What's that do? Make us all l33t scripters? :megaeek: :megaeek: :megaeek: |
Normally it should work, haven't heard bug reports
about it yet. May be this should be put in the bugs forum so that I see it next time I am working on the exe? |
