Quest Outline.... Review it!

Okay, I've been creating, scripting, and writing a relatively basic quest on and off for the last two weeks or so. In the end, I chopped it down to the following, which is more or less how it will come out in the end:

Author's Note: Keep in mind that this quest was scripted using the most basic variables and flags as possible. In other words, I'm not stupid, I'm lazy. ;)

The quest begins inside my "house." Nothing spectacular, just your average, solidly-designed, Classic playerhouse. Inside, order five shots from the mini-bar (a cook gives you the hint to do so) and you become "drunk." After a blacking-out sequence, you are warped, and wake up in a bed inside the servants quarters(though every time, the player lands on the bed instead of in it. Hmph.) The nurse tells you to get some Addvil ("What? No, that's not a typo. That's copyright evasion at its finest.") from Xythar's medicine closet, and sets the flag "xythardunnyopen" which allows access to the previously occupied bathroom.

Inside, you'll find the Addvil, which cures your hangover (fail to get the Addvil, and you steadily lose hearts, a la the lava caves) and a lever. Pull the lever and be warped to the dungeons, where Xythar announces his plans for Graal domination using his line of "s00p3r n00by" robots ("th3y r 1337!"). Defeat Xythar, a relatively simple mini-boss reminiscent of Ryven --- but with downs syndrome, and inferior scripting. Search his body for the key to the underground factory.

Go upstairs, and use the key on a previously locked door. Shut down the assembly line of s00p3r n00bys by hitting the switch, and witness my amazing usage of putexplosion. Then face s00p3r n00by, the final boss.

Actually, that's the only thing I'm having trouble with. I want him to be somewhat difficult, but also want him to resemble a n00b. It's impossible to do both. :p Listen to his dying words ("No! Don't PK me! Please, I'll give you 14 gelat if you please don't kill me!") The prize is undecided; but I've been messing around with the code for a "Cherry Bomb", a small bomb that explodes the second it hits the ground.

That's it, really. And thoughts, suggestions, rotten tomatoes to throw at my head? All are appreciated --- especially advice on how to handle the final boss. Right now, I'm thinking of having him just be very annoying, as in he runs out of the water, hits you, then jumps back in so he can't be hurt. :D Stuff like that. I'm hoping to finish it and submit it to Classic by school, or a little bit afterwards.

eh?

too lasy to read it

That was so stupid...You get drunk, wake up in some dungeon, hear a plan that some guy is taking over the world then save it by taking out the robot boss. -_-

Xythar 08-21-2001 01:32 AM

Of course!

I'm sorry, you're completely right. Instead, I'll make it like 99% of every other quest on Classic and just make the entire thing five rooms full of swamp soldiers. Would that be better?

Dont get smart, you asked for a review, I gave you what I thought of it.

Xythar 08-21-2001 01:38 AM

I know. I just wish you would have lied.

Do you even PLAY classic anymore?!? SHEESH!

Check out the Lizardon Quest or the Kraken Heart Quest.

Xythar 08-21-2001 01:47 AM

Kraken's Bird Quest was good, but far too short. Lizardon Temple is just a monotonous as ever, it just recieved a new lead-in.

Goddamn that thing is hard.

Oh, the heart quest? That received a spiffy update. Damn those fans. :)

Slaktmaster 08-21-2001 01:48 AM

Classic = Ownage on legs

Especially now that you only have 8 hearts at the maximum to attempt it with.

Xythar 08-21-2001 01:53 AM

But that's what the reconnect trick is for, silly. ;)

So you're saying that we should instead put in a cliched quest about you getting knocked out and hearing evil plans and stopping them?

Basically.

Xythar 08-21-2001 02:21 AM

Versus running through a passageway, getting shot by spiders for a weapon that has no real purpose? Yes. And really, it's nowhere near as bad as the Chaotica Quests.

Kaimetsu 08-21-2001 02:31 AM

Really, your quest is silly. It has no scale or majesty. Getting drunk? Finding completely non-hidden levers? Use your imagination.

Yeah, and suddenly appearing in a dungeon...

Xythar 08-21-2001 02:38 AM

But oh, I worked a whole hour on it! ;) And scripting all those variable (if playersays drink please....) was backbreaking labor. Oh, the agony.

I now hate you because you use playersays.

Xythar 08-21-2001 03:35 AM

No! It was an example! I'll use strequals from now on! Or something like that.
